  • We take a ride on this little train designed to serve East End, commuters and businesses. Narration, with plenty of infographics, identifying all the roads and crossings that we pass over. Train is powered by DE30AC #413 blasting his K5LLA horn. Was kind of a gloomy, cloudy day, but it was a most enjoyable ride through this pastoral area which is much more pastoral in the winter months. It’s not the rat race that it is during the summer months.

I just found this video (somehow missed it when you posted it). I moved out to North Babylon back in the spring of 2016. In September 2016 on a day off I decided to ride the railroad out to Montauk. I rode from Babylon to Montauk arriving around lunch time. I was shocked to find how little there is around the area of the Montauk station. Not being familiar with the area, I took a guess and walked south on Edgemere Street to the village on the Atlantic shore (I figured that I'd find something there). Well, I wasn't disappointed. The village was very nice. I walked around for a while, having lunch at John's Pancake House restaurant. After walking around a little more, and taking a nice long look at the Atlantic Ocean, I walked back up Edgemere Street to the station and caught the train back to Babylon. It was a nice day.

I need to visit the other half of the Montauk Branch. I've only been as far as the amazing town of Patchogue 💗 Great video!

You experienced the big problem with 261 signaling out there. They only remoted the sidings at Hampton Bays and Southampton, basically for their scheduled meets. When something gets delayed (and in this case ironically due to signal problems), the whole line goes in the bag. Had it still been manual block, you would have gotten there sooner!

      Should add more remote sidings

at 42:28 is where the Sag Harbor brand breaks off to the north. Sag Harbor was the Original LIRR terminal that ran from Manorville to East Port then onto Bridgehampton terminating in Sag Harbor. At some point, the LIRR added an extension to Montauk. It explains why there is a south east curve here. Manorville to East Port was abandoned in 1949. Sag Harbor abandoned in I believe 1960.

Train 17 does that. Not sure there’s enough business to justify such a service.

They need to double track the Montauk branch. Do you know when that's happening?

When I was a kid, I remember riding to Montauk being led by Old Alco F Units, numbered in the 600s. Is this the same line?

    • @3985uprr

Do you think you could get a montauk branch or greenport branch RFW video at some point? Saw all your previous videos recording out the C3 side windows but you can’t ever beat the RFW POV

It’s hard to get a good video shooting out the front of those cab cars. They’re not designed to get up close to the window like on some of the other equipment that I ride.

Since I've never been to New York question for you. When you take the train to Philadelphia as you get to Secaucus there's some tall buildings I don't think that's Manhattan. Is that Jersey City? And is the bridge that you see in the distance i-95?

55:45 Isn’t Riverhead Yaphank stretch longer? I know it may not count because of the extremely limited service but still

Well there is Medford between those stations. Between Amagansett and Montauk, there are no stations.

@@3985uprr Medford is west of Yaphank
Edit: I do feel kinda bad because of the half hour delay in Southampton tho (Riverhead, not Ronkonkoma, I get it can be confusing)
