Huge feldspar crystals in a roadcut on Rockingham road, Ontario. We left many crystals there, and more work could be done.
Thank you for this video! Question for you, do those large feldspar crystals form Only In Pockets? I have found some floaters that have Crystal faces, and I'm wondering if that indicates a pocket nearby. Thanks!
Yes, it probably indicates a pocket nearby. There are exceptions, notably well-formed crystals of feldspar as xenocrysts in volcanic rocks. For example, sanidine crystals in rhyolite breccia around Penticton, BC are in massive rock (no pockets).
@@GeologyofGemsMinerals gotcha, thank you so much! In this case, I am looking at a simple pegmatite outcrop in a granite pluton. The pegmatite has weathered away, but I find these well-formed feldspar crystals as float on the surface. I'm hoping that means that there was a pocket somewhere. I also find graphic granite, and think I've have found the exposed core of the pegmatite. Wish me luck!
@@Suburbanstoneage Good luck!
