In 1980 we lost two members of The Little Rascals, the Master of Suspense, some great comedians, talented musician and so many others, May they all rest in peace with the angels.
As I watch these In Memoriam videos from the 60's and 70's it is striking how many of the men died from heart attacks in their 40's 50's and early 60's. Another sizeable number died from lung cancer or emphysema - a testament to how many people smoked back then.
RIP Dave Johnston, Volcanologist 39 years old. Perished in the Mount Saint Helens eruption. May 18, 1980.
Charles Miller...sax player for the band "War" stabbed to death in LA and to this day nobody arrested or prosecuted...that's sad.

I didn't know David Janssen and Peter Sellers died so young. The Pink Panther is one of my favorites .
Steve McQueen also died young at age 50.

Hey Jude was written by Paul for Julian during his parent’s divorce.
I was going to point that out too. They're both credited on all the songs they wrote but all Beatles fans know Paul wrote that one.

I always thought it, was about heroin. 'Jude', in German, means heroin.
@@rogerrendzak8055 No, it was never about heroin. Paul initially called it Hey Jules (Julian's nickname) but changed it to Jude because that sounded better. It was always a song written for Julian. Besides, John was the one who did heroin, not Paul.

I was hoping to see Harry Truman on here as well, Harry Truman 1896- May 18 1980 . He lived life on his terms. Gone but never forgotten.
I remember seeing him (Old dudesky Harry Truman) on the news and he said he was not not leaving his cabin below Mt. St. Helens. RIP.

I remember seeing him on TV as well just before the eruption.
The day Peter Sellars died, he was going to have dinner with Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe that evening. His son also died of heart failure aged in his early fifties.
Ian Curtis, lead singer of Joy Division - May 18, 1980 (age 23) (suicide)
Curtis had epilepsy and depression and died by suicide on the eve of Joy Division's first North American tour, shortly before the release of Closer. Shortly after his death, the three surviving members of the band renamed themselves New Order.

The day after my bd....after I was told about it... we had the old ruters news on...there were alot of broken things in my apt ....including the phone on the wall😭😭😭😭...then 2 learn that he had targeted Paul....but John was more accessible....I would've found that pig.. insanity does weird things....I was ballistic w John's death....I still don't want the day 2 ever come when Paul is gone😭😭😭😭✌️✌️

Minor correction: the photo you have of Douglas Kenney is actually Will Forte, from a 2018 movie about National Lampoon (A Futile and Stupid Gesture).

My Late Dad had Passed Away February 27 1980 i miss him too this day i just 13 years old i still cry about this
I've seen Bobby Van on reruns of the Match Game. His widow, Elaine Joyce, is still with us.
Bobby also hosted a short-lived game show for Goodson/Todman and ABC, "Showoffs".
At the time of his death, he had completed his second season gig on "Make Me Laugh" which ceased production afterwards because producer George Foster refused to replace him.

Also not listed is Jack Bailey, best known as host of the game show "Queen for a Day". He died on February 1, 1980.

George Tobias had a few guest appearances on The Waltons in the early seasons. He played a collector and a peddler. Most of his scenes were with Judy Norton(Mary Ellen). Enjoyed his relaxed humor on Bewitched opposite a hyperactive Gladys Kravitz.
I always thought he was a very handsome man back when he was younger.
We lost 2 Little Rascals in one year: Farina and Buckwheat 😪

Bon Scott was an icon ….however he had nothing to do with back in black …..was already gone and that was Brian Johnson’s first album as the new lead singer ….
Yes he did he wrote most of the lyrics it's so obvious because nothing was near as good after that.

My dad died in 1980, and I wouldn't have been able to recall the passing of anyone else that year if you held a gun to my head. Looking at this now, I would have been familiar with all of these people or their work.

I saw the Marshal Tucker Band with the full original lineup to include Tommy Caldwell. Just an amazing concert from an amazing band. I saw them again just months after Tommy Caldwell was killed in a car wreck. Painful to watch as the band was obviously still out of sorts. RIP Tommy (and Toy) Caldwell.
Paul McCartney wrote Hey Jude about John Lennon's son Julian.
John Lennon ignored his Julian after he married Yoko Ono.

It’s insane that no one was ever been prosecuted for Charles Miller’s murder and it has been over 40 years.

1980 I was discharged from the Navy from Miramar NAS. I was 20 and had already been in 7 countrys and 4 ocean's. Great memories for sure.

Bon Scott's death devestated Ozzy Osbourne to the point where he, too, wanted to kill himself by heavy drug use and whatever it took him to do so. Luckily, he got out of it long enough to write a song called "Crazy Train" and started his own hard rock band called Ozzy Osbourne and has never looked back since despite the next array of tradegies that would happen in the future. At 75, he's still alive and is not done yet.
Another fine effort, with John Lennon securing the spotlight. Just note that Gower Champion provided the direction of ALL the shows mentioned in his memorial and not just the choreography. Give full credit where credit is due.

Larry Williams also passed in early 1980. The Beatles covered three of his songs, all sung by John Lennon. And we unfortunately all know what happened to John later that year.
Pretty sure "Hey Jude" was all Paul McCartney in terms of writing the song.
John's contribution was to tell Paul it was finished, as Paul had written the dummy lyric.... " the movement you need is on your shoulder"

I was in the 8th grade when the news broke of John Lennon's killing. I knew who he was and how famous he was from The Beatles and his own solo music. Very tragic.

Bon Scott passed before back in back was recorded. There's always been rumors that his notes were pilfered by the young brothers but they insisted that Bon wasn't involved in B.I.B in any way

Mexico for a special operation and that made things that much worse. A doctor told Steve he could cure cancer didn't quite work out guy was a quack. The doctor was an American doctor from what I understand. Take care.

Steve McQueen did not die from heart failure.
His heart failed due to radical surgery to remove cancerous tumors . Mesothelioma was the cancer and it's caused by asbestos exposure.

I was born in 1980 in June and they all died when I was a baby especially being 6 months old when John Lennon was murdered.
Before he died Colonel Sanders said KFC quality had gone down. He is right. The chicken is not as spicy as it was and neither is the now watery gravy.
