Thank you for your service to our nation's security! Of course, to me Memorial Day isn't just for those who've paid the alternant sacrifice, but to remember to appreciate those who never knowing if they're going at the end of their shift. For me, Memorial Day is day to remember everyone in our lives whether they in the Military or not we owe everyone a bit thanks for enriching our lives.
Love the horns, scenery, beautiful weather and commentary. Will be adding this to my LIRR Railfanning playlist. 0:53 I sure look forward to your fall trip. Your commentary and knowledge of trains is pure gold. So yes, you'll do a much better job. 17:48 Hey! M3s are not tin cans! M7s, maybe, but they're beautiful sounding tin cans. 😂
@@3985uprr 6005 (old 8703) commonly gets extended to Penn especially on holiday weekends or on sundays when there is not so nice weather (people all go at once early back to the city). It’s a very crowded train.
Looking forward to your take on Caltrain. True that many others have railfanned Caltrain but your take should be entertaining. Yes. EMD F40's, MP36's and RFW's (Northbound/To San Francisco) are what makes it unique. However the Stadler FLIRT's are going to be an improvement for most things. I wish that they had designed the Stadler FLIRT's EMU's with RFW's. So, yeah, get photos and videos when you can as the only constant in railroading is change. New trains, signals, switches, scenery and service patterns. In regards to Caltrain and horns. You probably missed out on when SP and Caltrain used to run with the P3's. Sadly, some NIMBYs in the mid-peninsula area where able to get Caltrain to stop using them. Having said that, at least Caltrain still has many grade crossings so you will get some good horn shows and action when you visit. I look forward to getting your take to see if you like the Caltrain horns better or worse than the C3 cab car horns.
Maybe someday this summer you can cover the early AM train that picks up the "Fire Island weekenders" from the "Death Boat" (that's what my cousin called it) that leaves Ocean Bay Park at 5:30 am every Monday during the summer...
Such long trains to Montauk! Even on a holiday weekend it's hard to believe they're all full, but I guess they are. Where does the Montauk branch narrow from 2 tracks to 1, and what is the maxximum track speed?
Amtrak's northbound Coast Starlight #14 enters the Peninsula Corridor at Carnadero Avenue Junction, makes a station-stop at San Jose, and yes -- continues on to Seattle via Oakland. While southbound train #11 enters the Peninsula Corridor at New Hall Yard, makes a station-stop at San Jose, and continues south -- terminating at Los Angeles Union Station. So, the Coast Starlight travels on the PC between Carnadero Avenue Junction, and New Hall Yard.
Tim, as a fan of your videos, but someone who has never been to Long Island (other than to queens and Brooklyn), do trains not run all the way to Montauk other than in the summer?
Yes, there’s a moderate schedule to Montauk in the off-season. On a weekend you can easily take a day trip out there. They run three trains out in the morning and early afternoon, and three trains back in the late afternoon and evening. The station is about a 15 minute walk from the village in the ocean but it’s not bad in the town is pleasant with lots of restaurants and stores.
Why does LIRR need to use 2 locomotives on consists longer than, say, 4 or 5 cars? Even 6 cars is abnormal for one diesel? Meanwhile, GO Transit up in Toronto runs 12 bi-level cars with a single loco....... 🤔
According to wiki: On most Class I railroads, this rule references bi-directional operation on any mainline track. Multi track mainlines signalled for 261 operation have full speed signals and speed limits on all available tracks as conditions warrant. Rule 261 operation is the default operating procedure on single track mainlines.
Get those ugly 1960’s engines and cars off that railroad please replace them with plant saving 2024’s electric engines and single level complete access cars so everyone has access to entire consists. 😊
Awesome
518s horn was amazing.
Summer time on the Montauk line. Thanks Tim😀💚
Your amazing Retired Railfan!!! I have been waiting on this video for a long time!!
Yeah. He is definitely one of the best railfans around.
Wow, nice job! Wonder if you know where that old siding in Eastport used to go at 51:39? Looks like they cut it off years ago.
What a day! great video!
Great to see the Cannonball!!! Great to see a full pre pandemic schedule back!!!
Yes you make great videos I enjoy your comments on the video
Glad you like them!
Awesome video once again tons of action & amazing horn!
The Montauk trains are back, along with the lanternflies. Great video as usual.
Haven’t seen any of those here
@@3985uprr Hopefully, it stays that way. Stay safe out there RR.
Wow this such a fantastic video. Love watching these long videos of Montauk Branch trains during the summer months
I was in NY last weekend. Weather was great
Also got a rear horn too! Awesome video 19:08
I think Spaghetti likes his diesel runs during the summer time and weekends too
The Friday night train to Greenport does have a name also? Years ago I think it was called the Shelter Island Express
The cape flyer also started last weekend!

Would love to see some sunny yard and LIRR west side moves. Not many of those on UA-cam
I remember when 6006 was the late night drunk train to Babylon MU’s
The Cannonball! 💥
Great video! Sayville is a good spot especially during sunset in the summer months when the lighting is perfect for trains in both directions.
And what’s pretty cool was both 6005 & 6011 were extended to Penn Station!
They only go as far as Jamaica. Only 6017 goes to Penn Station.
I know, but I have video proof that they went to Penn Station, it’s not the first time they’ve done it

MONTAUK TRAINS ARE BACK!! Trains back to pre-pandemic schedules even better!!
I will look for your notice for when you do Caltrain in San Francisco. Do the SMART in Marin County too.

A little better but they aren’t nearly as good as the old SP Trainmaster M5 horns.

U should do some railfanning at Breakneck Ridge. Get some real high-speed diesel action from MNCR and Amtrak.
9:10 never seen a 6 car one engine before
They run rarely these days
It’s Cannonball Time.
Hey Tim did all those Montauk trains go via the Central and Main Lines?
Mixed. About 50-50
@@3985uprr do you remember MARC cars were used on the Pt. Jeff Line....are they doing that this year?

Y east of Sayville. Max is 65mph in diesel territory
They don't still have parlor cars, do they?
Just reserved service on the Cannonball
Site of former Quogue station 50:47

If you do make a Caltrain video, please include in your commentary: Amtrak's Coast Starlight on the Peninsula Corridor!
I will mention about the Lark and the coast, daylight. Didn’t the coast starlight go to Oakland? I know the Lark traveled overnight to San Francisco.

Are you going to be filming the Independence Day parade on Sunday?
Probably not

GO locomotives are more powerful. 4000-5000hp.
And what is Rule 261?
