I think having the option of choosing which design to purchase is a good step. As far as which heatsink is more efficient at heat dissipation, can't say as it matters. I've ran the Gen 1 for 8-12 hours straight at 1 Ohm (and not at your typical listening volume) and have never felt the exterior of the amp much over ambient temperature. That little fan gets down, lol. Supply the amp with the appropriate amperage that it demands, keep it out of clipping, watch your ohm load, and you're golden no matter which generation you choose. Great job Joe, glad to see your enterprise expanding 🦾 * Note: My unbiased results stated have been repeatedly tested over the course of 1 year, not just a one time dyno pull. I was not paid in any way for my testimony. I purchased the amplifier with my own money. *

Wanted to build a typhoon lol, impossible to find a blazer from that era in even decent condition body wise. Ty sir for the video and, as always, highly appreciated. Enjoy your Sunday 👍🤞
@@undernature2799 thanks UN! Cool input. So you’ve got an lt1 4th gen? Cool, I had a ‘95 z28 back in the day. Had a blast with that car! Did a lot of street racing with it.
@stereomojo yes sir with a whopping 80k miles 6spd and green lol the pretty green, not the pale looking green and t-tops. I had a 85 s-10 when I was 19 that we dropped a 350 in. I would race it a little. The one I'm building now will be awd it has a gmc safari drive train in the front.
Dang that's a strong little amp! This would be perfect for my two Sparkomatic 6x9's lol!! I love these amps but I'm like you, I've always like the green. Thanks for the videos!!
The orginal color with the new heatsink would be dope too! I like red and black but just too much red for me. All black with red acents would have been more of my speed
I would suggest running 2 Gauge or 0 gauge OFC wire and simply get adapters that convert the input to 4 Guage. It certainly couldn't hurt. (2 Gauge can be found in your Marine wire which go by increments of 2 instead of 4 like car audio. And generally have a better jacket around the wire. Or even use power wire for welders.)
I have a Gen 1, signed, was thinking about getting a 2nd one to use. Now I will wait for the 4ch and get a Gen2 and matching 4ch., but I really want a 4ch that matches the Gen1.
Okay so my honest opinion , both amps.. Absolutely awesome however .. 3 points that steer my choice .. 1. That noisy fan on the newer model , not a fan. 2. The red over the original green and overall look, I like the green better. 3. The 4 gauge input , not the biggest deal in the world but my PERSONAL opinion .. I would definitely buy the gen1 if I were to purchase today !! Thank you for all that you do for the community and the great product line you are now producing . Definitely still planning to grab one of your amps in the future to either run or just to have as a collector item.
Good call having a fan. I think most if not all amplifiers would benefit from a fan. And with the new mini computer fans using magnets instead of ball bearings they can be quieter than ever. The amp looks good. And its nice to have something pleasing to the eye when purchasing it. But most amps in vehicles get tucked away under seats or in trunks and are rarely seen if you think about it. Form should always follow function. But in today's world rarely does.
In complete honesty I like the gen 2 version. I did notice the fan noise, but typically microphones will hear noise like that better than we can. So I don't view fan noise as a real issue. I did notice with the 1 ohm impedance load test on the dyno, I did hear the fan physically slow down under testing load. This is an internal voltage drop ; probably enhanced due to the 4 guage connections of the amplifier and or the circuit traces on the amp circuit board. You can put the volt meter on the fan leads inside the amp and measure the voltage drop under load of the dyno testing. I would do that to satisfy curiosity of exactly what is happening at max output load. Like you i dont think it will be a problem with reliability. I did notice that with the cast heatsink there is more cooling surface area ( which is a good thing). That feature along with the internal cooling fan will definitely help the amp survive the hot environment of life in a hot car trunk during summer months. Over all I think you have a winner with the gen 2 version. The new 4 channel is likely to have the same fan issues and voltage drop on its circuit board. If you do a larger amplifier, it will have to have heavier power supply connections and wider power traces on the circuit board so as to be a quality viable product. The build quality of these series of amplifiers looks really good to me. No wires added like the old days. Toroid transformers look like really nice quality and the filter transformer looks good too. The electrolytic capacitors are probably better quality, which is giving slightly better wattage output on the dyno testing. Your definitely taking Welsh Audio in the right direction and with good products that deliver the goods. In this economy every other manufactor is trying to cut anywhere they can get by with. Your not and that is why you will succeed in building a respected reputation and product line in the car audio industry. Great video and there are a lot of people watching your channel now, and thats a good thing as well. 73 GOD bless Earnest K5EWM. 👍
@@earnestmatlock9694 Dang Earnest, another insightful comment! Yeah, I’m sure you’re right about the voltage drop and the fan. That sure would be a cool test! Thanks again Earnest!
@@stereomojo thanks for the reply. That voltage drop under load will create heating of the conductors (circuit board trace/ etc...). If you found a remedy to stop the voltage drop. You may get another 100 watts @ 1 ohm out of the amplifier. Judging by the rpm drop of the fan the voltage on the board is dropping 4 volts before it makes it to the power supply regulator circuit. It would take testing to verify my theory. Other than that, I think its a solid product. . Full range mono block, I could have fun with that. Lol [{( CRANKENSTEIN)}] ! LOL.
