2:16 Eddie "Rochester:" Andserson - if there was ever a (gravelly) voice that needed to be heard here it was his "Hey boss...(Jack Benny)?!"
Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby, Charlie Chaplan and Groucho Marx.....we lost some truly legendary entertainers in 1977.
Elvis Presley death is still being feeling felt today Long Live the King 😔
We're hearing less and less over the past few years of Elvis not being dead. Never been proven. Saw him the other day at Denny's, etc
Well, that's a stretch. At best he sang some nice early rock and roll songs and shaped the modern rise of popular music performance. But otherwise singing a few songs did not benefited one person in any tangible manner, did not relieve one person of the pain of cancer, extended one person's life from debilitating disease, did not advance human knowledge in science or industry, did not advance peace of international understanding.
I really appreciated the honorable mention of the passing of Marc Bolan, who was the Frontman of the 70' s Glam Rock Bsnd,T.Rex.(Bangagong, Get it on!) Marc died on September 16 1977,he was killed in a Car Crash. He was only 29 years old, only 2 weeks shy of his 30th Birthday. To those of you who also did not know this,Marc died exactly 30 days after Elvis Presley died. I loved them both,I was raised on Elvis Presley (1935-1977) , and I actually grew up with Marc Bolan (1947-1977), and T.Rex,I miss both of them,Rest in Peace,Elvis and Marc. 😢
He was scared of cars, really weird that he was killed in a car crash.
Marc was a huge talent, huge loss to the music world. "I danced myself right out the womb"/"I danced myself into the tomb"/"Is it strange to dance so soon?". Genius. RIP.
@@zoso73 I love that song, but when I was a kid I thought the lyric was "I danced my way right out of the room"!!!
I was expecting this video, I don't think there has been a year like 1977 in terms of the importance and the influence of the celebrities who died in those 12 months, can't recall another like it. Elvis, Chaplin, Groucho, Bing, Callas, Crawford, Peter Finch (who won a posthumous Oscar that year), I was between ages 18 & 19 and was a fan of most of them, starting the year with fellow Puerto Rican Freddie Prinze, what a tragedy. Thank You for the memories, Blessings from San Juan, PR 🇵🇷.
@@LeeTheVet Oh Yessss, 2016 !!! Muhammad Ali, Alan Rickman, Prince, George Michaels, Debbie & Carrie, Gene Wilder, David Bowie, Glenn Frey, Nancy Reagan, Zsa Zsa, Shandling, Haggard, Haggerty, etc, pretty impressive !!! 1987; Astaire, Hayworth, Kaye, Gleason, Lee Marvin, Liberace, John Huston, Bob Fosse, Lorne Green, Dean Martin's son, Robert Preston, Dick Shawn, Segovia, quite a line up of stars !!!
When the videos reach 1960’s, 1940’s , & 1910’s, it probably will be depressing. Though what Freddie Prinze did was quite unbelievable, he already has a son, Freddie Prinze Jr. Sad, he did not live to see his son making it in Hollywood.
A lot of ppl who died in 1977, were young. Very sad. Everyone of those in the group Lynard Skynard, were not even 30, when they died. 🪽🪽🪽🪽
(That was the yr I graduated high school.)
@@nathanbarger3449. Wikipedia states that he was suffering from depression and was going through a divorce.
Elvis' words about live concerts interestingly contrasted with the Beatles preference for studio work only.
Elvis fed off the live audience and worked his charasmatic magic on stage that drove them wild
Most starving musicians aren't in it for the money. There has to be something else that drives them. I think it has to be the thrill of the crowd. Applause? Attention? Something drives them to perform on the weekend and drive truck through the week. A bar owner may pay $500 for the band to play a gig. Split it 4 ways and pay the price of setting up and breaking down. Pay someone to do it, or use your time to do it yourself. It isn't the money.
The reasons The Beatles gave up live performances are the hectic grinding pace they were forced to keep up, and the fact that they were tired of playing for crowds who were screaming so loudly they couldn't even hear them play. Plus they wanted to record music that was much more difficult to reproduce live. Later on, only Paul McCartney returned to a full touring schedule, while George Harrison only toured a couple of times in his solo career. Ringo didn't tour again until the creation of his All Starr Band in the 1990s.
@@ernestcruz6316 If I were fortunate to have the talent with all the planets aligned, I would go the way of Steely Dan and hide away.
@@greenman8 They had the right idea: hired guns to sit in on various instruments and enhance their songs to the best of their abilities. But even they reunited and toured again, beginning in the late '90s.
Jean Hagen also played Danny Thomas's wife on Make Room for Daddy, plus she played Beryl Caine in Adam's Rib which starred Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy.
Not to mention Jean Hagen's legendary performance as Lina Lamont opposite Gene Kelly in Singin' in the Rain.

Chaplin is one of the most remarkable artists of the 20. century. He came from poverty, from literally nothing, was an outcast, was one of a handful of people who invented the art of moviemaking and never forgot where he came from. He was one of the most famous people of his time an risked all that he had (career, fame, money, reputation…) to say what he believed in. An artistic genius, brave humanist, remarkable man. For all the hard times and misfortune that he had to endure… never became a cynic, never gave up on being decent.
Oh… and he was also a composer. Wrote the scores to his films. Multi instrumentalist. He created “The Tramp”-imagery by combining old pieces of costumes that he found… would that make him a costume designer? And he was a screenwriter. He cut his own movies… I would also add “choreographer” to his list of occupations, because some of his comedic body-work/pantomime has the complexity of a professional dance routine.
He will be forever missed. Thank you, Charlie! ❤
I cried when Freddie Prince died he was a very very talented person
Well said. Chaplin was a trailblazer and a genius. Take a look at him receiving an Honorary Award at the 1972 Oscars. He is truly touched by his audience's outpouring of love. ua-cam.com/video/J3Pl-qvA1X8/v-deo.html
Charlie wrote 3 top 10 hits.....Smile (Nat King Cole) , This is My Song (Petula Clark) and "Eternally"
My upstairs office has a very large framed poster that takes up a large portion of one of the walls. I call it The Charlie Chaplin room. He was the first celebrity I was ever aware of.
It's such a shame Freddie Prinze died so young and didn't get to see the successful man his son became.
Only himself to blame He didn't die if some terrible disease or accident but by his own hand 😒
Depression is a disease and it's really too bad Freddie didn't get the help he needed. Gone way too soon
@@nicktaylor2657depression is a disease which Robin Williams was dealing with at time of his death by suicide while suffering from Lewy body dementia in which his was progressively growing rapidly when he died in 2014. Other comedians sadly suffered depression despite entertaining others for a living. Freddy Prinze had a dui in 1976 and by then his marriage had been dissolving and was suicidal then and also was addicted to drugs during height of his career.
Regarding Zero Mostel, of all his acting roles, my favorite was the voice of Kehaar the sea gull in the 1979 animated film version of Watership Down.
None of the Honkettes - Cassie Gaines, Jo Jo Billingsley and Leslie Hawkins are on Sweet Home Alabama , and they weren’t in the band when it was recorded in June 1973. The caption about Cassie contributing to this hit is wrong. All three joined the band in December, 1975 and sang on it live. Merry Clayton and Clydie King are the female singers on the song.
Stephen Boyd is the guy who played Messala? He was only 45, that’s so sad :(
William Powell (quiet member of the O'jays) died of cancer May 26th of this year.
Sebastian Cabot, best known as Mr. French on Family Affair also played Mr. Pip on a episode of The Twilight Zone and guest starred as Senor Don Antonio Luga on Bonanza and guest starred on The Beverly Hillbillies in 1965. R.I.P.
Remember Mr French, Jody and Buffy from Family Affair. Can't remember the year Brian Keith passed. One of my favorite shows from my childhood. RIP Sebastian Cabot
Just rewatched this video. There is another Honorable mention I'd like to include. Jackie Condon, who was an original cast member of the Our Gang (Little Rascals) film series, passed away from colon cancer on October 13, 1977. Interestingly, Bing Crosby passed on the following day.
Actor Peter Dyneley, who was the voice of Jeff Tracy on the original Thunderbirds series, passed away from cancer on August 19, 1977.
I remember opening up my new (Elvis) album right after he died....I got it in the mail and was opening it up while watching TV,.....ABC interrupted programming to tell us Bing Crosby died in Spain.....I was 13 that year.....and.... I remember exactly where I was/what I was doing, the day they both died....😢
Very good job, Vince. Respectful, reverent, and beautifully produced. Lots of work adding the original voices.
David Crosby lived longer than Bing Crosby. Unbelievable.
June 22, Serafina Miguens, my beloved grandmother😢.
Thank you.
If Elvis presley hadn't died just 3 days before then Grouchos death would've been remembered a lot better
Just like when Mother Teresa’s death was overshadowed by Princess Diana’s in 1997, or Farrah Fawcett’s death by Michael Jackson’s in 2009.
@@jordanserchuk7418The same can be applied to Helen Keller and Dorothy Gish, both of whom passed away the same week that RFK was assassinated in June of 1968. The passing of Monty Python actor Graham Chapman in October of 1989 was overshadowed by the passing of Bette Davis two days later. And Our Gang cast member Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer was killed the same day that Cecil B. DeMille passed away in January of 1959.
Stephen Boyd was quite a guy. Well respected as an actor and a person.
08/16 - Elvis died in '77; my dad died in 2015, same day.
BING AND ELVIS . 1977 was a brutal year . I remember it well . R.I.P. to both and everyone else in the video.
@@michaelleroy9281In terms of the significant celebrity passings we had that year, it absolutely was. Especially when you consider the legendary names we lost just in those last four months.
Lovely harp music! So comforting. Thank you for sharing. 💗
Alan Reed didn't voice Astro - that was Don Messick.
Beautiful memorial channel, Vince! Keep up the good work!
Alan Reed did the voice of Astro on the Jetsons? You might want to check on that. I was always under the assumption that Don Messick did Astro's voice.
Burt Mustin was a regular cast member of "The Andy Griffith Show."
Loved watching that old guy on TV when I was a kid. He had a very distinct voice. Like you were listening to your Grandpa for advice or something. He was a great character actor.😊
@jameswood231 Yes. I loved watching him when I was a kid too. I agree that he was a great character actor.
Wow! I was ten years old in summer camp when I made my nightly call home and my mom told me about Elvis passing..that was HUGE …
Overall, what I like best about your videos is that I can now put names to very familiar faces from the past
Bing Crosby and Elvis Presley dominated their eras like few others ever have. They were unmatched as popular singers and lent their talents to acting as well. Bing commanded the screen in a way Elvis couldn’t, but that does little to lessen Elvis’s cultural impact. So strange they died the same year. I remember where I was when I heard both Elvis and Michael Jackson died.
Elvis passed away the same day as Babe Ruth in 1948 August 16
That was beautifully put together...Elvis, and Joan Crawford...and to all lost in '77...I was 6 yrs old wish I could have met them. 🕊️❤
May God have mercy on their Souls and All Souls. Amen
6:22 Sebastian Cabot was also in "The Time Machine".
He was also the narrator for Disney's Winnie the Pooh series of films and recordings of the stories themselves on Disney's record label.
Elvis and Lynard Skynard. That changed history...
This was the year that my grandfather passed away, six days before Elvis Presley. Enjoy watching the videos.
My maternal grandfather also passed in 1977. I was born 7 years later so I never got to know him unfortunately. I hope he is watching over me.
I'm not afraid to die, I just don't want to be there when it happens. -- Woody Allen
Elvis,Bing Crosby,Ronnie Van Zant all within 2 months.
Groucho Marx right after Elvis.
That was a double whammy on the entertainment world at the time.
My mom always said 1977 was a bad year. In addition to losing all these people, she also lost her mom and one of her sisters less than a month apart that year, as well. Things never were really the same after that.
I lost my mom in 5/1977. She recently turned 61, the youngest of the five sisters. My cousins called my mother the "pretty one" I called the oldest "the mean one" and she lived to age 83.
To all that went home rest in peace God bless 🙏
The year I graduated from HS. Also lost my Grandma May. BTW Joan Crawford died of pancreatic cancer, not a heart attack as is usually reported.
I graduated the same year. I remember Elvis dying two weeks before I went off to college. It was stunning to so many people. He was so young.
Lost some heavyweight Hollywood legends in 1977 as we do every year but 77 lost Peter Finch at a relatively young age of 60 of a heart attack as well as losing Charlie Chaplin, Elvis Presley, Joan Crawford, and Bing Crosby among others. Even losing two of the Marx Brothers in same year Gummo and Groucho Marx. Freddie Prinze died so young at 22 at height of short career. Crazy to lost two actors who voiced characters in the The Jungle Book in 1977.
Freddie Prinze morreu tão jovem... que triste😢
We lost some amazing stars in this year i was 15 in 1977 ,, the one that made the biggest impact on me to this day and the biggest star of all was,, ELVIS PRESLEY he was an icon and the greatest entrtainer of all time and we miss him,,RIP to all 🌺❤️
It hit me doubly hard because he'd performed at the Assembly Hall at my university during my freshman year in Oct '76, and I didn't have the sense to buy a ticket to see him perform. Needless to say I lost it when he died at 42, less than a year later.
Bing Crosby, Groucho Marx, Charlie Chaplin, but Elvis's passing was the biggest one that year. It's impact is still felt today.
I feel young at 52 yet the majority of these people were gone before that. So sad, enjoy your days.
Seeing how they mentioned Ted Bundy in the 1989 version of Famous faces we lost, it's a wonder they dud not mention Gary Gilmore, the first person executed after capital punishment resumed. Gilmore was executed in 1977. People like these should maybe be in things like "Most Infamous People who died, if they ever come up with anything like that.
Arguably the one death of 1977 that shook the world was Elvis... Think about it, when he died, it was said that he was only worth 1 million or less...Nowadays his estate brings in an annual average of 10 million. But in total his estate is worth 400 to 500 million.. That's one person who' legacy will thrive and live on after we are all dead and gone..Talk about sustainability..
I WAS 9 AND THE ONLY ONE THAT I CAN REMEMBER IS ELVIS PRESLEY AS IT HURT LIKE HELL
❤ RIP BEAUTIFUL ELVIS AND THANKS FOR THE MUSIC ❤
The quotes you put at the end of your videos are absolutely amazing. The worst part of this video was seeing the members of Lynyrd Skynyrd and their entourage. Way too young to go.
Not according to the bible! The bible says it's once to live then the judgment. No such thing as to young
@@jamesallen3929 So you're basically saying that an infant who lives only a few hours or days is subject to the judgement of God?
Not at all because people who died before the age of accountability are not held accountable for there sins. Same with people who have severe mental disabilities
@@jamesallen3929The proof that when an infant dies that his or her soul goes straight to Heaven is in Romans 5:13. I find this scripture a huge comfort because my sister Anne had the mind of a 2 month old infant when she died.
@ladycplum Romans 5:13 proves that when an infant dies that his or her soul goes straight to Heaven.
I can still remember where I was when hearing of the deaths of Peter Finch, Bing Crosby, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Charlie Chaplin

The most important one on here is Elvis.
I cried when I heard he died.😢😢😢
Is someones life more important than any other??? only in the eye of the beholder and then the beholder has to ask them self, why?
Lost my Dad in 1977. He would be enjoying Elvis and Bing upstairs👍🙏
So many Legends passed this year.
So many famous died in 1977. So many so young. Also, some whose deaths didn’t even know because they were outshone by other famous faces. Even the story of Stephen Boyd is very interesting. Was shocked to learn some time ago he died so young.
My Grandfather died the same day as Elvis.
My favorite Howard Hawks film is "Rio Bravo" --bar none!
Awesome Job!!!
There are five not included that I would like to mention
1) Charlotte Greenwood - Played Aunt Eller in the film version of Oklahoma. Died of natural causes on December 28, 1977
2) Roberto Rossellini - Acclaimed director. Husband of Ingrid Bergman and father of Isabella Rossellini. Died of a heart attack on June 3, 1977.
3) Cyril Richard - Originated the role of Captain Hook in the Broadway musical production of Peter Pan. Also was the voice of Elrond in the 1977 animated film version of The Hobbit. Died from complications of a heart attack on December 18, 1977.
4) Delmer Daves - Best known for directing the Films An Affair to Remember and A Summer Place. Died on August, 17, 1977.
5) Virginia Gumm - Judy Garland's second oldest sister. Appeared in three of Judy's films including The Harvey Girls. Died on January 11, 1977.
Also with regard to Alan Reed, he did not do voice work for The Jetsons series. Don Messick was the voice of Astro.
True about Alan Reed. He did at least one other cartoon voice for Hanna-Barbera, Touche Turtle's sidekick Dum-Dum.
My father died in July, so to try to cheer my mother up, I thought I'd buy a ticket for her to see Bing Crosby who was set to tour the U.K. in '78. Then he went and died in October. A memorable year for me ☺
Was a fan of Eight Is Enough when it first aired, and wondered why Diana Hyland was replaced. I never knew until now. She had passed away from breast cancer.
I was 10 yrs. old.
I remember hearing about Elvis' death,as we were moving into our new home. I didn't believe it! I sat in the car, frozen in disbelief.
This was the year my dad past June 77 day after my 2nd birthday 😢
I and wife miss them good old actor and actress god bless them In past too😢
Amazing to think that Leopold Stokowski was born only 17 years after the end of the Civil War.
You should have added Mayo Smith who took my beloved Detroit Tigers to the 1968 World Series title Delmar Davis director of The Hanging Tree and the University Of Evansville basketball team who were killed in a plane crash after the plane taking them to a holiday basketball tournament in Richmond Virginia crashed in near blizzard conditions!
1977 was a big one. Groucho, Chaplin, Joan Crawford, Bing, Elvis.
Great showing. A great idea also would to have the younger generation EDUCATED in these stars and what they brought to the world, THEIR GIFT! ALL STARS FROM 1900 TO 2024. From Buster Keaton to the stars of 2000
Que O SENHOR JESUS CRISTO salve e abençoe os familiares de todos!
Some huge losses in 1977. I appreciate how you handled the Lynyrd Skynyrd crash. It was very classy and clearly not just an afterthought! Thanks
I didn't know Freddie prinze was only 22.
Also the Mary Poppins little boy was only 21?? A tragedy

I Graduated from High School in 1977, and noticed sooooo MANY MAJOR PLAYERS who passed that year. It's funny how that works. I mean, Elvis Presley, Joan Crawford, Groucho and Bing Crosby?! CRAZY!!!!
Sad to see that you omitted Wernher Von Braun from the list. RIP Dr. Von Braun 🚀
That was the strangest, most unflattering picture of Joan Crawford that I’ve ever seen. She was one of the talented great actresses of the American cinema. I also remember 1977 as the year of the NYC blackout.
Me and Charlie used to hang out at the old studio in Silverlake. He was very nice to me.
Elvis Presley. The King Of Rock & Roll.
Maria Callas. The Queen Of Opera.
Bing Crosby. The King Of Christmas Songs.
Charles Chaplin. The Great Genius Of Silent Cinema.
Rest In Peace, legends.
His works and inspiration living forever.
I’m amazed at how many people died from cancer and heart disease in their 40’s and 50’s on this. I’m 56, hardly any gray, and in good health except for mild high blood pressure and two knee replacements.
Even today, dying in your 70’s is early. 80 seems to be the expected, minimal age for a full long life.
Awesome shows 😊
God, I'm older than Elvis.
Even Bugs Bunny cartoons honored Leopold Stowkowski. There was one cartoon where Bugs was a symphony conductor and brushed his ears back, resembling Leopold's famous brushed back hsir, and members of the orchestra were in awe whispering "Leopold! It's Leopold!" Went right over kids heads, but sophisticated adults got it.

Wow what a great year so few death in the world that year. Amazing!
I was in the service, sitting in a cafe on Broadway in San Diego, two gents sitting down the counter were talking about what a great singer he was - Elvis had just died.
My mom committed suicide in '77. I see now she's in good company.
you ask anyone under 20 who these people were, 99% would have no clue as opposed to asking anyone over 60, the response would be the opposite.
My mom passed in 1977 when I was 6, she was murdered, it trumps any celebrates death by far. I miss you mom..
