Great chemistry between you two guys! I'm really happy for Zenith that they're on a solid track. I really love the Defy Classic line and even own a Skeleton Black Ceramic. BUT I have to say that Zenith should really find a distinctive, instantly recognizable and unique design language in the future. Imho they're changing their design language way too often which makes it hard to build a relationship with the brand long term. And that's not only a current issue. They're guilty of it for decades. Same goes for Girard Perregaux. Both brands released really odd timepieces that were discountinued pretty soon and both brands seem to struggle a bit in which direction they should go. Nevertheless - I wish them all the best for their future!
I had to read the date a few times to make sure it wasn't an April fools prank. I think the Defy Classic is the most stunning and well balanced integrated bracelet watch on the market.
In the UK classic defy watches being sold at 30% discount from the Watches of Switzerland group with 0% apr for 24 months. Includes open work and none open work, steel (blue dial), titanium, ceramic and rose gold. As of 16/07/23 for those interested.
So glad I jumped on the "night surfer" when I did! For my next Zenith purchase, I'm eyeballing the Ultraviolet El Primero! What a cool watch! Love my Defy Night Surfer though, it's so silky smooth and I get complements all the time!
I think the move to use an El Primero movement in the new Watch was Just to reduce complexity in Production (make it cheaper) instead of investing in an updated movement with extended powerreserve for the defy classic. And to keep it cheap the seconds hand need to be at 9 as the El Primero has it at 9, Not because of design choice. Sorry, a bit cheap and Not because of customer dedication
exactly, and it is not even a chronograph watch. Cost saving and using el primero's fame to make the product popular, cheap move and show no respect to their own history. What a shame
I'm sure you are right that the changes are for economic reasons and I think that's fine, a business has to do what it has to do but ridiculous spin always leaves a bad taste.
I got a Defy Classic blue dial about 18 months ago. Absolutely love the piece! The new Defy model is disappointing to me. That 10 second subdial is ridiculous. Make it a central seconds with that 60 second sweep that an El Primero 5hz movement can give you!
What I love about Rolex is even when a model is updated you're never left with an outdated looking model. The same can't be said of other brands when they discontinue a model.
Defy skeleton would have been my next target down the road (after my grail target im about to get) . Sad sad , such a beautiful watch without the snobbery. Part of me is hoping its a late April fools joke
Nice interview, thank you. Chronomaster Sport is amazing, rose gold version is beautiful, not so crazy about the open dial one but hey everyone's different. Was just warming up to the Defy Calassic....
Haha you're giving me way too much credit, Andrew ;) I appreciate it. Sad to hear that the Defy line is dead, but I'm excited that a) I jumped on the Night Surger and b) Zenith will continue to release some new amazing references.
So basically they're really replacing the Defy with the new very similar watch. Still it will have the effect of boosting prices and exclusivity. It kinda pisses me off, because although I probably wouldn't buy one it is a watch I liked and could think about buying. I think if you want to discontinue a watch in favor of a newer design; introduce the new design and assuming it's an improvement, people will go to it. Then you can quietly discontinue the old. By discontinuing a watch at the peak of it's popularity you're just manipulating the market. Much like Rolex discontinuing the "Tiffany" dial 41 while it's arguably their most popular model; they say they are not pumping up the Grey market and the resellers, but by doing that, it's EXACTLY what they are doing!! If the watch companies are going to play this game, eventually they will lose big, it might take a while, but eventually customers will resent being manipulated and move on!
It was after being in that Panerai shark cave diving deep into the new collection. It could make every man a bit dizzy. Or its just too much free champagne 🥂⌚️
It looks a lot like the Royal Oak and it's a shame that it's being discontinued. I get the feeling that this is the result of stiff competition from the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80. They look pretty similar but the Tissot is probably a lot less expensive. Zenith tends to be pretty high-end.
You're aware that the original Zenith Defy came out in 1969 - 3 years before the Royal Oak came out, right? The RO is obviously quite dominating in this space but the lines are pretty blurry when it comes to the real history. A shame to see this watch go, it really is a gem.
@@polariz666 As a matter of fact Michael, I was not aware. I thank you for that knowledge because each bit of knowledge that I get makes me a better man. I defer to you and stand corrected. I must agree that it really is a gem and it will be sad to see it go, specially since I'm only seeing it for the first time. I would say then that the Royal Oak is an homage to the Defy because there's far too much similarity between them for it to be mere chance. There is reason to take heart however. I have to assume that this watch hasn't been in constant production since 1969. I could be wrong but it would be odd since it was unknown to me and I've been an enthusiast for many years. Odder things have happened though so I won't take it for granted. Still, if they discontinued it and brought it back, they will do it again. One day, she'll be back in the Zenith AD stores giving you that "Pick me! Pick me!" look just as she always did. :)
Umm…should of seen this coming when the Skyline collection was introduced. Which is a similar concept, if with a different execution. And with an El Primero movement.
I’m on Zenith’s side with this. When you have limited resources within the business structure, you have to make hard choices and whilst this is disappointing news, as in most cases in life, the old must make way for the new. Lucky people who own an existing Defy, the value has just increased exponentially! ❤️🙏
They take it away to drive up demand where it never existed before for this brand. I’m sure if the secondary market pricing goes up, they will bring it back.
No no, that's terrible decision, Is El Primero 21 getting cancelled too? TBH I don't like Chronomaster (looks like a homage/ fugazi Daytona) or Skyline (AP RO)
The Skyline is not a cool watch, but just a gimmicky show off, am sorry to say so. Really like Zenith for decades now, but this model is ridiculous. A three hands watch and you cannot read the exact seconds... :(

Great peace . So underrated iv always wanted one just haven’t had cash to buy .
Congrats on the purchase 👍
It has been SO LONG when a new watch line gives me GOOSEBUMPS! SKYLINE collection is INSANE!
I've owned a Zenith for many years and I Love it it's the best TV I've ever owned.
🤣
Defy Classic could be an overlooked gem

Cartier has a timeless design
I loved the Defy Classic. I have one in ceramic but always wanted the titanium.
Nice, which color?

such sad news! I love that night surfer! it really is a work of art! it will now go into the pages of history as another great one!
I mush prefer the classic to the Chronomaster so yep right there with you!
The midhnight DEFY is CRAZY! so well done.GEEZ.
I'll interested to see what comes next.
the defy classic was one of my favorite watch
Did the cameraman had to much to drink? Looks like he’s on a Ship 😂

We can confirm that he’s drunk AND on a ship 🚢 🍺

Agree, this model never reached its potential, but don’t agree they’ll bring it back.
I'm too poor to have an opinion.
Duzn't stop me, Matt 🤪
Three hand El Primero! Cool! Good vid. Keep at it!
Did you mean it’s discontinued?
Love if they sell it with big discount now 😋
I think everyone saw this happening with the new releases
Right? they announced it (I had thought) as the replacement - or an update to - the Classic.
So let’s discontinue our best selling Watch line yeah that makes sense🙄
Skyline is extremely good looking watch.
Hi, do you know if the Defy Classic ceramic models are also going to be discontinued? Thanks
Yes they are
lol happy i got to try on the skeleton one 3 months ago
How many percent discount approximately? :p
No no, that's terrible decision, Is El Primero 21 getting cancelled too?
TBH I don't like Chronomaster (looks like a homage/ fugazi Daytona) or Skyline (AP RO)
This is what sells though
WHY
Sad day.
Yep, didn't feel like it was time, even if Skyline is new collection to replace.
@@Timeandtidewatches I preferred the classic to the new Skyline looks like a pattern of a mattress. Lol
Next one, will be better...Zenith nowadays is the King! But please, be man enough to say that there are watches for men and watches for women!
These must be pieces that lose value as soon as you put it on your wrist and walk out of the store .
Oh no.....
Something about Two Men talking about having a Baby just doesn't sound good.
This is true
The Skyline is not a cool watch, but just a gimmicky show off, am sorry to say so. Really like Zenith for decades now, but this model is ridiculous. A three hands watch and you cannot read the exact seconds... :(
Get a tripod for your camera.
Only discontinued to create a higher value on the secondary market. Cheap play.
Might want to check your spelling!
Skyline is ugly.
It’s definitely different to DC classic
In other news, who cares
Nice job trying to build hype though
hahahah true
I do.....
Why are u on this channel watching this video if you don’t care…
@@AdityaKhorana must be a Rolex fanboy 😂😂
Well if you intend to buy one, you suddenly have to buy it at a higher price. I guess a defy classic will easily reach 9.000€ after discontinuation.
