  • When flying below 10,000 MSL our speeds must be 250 knots or below. The FMS will display 250 knots below 10,000. However, this speed can be changed. Many pilots prefer to fly at 240 knots below 10,000 (so there's no ATC misunderstandings). But sometimes when playing with the FMS a pilot will accidently set this speed to something else and you find yourself using Manual speed 250 (or 240) because the Airspeed window on the Flight Guidance Panel is displaying the wrong information. Well, you can change that. Here is a video on how to set airspeed limits based on altitudes (not waypoints). The FMS speed command is set to 10 knots below the entered limit. This is to ensure compliance with regulations below 10,000'. If you want 250 knot, you would enter 260. If you want 240 knots, enter 250. This video will show you how to set these speeds.
