I spoke to my team about this very subject and th concensus was that extrinsic motivation made up about 80-90% of their motivation; therefore intrinsic motivation only made up 10-20% of motivation. They said you can't take anything related to intrinsic motivation to the bank and as such it had far less value. I found this intriguing.
Interesting. You certainly can't take intrinsic motivation to the bank. I wonder what work your team members do: different roles seem to have a different balance. But, hour by hour, few people are thinking about their monthly paycheck - until reminded of it. Fascinating.
@@Onlinepmcourses I showed my team your comment and they said they could see where you're coming from. On the whole they said that their main focus is to do enough not to get fired and not much more. I asked if they found their jobs satisfying and interesting, to which they replied that was irrelevant as long as they got paid.
@@peterreed9566 I think that is pretty sad. But there are some jobs that do attract a more 'Theory X' style of person. But, frankly, it may reflect on your style of leadership.
