Hey Phil, I still remember my first Sampler back in 91’, It was a Single Sample box that allowed to you to record up to 8 secs..
Used that for years and I still have it somewhere,,
I also had a Roland DJ 70,, I used to use that a bit when I worked at a local radio station..
Then around 10 years ago I picked up a SoundBite sampler,, that was great for sampling loops whilst I was still spinning Vinyl..
Now that I use the Rane One with Algoriddim Djay Pro, I find that I don’t use the Sampler section much on it..

how do you record a sample in Serrato from the current playing track (or from the cue) for improvisation in live performance?
Thanks for also this great episode and it was good to learn in a previous Q&A that standalones (which I'm considering but might just wait till the right one for me comes along) don't have a sampler, which I do use. So the build in serato sampler is fine (with an sx2) but it looks like I might have to 'dust off' the old sp-404 in time for use with a standalone. I (naively) hoped that standalones would finally be an all-in-one solution for me but 'for now' it looks like the extra bit of gear is inevitable because I don't like to use the phone solution (Koala is a nice app though so thanks for that recommendation and to the person who recommended it on your website). But who knows, maybe a sampler will/could be added to future standalone products as manufacturers tend to eventually listen to the user community and it could be a usp for the one who manages to get it in first.. interesting.. Always nice to read the questions and useful input from your viewers so thanks again (everyone).

hi phil, quick question. Im upgrading from my ddj sb3, as i am becoming more and more skilled with the art of djing and mainly use searato. I wanted to upgrade to the ddj sr2, but there isnt any in stock anywhere and my current controller is showing signs of failing on me and i have gigs. I have seen an ddj sx2 on sale and was wondering in todays age if its worth me purchasing. ( Perfectly new).
I would say, yes! It's a great controller and nothing about it is "out of date".

FYI: The Mixstream Pros allow you to trigger samples from serato and virtual DJ from the pads. I like this unit.

They are Pioneer DJ DDJ-CUE1, and the company sells different coloured leads and ear pads so you can switch them out, which is what we did.
Would you recommend the Serato sample packs?

Could you explain the easiest way to setup the Roland sp404 with the prime 4 in standalone function?
Not sure exactly what you're asking. Plug it in to one of the channels on that back and switch to it would be our method.
I got the prime 4 and haven’t seen anyone using samplers have you managed to set one up ?
@@chilledsleep4559 it’s possible with the mpc one/live and Ableton link via Ethernet, but you have to keep sync on, on the decks. And the mpc had too many issues for my liking.
So I’m SOL until stand-alone somehow get a magical MPU upgrade to handle a sample mode.
Prime 4 updated already few years back and it got sampler these days

@@digitaldjtips I loved learning more about samplers and sampling on here, I wasn't really up to date with this at all to be honest :D but strikes me is that you talk about auxilliary today, howcome these pro samplers don't use midi to communicate with the dj software? I read here about the pioneer and traktor ones, do these use midi? Because frankly, if you need to do the work for this during your live set I can imagine being able to sync your samples to the bpm of your set would be useful... Do you know of any affordable samplers that use midi and could work together with Serato?
@@killingtomat the DJS-1000 can SYNC to an active PRO LINK network like any Pioneer DJ PRO LINK-capable device (xdj-1000mk2, cdj-3000, etc. ). but since PRO LINK only works for devices in EXPORT mode (eg. CDJ-2000nxs with a RB-prepared USB), this feature would not be available in Rekordbox Performance mode. the DJS-1000 also can send and/or receive Midi time clock (USB and/or 5 pin din) so if your DJ software can send/receive Midi clock, the DJS can sync to it or act as the Master. there's no native support for Ableton Link within the DJS-1000, but if you are using a computer to DJ, there's some free, super basic solutions for translating Midi into Ableton Link. as mentioned by @Digital DJ Tips , the DJS-1000 isn't cheap ($1200 retail though you can usually find a used one for 800ish...though two years ago they went as low as $400) but if you tend to use Pioneer DJ PRO LINK gear, the DJS-1000 opens up some serious possibilities. but i wouldn't ignore the plethora of excellent choices brought up in this video either - each is a perfect fit for some set of DJs and worth exploring.
@@djmattpositive So this DJ pro link, it only works on seperates I imagine,... it would not work for example with a pioneer ddj-sz controller and serato laptop? or can it link directly to the laptop and sync in serato directly, like a serato accesory?
