FMS Radio Configuration
FMS Radio Configuration. As you probably know, you can use the FMS to tune frequencies and channels (COM, NAV, TRANSPONDER, ADF, HF). The most common items that are tuned included the COM, NAV and Transponder. With the approval of maintenance and management, you can configure (organize) the tuning page to your desire. Here is how to do that.

How to obtain ATIS using ACARS. This is Honeywell's newer CD-830 CDU (control display unit) FMS with touchscreen (which I don't really care for). The function buttons are above the screen instead of below the screen, but it works just the same as the older models.

This video will show you how to enter a flight plan and performance for the G-IV Honeywell FMS 6.1. We will depart from KMEM and return to KMEM. We will depart on Runway 18C and fly the ELVIS4 Departure (SID) to the EFOUR transition. We will return to KMEM via the VANZE3 Arrival (STAR) via the CRAMM transition. Our approach will be the ILS Runway 36C with NESBT as our initial fix.

    Nice work,.Only thing I would have done differently is set the missed approach altitude (for the ILS 27) after rolling out on the parallel course, disconnected the AP and then descended manually for the landing on 18R. Technique and personal choice of course. Nice video.

    The G-IV is a two pilot airplane and this approach is usually performed at night in the sim. I last performed it in the Flight Safety sim in September, 2023. However, last I heard, it was likely going to be replaced by the ILS 6 circle 1 at TEB.

      True. 2 pilot crew and at night. This video was meant to show how to set up and execute the task. Hopefully you’re correct about the ILS 6, circle to 1 in TEB.

    What’s the use case for this circle to land, when there is an ILS, LOC, and RNAV approach available for 18R? Someone westbound with an emergency and strong crosswinds from the south? Why not land direct, either on 27 or any of the available 18s?

      This is a demonstration of the localizer approach to circle to land for the type check ride. I’ve been flying G4’s for 5 years and have learned that just because an airport has numerous approaches some may be unavailable for whatever reason. You need to be prepared to perform a random localizer with circle to land.

      So it’s not necessarily really for a practical real-world example landing at KMEM (because they could just be vectored around to another LOC), but more for another random airport only has one operating LOC or instrument approach, but the wind or shortened runway precludes landing on the same runway as the localizer?
