- You may have a problem to solve or you may be sued and do not have the means to hire counsel. If it is a criminal situation you can ask for a public defender to be appointed to help you. There are also ways to obtain an attorney for a minimal or no cost in a civil matter. Some of those ways are covered in this video.

Good information!! I just won my case with a Legal Aid attorney AND got some good advice from them for free on another situation that ended up saving me over $2,000.00 !! Now I'm looking into needing advice on Elder law regarding my father AND possibly looking for an attorney to represent me on a contingency basis in another situation.
It's crazy how many times most people need a lawyer in their life!!

@@lunagaia8723 yes, but not through the help of a professional. Went to my local law library, university law library, and local library. My issue was confirming my copyright and complete ownership of my intellectual property is secure through contracts made with temporary employees.

I have filed a pro se case in Oregon in the US Federal Court as I cannot afford an attorney. I've done most of the work and have just completed the Discovery stage but the REAL problem is, even with unequivocal evidence of false arrest, most lawyers simply won't take a case when the defendant is a City or County entity. Even if they agree with the merits of your case.
What has happened in your case? ( I am disgusted with justice in America...)
@@angelasaizapaschall6324 I'm amazed what has taken place with the Justice system. It has turned into a political arm. My case was dismissed with the defendants MSJ's. It's amazing. Any fool could see there are questions of material fact but the judge is too political to allow it to go forward. I have filed an appeal in the 9th circuit. They defendants have till the EOM to respond. Although rare to have a reversal, this case is a no-brainer and should undoubtedly be reversed and remanded.
I am in the same boat. It’s very hard going up against corruption! I’m living in a small town that the police discriminated against me because I am not from here. The Sheriff told people that I was on drugs at one point because I was trying to fight back. I was also falsely arrested for felony breaking and entering the house that my ex husband and I own. The charges were dismissed when I had it transferred to another county. I was forced to live in my truck for 9 months separated from my children who were forced into homelessness as well. It was the beginning of COVID and nothing was open and I could barely find food let alone fight back. Finally I was able to get the state police to override the local police and bring me home. All 3 of my sons became suicidal throughout this ordeal and someone tried to murder me while I lived in the truck. We are still trying to recover but are going to lose our home now anyway.
My point is, I have tried to get an attorney but no one wants to help
I am also ProSe. I have filed in federal court for ADA and GA. Open Records Act. The Defendant ( the city of Cumming Ga.) has refused to provide the records of my criminal case. I need help to stop a corrupted court, but no one cares.

Hi Dolores - so very sorry about your son. Depending upon the circumstances and your son's age etc there are wrongful death actions that can be filed in civil court. Those would often be taken on a contingency basis. Search on super lawyers and look for a personal injury attorney in your area. Best of luck!

A close friend's mother recently died. At the reading of the Will she was awarded 50 % of the estate (house valued at $160,000), since she lived there with her mother for over 15 years, overseeing her medical and housing needs up until her death. Her other siblings (7) were awared 1.8 % of the other 50 % of the estate. 4 of her sisters (all who own or rent other houses) have moved into the estate, trying to encourage her to sell. She does not want to sell and is not able to buy them out. Note: The original will provided by the deceased husband, left 50 % of the estate to his wife (her mother) and the other 50 % to be divided among his 8 children. (my friend included). Before her mother died she was also willed her mother's 50 %. What legal action can she take to get her 4 money-seeking sisters out of the house.

I said no to mediation but am being pressed and persuaded to do mediation instead for timesake.

Hi @HiddenGem Mediation is where the two sides go to try to make an agreement. It is not a substitute for court or arbitration where a third party determines how the matter is resolved. Mediation can be good if both parties are similarly motivated and will follow through on what they decide. If not though it is a delay tactic.

Is there a Federal Law School or clinic?
I have several issues that could be 1983 cases, like when the local police orchestrated a "Bomb Threat" at my business to gain warrantless entry to detain and search for drugs. They found no drugs.
That was just a drop in the bucket.
But I cannot find a lawyer that will take any cases in Illinois. Why is that?
I have tried all the lawyer search sites online.
I have spoken to a couple of lawyers, but they want thousands of dollars up front knowing their fees would be paid in a federal case.
I do not have a lot of money and the statute of limitations has run out on most of these cases.
But not all cases.
Fees are not automatically awarded and even if they are that does not mean that the party pays- so the fees for these types of cases would be yours to pay and maybe get reimbursed later.

I and my siblings have been abused for nearly 10 years by my step father from the time I was 8 to about 17, Physically and verbally. We had bruises on us all the time, until I had enough. I moved out and didn’t contact my mom or step dad for around 5 months and I didn’t go to their wedding last month either. Just the other day, October 4th, I was attacked by my step dad and my actual brother, for no apparent reason. Outside my job. They knocked me down and punched me in the face over 10 times. I had two black eyes, and blood pouring down my neck which was cut. I raced home and called 911 and went in an ambulance to the hospital. I am pressing charges on both. I’m just in shock right now still at the fact that my brother joined in on him. I will never forgive either of them and I never will for what they did. I’ve had enough because it wasn’t the first time I was attacked like that from my step dad. The most upsetting thing, my own mom chose him over me. She’s on that monsters side over her own son. She told me I deserved it.... I don’t even know what to do anymore but I never want to talk to her ever again for saying something like that. I don’t know who to call or even what to do. I have nobody. I told the cop I wanted to press charges and I wrote a statement and he told me I’d be getting a call from the attorney but I don’t even know when or what to say. I’m so overwhelmed right now.

I am doing well now thank you all so much. I don’t talk to any of them anymore and haven’t ever since that ugly night. I wasn’t able to press charges because they couldn’t prove it was them. So I chose to drop the whole thing and let it go. I have gotten a letter from my mom saying how she loves and misses me and apologized. But I can’t forgive her for that because that’s not the first time. She promised me he would never do it again back when I still lived with them 4 years ago. But I’m just miserable and depressed now. I don’t really have anyone but my closest friends. I just hope one day his karma comes for the things he has done and gotten away with.

Hey will you talk about City Judges: often the primary function of a city judge is revenue collection. I have been in traffic court situations where the judge openly said they're not there to consider constitutional issues, and if you don't like the ruling you can appeal it to the district court level where they do consider constitutional issues. Most judges are not that bold but you can tell this one was honest at least. Many city ordinances discriminate against the minority, or poor.

great info glad to know Iowa does not follow any of the court rules, IRCP, ECT. during a custody dispute I had 2 fabricated harassment charges my court appointed attorney talked to I'm assuming the prosecutor dealing with my cases, where another assistant county attorney, whom I despise beyond anything, requested to ACA protecting the he be able to offer a plea deal And here's his plea deal either plead guilty to both of the harassments because they didn't have a case whatsoever or he was going to withdraw my counsel this was two days prior to trial withdrawal my council so I wouldn't be represented by an attorney and have me thrown in prison for 5 years between 2 and 5 years, this is also the same county attorney who stated that because of my military service and training I'm a threat and menace to society I should be locked up in other key thrown away with no other criminal things on my record.

Hi Dennis. You can check property information at the courthouse and some is online. Once there is a contract the title insurance company agent will run the reports. The attorney yes would be used for the contract- especially if it is commercial property.

How do I go about finding some sort of legal aid or pro bono help in my situation? I've recently lost my job because of the pandemic. I don't qualify for unemployment. I have a wage theft case. My current home state is California. I'm relocating to Tennessee in a couple of weeks. Another former employer, a digital marketing agency in Florida, wrongfully terminated me without prior warning or a clear, specific reason after only 17 days of employment in July. It still owes me $2,000. I had a remote position in the agency. The agency has pulled off a scam in which companies exploit remote workers for free labor. In which state should I seek legal help? Should I ask an attorney to write a demand letter first because the HR/admin guy bullied me by telling me not to contact the agency ever again? Would a lawsuit or some sort of settlement work? What should I do, considering that this is an interstate case?

Hi @Nancee Sorry this happened. If there is a written agreement it usually says where the dispute will be brought and so go to that state. Otherwise it depends upon where the employer is located and where the work was performed. So you would contact counsel in one of those states. Good luck with your move!

Since it was a remote job, I performed my work in California. Everyone was required to get on a Zoom video call to simulate on-site work. The Florida office regularly showed up on camera as well. The company didn’t have a contract specifically for employees, but it had me sign an NDA and an NCA specifically stating that legal matters are to be settled in Florida.

My family has a pending Trust dispute case in Florida against a bad Trustee who stole everything. The person who was financing our lawsuit seems to have run out of money (after spending possibly around $300,000 so far). What are our options? We looked for a Trust litigation attorney who will take the case on contingency, but none of them will do that. It's such a difficult situation to be in. The decedent left his beneficiaries equal shares, but the bad Trustee stole everything at the last minute (through Undue Influence & Lack of Capacity of settlor's elderly, surviving spouse). What should be our next move here? Our attorney withdrew from the case recently and we're unable to find another one. Can you recommend a top (South Florida) Trust litigation attorney who will take the case on contingency?
HI T sorry to hear about this. First you need to do a cost/benefit analysis. Is the possible upside (after paying the first money back and now paying another attorney) worth continuing? If so there are companies that will finance litigation - that might be an option and another attorney in your area may be able to help with that option.
Hey thank you, I have 3 attorneys that I have good cause to file against for lack of or poor representation and I have depleted all funds on them. I was going to contact the Utah State Bar Association but I figured they would look into it and investigate it but I would like to file for damages and figured that the state bar would not do it. So I have not felt comfortable in contacting the state bar rather I wanted to contact a private attorney to file lawsuits against these three attorneys and then file complaints with the state bar to at least have them investigated and hopefully get a bad mark on their name. I feel confused on what way to handle this this. This was over a divorce even my divorce papers are completely messed up and make no sense that the judge drew up. He made a terrible mess of the wording them they make no sense like it says that my ex should pay me alimony and then in the middle of the papers it says that I pay him alimony and then at the end it says he pays me Alimony and I am Desperate for help. So it sounds to me like my best step is still to go to this Utah State bar first and or apply for legal aid right? I need a seasoned attorney my divorce was so messy that I really need a large firm or somebody who knows what they’re doing to take this on. I am definitely going to call the state bar and ask for a list of attorneys that handle pro bono cases that would be great if they have one but I’m not sure if they do in Utah. Hi @Amy Search for an attorney who specializes in divorce to help you fix your divorce- depending upon how long it has been there are ways to correct the mistakes. That person could then refer you to someone who can pursue recovery against the first attorneys or their insurance to compensate you and you can ask about any possible bar complaints.
@@FinelyRevealed Thank you so much for your response. I have ad several friends tell me tha one attorney won’t go against another attorney for. misrepresenting or giving poor legal advice. I am concerned to a degree that they are correct but I also disagree because you see some advertisement about often with car accidents not handled correctly etc. Do you feel it’s likely to find an attorney whom will go after another especially when there is proof due to things like temp support not being requested or filed for, or emails sent to an attorney within a time window to file requests, then to find out later the attorney didn’t do it and now the statue of limitations is up? Or is it about the same thing as trying to get one Dr. to say that another Dr. did something wrong? Do you feel that it’s a long cry to attempt going after attorneys legally when they clearly cost their client substantial loss?? I am in Utah there are a bunch of attorneys in this state I’d thin there’s gotta be a way to find one, I honestly just feel that the wrongs were significant enough that I am a fool t not try to do something about it, besides just going to the state bar.
@Amy there are attorneys who specialize in legal malpractice cases. You can find them through your local bar association or do a search for superlawyers in your area. Get all your materials organized by date and prepare a list of witnesses and their contact information if that applies. That will make it easy for an attorney to look it over and tell you if they think that something can be done or not.

Hi Uhama - cases are assigned when they are filed. Unless the court is extremely backed up (usually in cities) then it is not longer than a day or two. If you are the filing party - call and ask about the reason for the delay.
I was given willful wanton reckless driving for doing donuts in an open/empty mall parking lot. (Private property, mall was closed, and video evidence) an undercover detective pulled in the parking lot and put his lights on. I (instantly) stopped, shut the car off completely, and had my hands on the wheel. The detective then hopped out of the vehicle with his firearm drawn and told me to put my hands up. He then put me in cuffs for about an hour while running my information (a crystal clear record). Came back and gave me my court date for reckless driving. I have the entire encounter beginning to end on video, some are telling me to fight it because it's private property, and he drew a firearm with no means of being threatened. Some are telling me its justified because tire marks can be considered damage to property. Ive never been to court, I've never had a speeding ticket. Just very confused as to what is my best option, and nervous I could receive jail time.
HI @Kid there should be a place on the ticket that tells you what the code section they claim you violated was. Look on there and call the clerk of the court to get a copy of that law. If it is an infraction (violation of a municipal or town traffic law) then it is punishable by a mark on your driving record and a fine. If it is a misdemeanor it could be punishable by jail but not likely. You can make an appointment with the prosecutor to go in and work out a plea arrangement also or have an attorney do that for you. good luck!

HI G that is a big question- normally you would contact an attorney in the area that the matter concerns- for example contract for contracts, property for land or things, probate for estate matters and personal injury for slip and fall or worse. Law schools have clinics - that is another place to check.
I am hoping to not have to get an attorney, but things could get ugly fast and I may have to do so. I'm trying to research Washington state laws regarding tenants rights in regards to having a vehicle towed, specifically one that was just sold, but the owner can't pick it up till next week. Worried the landlord may try to have it towed anyway. Not enough time to research all this, it is about to be played out in less than an hour and a half from now. Just praying things will be okay. Hoping I won't need to call the police on this issue.
Hi @Sandra - not sure I understand the question but if there is some illegal parking issue or question about some vehicle being towed because it is considered 'abandoned' you can absolutely call the police to alert them to the situation- that the vehicle has been sold and is being picked up. That will help them not act on any other calls about it. Hope this helps.

If you have a case you want to file then you would look for someone who could take it on a contingency. If you have a case filed against you - check the videos on being judgment proof as that may help you.
Is it legal for a local police department to fine someone after 6 years since the case took place? It was a charge for curfew violation for my 14 year old son, who is now 21, I witnessed the judge dismissing the case because he never got into any trouble. The judge told him he was free to go and not to get into no more trouble, The judge never told my son and I that he had to do 10 hours of community service. Also a clerk at the police department stated that a minor can sign papers without a parent present. Is it lawful to have minors sign papers without the parent knowing? Had I known 6 years ago I would have took him to do the 10 hour community service.
HI @LovelyMarieL This sounds very unusual. Please find a criminal attorney in your area and talk with that person. Get copies of all the records. Something here does not sound right. Trust your instincts.

I was wondering , I was in rehab and the nurse stepped on my dentures they broke in 3 pieces they can’t be repaired. This happened 3 months ago, I’m not getting answers from them, they are not communicating.

Hi @Cindy sorry that happened - Make sure you escalate your claim to the management and not just the workers. Send a copy of the written report you made to the supervisor over the nurse up to the facility manager or owner with pictures and all the information. Also check your renters/homeowners insurance as it may be covered there. While you will have to repay them if you recover from the facility at least you will have teeth! Reach out to the people you owe on them and give them the information. If you can't do this on your own contact legal aid in your community.

I have questions i got hurt from the job as deliver..i falls and slipped..and my toenails got bleeding really bad. So the owner of the restaurant came and help to clean my toenail . Almost 2 month there insurance ( restaurant) told me they cant help me..the restaurant is responsible for that, when i asked the restaurant owner she keeps saying that she already reported to her insurance..last week Friday, Feb 9, 2024.i told the insurance i will go and file a law sue for keep playing their game on me, with out helping me all my bills behind because i was out of work because im still on treatment, the stair was broken thats what i got falls.. So I asked insurance if your property safety i won't be suffered with pain..
At the same day when i told her i will sue them, finally she send a form to my email to sign and send it back..i did not sign will ask any lawyers what i suppose to do? Please can someone help me..Thank you!

Teh 20-year old law school students can't help in a torture situation with complex trauma, High sensitivity and Aspergers. I haven't got to file a police report for 15 years. how does one apply for damages? i am too isolated, broken down by them all and haven't had healthcare for many years, they have neglected me and that is why I need personal assistence for communication/Aspergers, and maybe a Power of Attorney. CAn I just tell the false guardian that:

Can a company sue you for a UA-cam review? I did my review on their product and services provided from my experience point of view. Every time their sponsored ad come on my page and O see someone ask if the product works. I state not for me and here’s a link to my review. The company came on my channel and threaten to sue me along with other crazy wordings but before I could screenshot their messages, they deleted their comments. However, i have bits and pieces of their messages in my notifications. Trying to see if I need to get a lawyer just in case they try!

I have a case of prosecutorial misconduct. In my case the prosecutor refused to file a trespass on my behalf against my neighbor/council member was applying toxic chemicals on my private property. My neighbor's intent was to cause serious injury, he was successful. The prosecuting attorney had a conflict of interest to the degree that he was filing charges against me based on fabricated laws. The motive for my neighbor to poison me was because he purchased the non conforming lot adjoining mine from the Mayor. He was issued fraudulent building permits by the City. He illegally redeveloped his lot with no regard to State building code or drainage laws. State law has strict laws when redeveloping con conforming lots. State law requires any non conforming lot can only have new structures with a footprint no larger than the existing buildings. In this case a small double wide mobile home and a single car wood frame garage. This neighbor fill the entire lot with structures. He diverted all the storm water runoff onto my property causing uncontrollable flooding in violation of State drainage laws. When he completed his redevelopment he discovered the redevelopment was going to be denied being recorded on the County plat map. It was at this time, they (local officials) determined his remedy was to eliminate me from my property so he could acquire it. With the addition of my property he would not be considered a non conforming property. He used glyphosate to poison me. The first year he applied it on my side of our 300' common boundary. I began to have a rash on my shins immediately. I told him not to apply or come on my property again. I requested an incident report from the Police chief. It took the Police chief 16 months to give me the report. By that time my entire body was suffering from a severe skin condition. I was denied a trespass against this terrorist. I was denied any protection of he law. I was forced to flee after more than five years of being exposed in an attempt to save my life. I could not stop him and they would not stop him. Homeless and blind with none of my investment from my business I operated from that location. I have never been convicted of a crime. I have all the evidence proving my case of conspiracy against rights, deprivation of right under color of law and torture. How can a prosecutor deny a citizen their private property rights? I will suffer everyday for the rest of my life from the intentional exposure.

Hi Vince. Only when giving evidence are people put under oath. If you are acting as your own counsel and just making an argument- there is no 'swearing in'. Each hearing has a stated purpose and only those matters are able to be discussed. If this matter is important to you it would benefit you to get an attorney to help.
My father died he was a long haul truck driver, his company hasn’t sent his belongings home nor have they given my sister and I (beneficiaries) a cashable final pay, they also kept a title to a truck (>100,000) he paid in full. We are in Oregon and as per contract we have to go to Colorado. Any advice my sister and I are both in our 20s and still working on our careers so financially it is impossible

Organize the information and have the relatives names etc- any will he left- the location and make,model etc of the truck, his debts if any and the employer and truck details. Do not delay. @@FinelyRevealed all of his monies or “estate” in this case was invested. He died without a will. Our main issue is that his company is now claiming they have none of his belongings. We also believe they violated his contract when he was still alive. We have reached out to a probate attorney here in our area but because my father had no real value possessions he claimed there’s not much we can due. In short do my sister and I have the means to file suit against them? They at one point refused to give my father a title to a truck he payed in full due to a lawsuit out of Colorado. However, even though we requested the information on this suit no details were given. It has to due with there internal financial system operation but his contract clearly states he was not an “employee” of this company but was penalized for there errors.

Find an attorney in the place where the case is filed and pay to consult with for 30 minutes. Get info on the procedure and whether you can do this yourself. How much will the attorney charge to handle it- could you get fees awarded if you win. Do the most economical thing for you.
How long has it been since there's been justice in USA. My friend reported a sexual assault because he accidentally witnessed it and felt it was the right thing to do. They realized they couldn't convict (my own informed most probable conclusion) the guy who did it so they are charging the one who reported it. Obviously no evidence but we are curious why they would even try if they are aware there will be no evidence. Yep, no lawyers will touch it. He (possibly) gets to spend his life labeled as a sexual offender without evidence because he reported a crime. One of the attorneys who empathized but wouldnt represent him told us of a guy in another state got on the list for holding his daughters hand in public based on an anonymous report. There used to at least be due process.
Question if anyone knows the answer. If a person is charged and put on probation, isnt the public defender supposed to continue being the attorney for said person?

They get busy - and depending on what the case is about they may or may not know what could help. If there is a county nearby that has less people reach out to their legal aid and see if they can assist you.
