Ride on LIRR #17 nonstop Speonk-Jamaica plus frenzied M3 action at Jamaica.

- There’s nonstop ride from Speonk to Jamaica, was handled by a rather heroic engineer, who did amazing things on this run. We were five minutes late out of Speonk and enroute we were delayed at Patchogue for a late eastbound, we nearly hit a person at Bayport and he had to dump the train, and we had a slow ride thru Babylon. Inspite of this, we arrived Jamaica exactly on schedule!! A great performance!! Upon arrival at Jamaica, the active M3 roster seemed to gang up on the station. We get a chance to see several of these trains, in addition to seeing action on the new tracks 11 and 12 platform. It was the most exciting and thrilling day from the rural east end of Long Island to the bustling Jamaica station!!!! (At Lindenhurst at 54:39 roughly, that was #173 running west on track 2 in order to allow us to proceed at track speed on track 1. I was wondering where the train was I thought we may have passed it in Babylon). This cab car.#5021 has a unique quill horn.

The engineer must be into jazz with those horns😎
Never knew they could be sort of modulated like that
The Rail, LIRR runs the trains near perfection.. Folks live so far out and can reach Manhattan in a hour plus some minutes. This always fascinates me. Love it.
You know, I never actually knew how to pronounce “Speonk” despite many family members of mine living on Long Island. Thanks, Retired Railfan Horn Guy!
Reminds me of the mid 2000s with the way that engineer is blowing the horn! Good video work as always!
Montauk branch is my favorite, I used to take a lot of trips on it just for the ride
Always wanted to! I will when I get time.
Love the all the new express trains since the schedule change!!!
Awesome! The C3 horn action was simply amazing brings back memories from the 2014-2015 days when I started out as a Railfann.
Awesome express ride! Reminds me of the nonstop ride I had from Huntington to Jamaica. 80mph all the way!! Thanks Tim😀💚
Let's Rock and Roll 🥐🥖
Sure enjoyed the ride. Great videol You are the best in your railfanning profession.
Thank you very much!
Have you noticed that recently all the LIRR windows have a sprayed on diffusion outside? It's almost like the windows are dirty but it's not dirt. The application extends to about 1/2 inch all the wat around where the original clear window shows. Maybe to diffuse the sun? Bad for videos though.
M3’s look really good still
Greetings. You mentioned train 173 so I thought I would comment on that. Train 17 is scheduled to run ahead of 173, but if 17 is late enough that 173 can be moved out of Babylon first without further delaying 17, they can (and yesterday did) cross 173 up to no. 2 track. (*This also depends upon 166 being on or close in Babylon, which it was - it was the train on track 3, turning for 263). There’s a gap in eastbound service after 166 that provides a window for 173 to run on no. 2 to Amityville (except when the Cannonball is running), and if you look closely at the train in Lindenhurst, you can see it has markers rather than headlights on its east end. That was 173! Hope this helps.
I thought that was an eastbound in Lindenhurst. I’ve seen many trains have the markers on in addition to the headlights.
If flying Yankee was doing this run, he’d be speeding and blowing the horns super loud at every stations
This guy was silent west of Babylon but he had a unique way of sounding the C3 horn otherwise.
That was the best 16 minutes of my life. 🥲 Seeing 46's on the (R) and seeing R160's on the (N), (Q), and ESPCIALLY ON THE (W) TRAINNNN!! Awesome video bro😁😁
I thought it was my birthday when I saw the M3 party even though its 6 and 1/2 months away🙃
I saw train#17 on my way home on sunrise hwy where people usually go fishing. M3s are cool to see, wish they upgrade the seats in the inside of the train like M3As on Metro-North. I wonder what happened to flying yankee.
He works out of Grand Central
Lots of crossings
Tim, I love the horns today!
But not other days???
@@3985uprr I love them every day, but they were especially good, today!
I've never ridden the LIRR east of Babylon, and I never rode a train that went nonstop from Babylon to Jamaica; interesting that they would run one from Speonk on a weekday afternoon in March! I would have thought the line would have been double-tracked all the way to Patchogue, but I guess that's not the case. I remember there was talk years ago about extending electrification to Patchogue, but obviously that never happened.
My favorite part was when the train entered the station
Of course it was. There was only 1 station it would stop at
He didn't acknowledge the automatic train control. That's why the bells were sounding.
The Far Rockaway Line does it connects with the (A) train since it also stops there? 🤔
It’s a short walk a few blocks
I'm of that age when Massapequa Park had a grade crossing. I think they got rid of it around 1980. Am I close?
I know it was the last station that they elevated
Hey, I've got the first comment of the video!
For cars that are considered old and outdated-and were supposed to have been retired by now-the M3’s have certainly been providing yeoman service.
I love my c3 cars as much as my m7’s but why can’t we have a hybrid on the montauk branch to improve productivity or a second island at a station like east or Southampton
4:10 was this spaghetti and meatballs? That horn blowing is too similar, haha.
No
the funny part about the C3 horns, they used to have a solenoid valve that would go full open and quill the horn until the engineer released the button. yes, it's a yellow mushroom cap button. now, the C3's horns have a solenoid that's basically on and off. like the original DE/DM K5LA solenoids. 5021 had the classic style high low solenoid put back in. that's why it sounds like that.
@@evangouldtransit is that the only one of its kind? I never heard a C3 sound like that
@@3985uprr they sounded like that a WHILE ago, as of now this is the only one like that
I'm going to take the historic route from Virgina to Washington DC. In June. Is there something I can pick up in DC to extend the ride?
Marc.
Cool vid. Just out of curiosity, where on long island did you grow up? Because you seem to now every town well.
Babylon area.
Are you ever going to take train #14? It’s defiantly a better ride than this. This time of year would be good before it gets too crowded.
I get turned off by the crowds, but I know if I do that I’d be coming back late from Montauk
Always that blabbermouth woman passenger
