    Dallas is much more colder than Houston during the winters (average 15° more cooler in Dallas). Dallas is slightly less humid than Houston (average 10% less humidity in Dallas). The hot summers "feels like temperature" are about the same for Dallas and Houston (Dallas summer temperatures are slightly higher than Houston which offsets with slightly higher humidity in Houston for the "feels like temperature" index).
    Dallas is the 3rd largest city in TX whereas Houston is the largest. However, Dallas-FW is the largest metro area in TX whereas Houston is the 2nd largest. Dallas area feels more like a never ending suburb with countless small cities, whereas Houston area has denser populations and a greater variety of neighborhoods. Dallas has strong zoning laws which gives it a perceived cleaner look but sometimes can be inconvenient, on the other hand Houston's zoning laws are very laxed and tuned to laissez-faire. Dallas's economy is more diverse than Houston's economy where the dominant industries are the oil & gas, healthcare, trade, and manufacturing sectors. Living costs (including real estate) in both cities are comparable.
    Houston is a more diverse and less segregated city than Dallas. Compared to Dallas, Houston has slightly better quality/variety of restaurants, museums, parks, and performing arts. Houston has a few lakes and is nearby the Gulf of Mexico and its beaches, whereas Dallas is landlocked but has many lakes. Unlike Dallas, Houston has a port, and offers vacation cruiselines. Gardening in Houston includes sub-tropical plants such as palm trees and citruses, but not in Dallas. Dallas and Houston traffic congestion rates are about the same. Crime rate in Dallas is slightly less than Houston. Houston has more consulates of other countries than Dallas. Houston is more forested whereas Dallas has more grasslands. Dallas-FW area has slightly more highly rated K-12 schools than Houston, but greater Houston area offers slightly better universities/colleges.
    Houston or Dallas, it all comes down to your personal preferences and source of income. I personally prefer Houston!

      These are 20 reasons why Houston will always be better than Dallas but y'all still trying to beat the 4th largest city in the US but keep dreaming🤣
      1. We have less homelessness than Austin, San Antonio and Dallas per capita of 10,000 residents. Houston Metro ranks 4th in homelessness from Texas' four biggest cities. In fact, Houston has reduced its homeless problem thanks to local government policies such as affordable housing programs for low income families.
      2. We are not only the most diverse city in Texas. But the most diverse in the entire country.
      Houston is home to the nation’s third largest concentration of consular offices representing 86 nations.
      3. We have better education, upper level education universities and more recognizable than any Dallas school? We have University of Houston and Rice, also known as an Ivy League level school, the only one in the South. I have never heard of anyone say "I want to go to SMU!"
      4. We are home to the world's famous Texas Medical Center, which contains the world’s largest group of research and healthcare institutions. As a non-profit organization, the Texas Medical Center is comprised of 49 member health care organizations focused upon improving patient and preventative care, education, research, and local, national, and global public health and wellness. The Texas Medical Center employs one of the very largest health care workforces, numbering over 73,600 individuals. As a leader in the industry, Houston ranks 1 in the healthcare sector in the US. Houston is home to the world’s best medical schools, cancer care clinics, psychiatric treatment centers, air emergency services, and long term acute care providers in the U.S.
      5. Houston Spaceport - amazing project. A major one for the world. We once again reclaim Space City
      6. Houston is only 45 minutes to the coast! We are not landlocked and have access to some lakes and the beach. For tropical plants lovers: Houston can grow palm trees and other tropical vegetation thanks to our climate. Dallas can't and has to use fake ones for "appeals" (Look at Galleria Dallas mall as an example, fake palms everywhere).
      7. Only Texan city with a Chinatown, Little India and a Midtown district which contains a large concentration of some of the best nightlife that Texas has to offer. Again, diversity!
      8. Greenest big city in the US and The Energy Capital of the World.
      8a. According to the Houston government, the City of Houston is the nation’s largest municipal user of renewable energy in the US with renewable energy five years ahead of schedule.
      The Houston region is one of the fastest growing regions for solar in the country.
      8b. Out of the 10 most populous U.S. cities, Houston has the most total area of parks and green space, 56,405 acres (228 km2). The city also has over 200 additional green spaces-totaling over 19,600 acres (79 km2) that are managed by the city
      9. Houston has a way larger and taller skyline. In fact, Houston carries the title for having the nation's 4th largest skyline in the US after NYC, Chicago and Miami. We have 7 out of the 10 tallest skyscrapers in Texas. Houston is known for having "multiple skylines" Downtown, Uptown, Greenway/Upper Kirby and Medical Center are the most known. Where does Dallas rank? Dallas ranks 8, just behind Seattle.
      10. Houston remains the Energy Capital of the World. Big money is moved here in both oil and gas industry.
      11. Houston is one of the only 5 U.S. cities with resident companies in all major arts and disciplines including theater, ballet, symphony and opera, with exciting performances all season long.
      The 17-block Theater District is home to nine world-class performing arts organizations with more than 12,000 seats. Only New York City has more seats concentrated in one geographic area.
      The other four cities in the US are:
      1. New York
      2. Chicago
      3. San Francisco
      4. Boston
      11a. Houston Grand Opera is the only opera company in the world to win a Tony, two Grammy and two Emmy Awards. The New York Times calls the Houston Grand Opera "the jewel in the cultural crown."
      12. Houston also shows its devotion to the arts through a full complement of art museums and critically acclaimed galleries. Houston's Museum District offers a range of museums, galleries, and art and cultural institutions, including the City's major museums. Approximately 4 million people visit institutions in the Museum District every year.
      The Houston Museum District is one of the largest museum campuses in the country. It includes 20 institutions within walking distance of one another.
      13. We have some of the best parks in the US and the nation. Houston is home to 337 parks and Hermann Park was ranked #3 best park in the US.
      14. Bigger, more diverse and world class food. Houston cuisine has been classified as the best in Texas by multiple sources.
      15. Houston conducted the largest major league sports stadium build-up in the U.S with grand arenas. In the sports industry, Houston is home to the Rockets (NBL), Astros (MLBA), Texans (NFL), Dynamo (Soccer) are some of the most renowned sports team in the nation.
      16. Houston Livestock and Show Rodeo
      17. To me? More exciting projects underway, The Allen, Land Bridge Memorial Park, Autry Park Urban Village, Spaceport Houston at Ellington Airport, the world's first commercial spaceport, the Buffalo Bayou and Hermann Park remastered plans and more.
      18. Update which city giant carries the higher number of 500 Fortune companies headquarters
      In Houston metro: 24 (Ranking 3rd in the nation)
      (Houston.org updated June 6, 2021)
      In DFW metro: 22 (Ranking 4th in the nation)
      (Dallas News updated June 2, 2021)
      19. We are home to The Galleria: Texas largest shopping mall, popular for its upscale dining and shops. The 7 largest in the nation, and part of the "10 Most Valuable Malls in America," the only mall from Texas in this category.
      20. Needless to say, we are projected to become the nation's 3rd largest city. Population in Chicago has been declining for the past 7 years or so whereas Houston has steadily been increasing.
      But go off if you think Dallas can beat these stats🤷🏽‍♂️

    The truth is both places are very nice Houston or Dallas. Overall Dallas is a newer place, with nicer and more prosperous cities all around it. Dallas has Plano, Frisco, Fort Worth, Irving, Garland Arlington, University Park Highland Park, etc. Both places are great, but As a metro Dallas has more people, nicer cities, less crimes. What I tell people you cannot go wrong whichever city you select (houston or Dallas), but the edge is for Dallas.

      @Shikta-poobah67 Рік тому

      I can agree with most of what you said except for crime. In the last 25 years or so, Dallas has had a slightly higher crime rate than Houston, with a short-lived spike in Houston’s violent crime that lasted only about a year and a half in the mid 2000’s. Houston just has a reputation for crime from it’s past that still haunts it, from 40+ years ago when it was the nation’s murder capital for a few years. Those days are long gone. It’s a much safer place today than it was in the late 70’s and early 80’s. That’s not to say it’s crime free, but it’s definitely not what a lot of people make it out to be. Also, I’d say Houston actually has the edge, as it’s more diverse and a bit friendlier than Dallas, but I have nothing against Dallas.

The only thing I’ll add is that until the 1990 census, the metroplex was counted and ranked as two separate metro areas (Dallas MSA and Fort Worth MSA). Even today, in many ways it still feels like two different metro areas. Still, it’s officially one metro area now.

    I am an African American originally from Southeast Georgia near Savannah married to a Peruvian woman. We live in San Antonio which is a good place to raise a family but the diversity here is a problem for me. We agreed to move to Dallas because the traffic, flooding, and hurricanes turned my wife off plus have family that has moved to Dallas within the last 5 years. Fresco is a beautiful area but the only problem is the cost of living is cheaper in San Antonio and Dallas is more expensive than Houston. I have two homes in San Antonio with a 2.49% interest rate and the way rates are now, I do not see a move anywhere anytime soon.

    I have been living in Houston for 4 years and sadly, I can't say I like it. Freeways are horrible (counter intuitive design and confusing exits and entries). The city feels and is, over populated with an unbearable amount of traffic. Houston area is ranked #1 in the United States for people driving while intoxicated and car accidents are at a record high.
    The crime in Houston is also unbearable. Harris County, for which Houston is part of, has one of the most criminal friendly justice system in Texas, with people that have 7 prior felony convictions are still being given quick low bonds for new offenses. Making the city unsafe.
    The scenery is not that great either, the streets are not well kept and homeless population is very high. Be careful searching for apartments, many of them are shit holes, with an incredible high rate of crime within the complex, meaning your car will get burglarized in a manner of days.
    There is some things that are good here in Houston, like sports, food and the best healthcare system, but over all, I don't see the hype. I would like to visit Dallas, I might end up moving there.

Having said that, by no stretch of imagination, are Houston, and Dallas better cities to live in (than New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, or Washington); in fact, some of the best cities in the World, in which to live (e.g. Geneva, Basel, Reykjavik, Luxembourg,...), are, also, some of the most expensive cities (in the World) in which to live (as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for").

      Houston annexed all its suburbs to be the largest city in Texas. Houston is a massive 640 sq mi. Dallas is 340 sq mi. That’s nearly double the city limits size of Dallas. If Dallas had the same city limit size, it’ll be equal or probably bigger than Houston.

    • @goodwavesonly5417
      @goodwavesonly5417 Рік тому +1

      They don't understand. If Dallas annexed Mesquite, Irving, Garland, Grand Prairie, Richardson, Addison, Carrollton the conversation would be dead as far as comparing cities proper. The reason I mention these places are because you will never know you left Dallas city limits when entering these Dallas County cities refrenced. These are some of the largest cities in the state and country that's connected directly (No Gaps) to the city of Dallas proper, but Dallas doesn't allow annexing. As far as metropolitan areas no question Dallas overshadows Houston from it's appearance to amenities. A lot of people don't realize how these cities are shaped especially Dallas proper and Fort-Worth proper. You can live in Fort-Worth's city limits and be 20 mins or less from Downtown Dallas (Centre Point East). I hear ignorant people specifically from Houston say Dallas tries to add in Fort-Worth to appear larger. I can tell you there's a large number of people in Tarrant County (Fort-Worth and Arlington etc.) that travel to Dallas proper or Dallas County for work as I use to (vice versa bit more to Dallas County) this is how/why the Census Bureau and FG determines them to be within the same metropolitan area. There are so many large cities here in the Metroplex where they all have their own distinctive bussiness districts but Dallas County and Collin County has the bulk of the high paying Jobs ($100,000+) so residents travel. Dallas has better traffic than that of Houston but not because of less drivers but because there are so many bussiness districts (Downtown bussiness areas) held by different cities throughout the Metroplex. Residents go in all different directions to work and play. Most residents that work in the Houston metropolitan area go in one direction and that's toward the central core which makes traffic noticeably worse (within the loop). Dallas metro has more highway and concrete than Houston's metro as Dallas metro is super spread out and is a wide intersecting metro that connects other large cities and states a like. Houston is more dense for this same reason. Dallas metro could seem superlong and wide to get across, especially when you consider it feels like large city after large city for about 2hrs. across (East to West). I live in Dallas but have been to Houston quite a few times over the years and recently and know both very well. Dallas and the Metroplex just offers more opportunities and a better quality of life.

    • @labaroncharles1958
      @labaroncharles1958 Рік тому

      You are incorrect. It's because of the prominence of Dallas that the suburbs of Dallas and even Fort worth grow and that the Dallas Fort worth region is the power house it is in Texas and the United States. It's just the way the officials planned out the area that dallas the city's population is not higher but if we annexed as Houston did our population and size would be bigger. You take Dallas out the metroplex and you literally have nothing there. All respect to Houston though too. Dallas and Houston are the heart and soul of Texas. Without them Texas is not on the map around the world the way it is.

Houston has no pop to it. Dallas is very vibrant and artsy. Dallas is also bigger when it comes to fashion, gaming, filming and much more. We have the most shopping malls in the nation and so many fun areas like Deep Ellum, Bishop Arts, Greenville Ave, etc. Houston is also far more flatter than Dallas.
