- Nestled on the Swiss-German border in the town of Schaffhausen, the International Watch Company has been making dedicated pilot’s watches for almost a century, the latest being this, the IWC Pilot’s Watch “Tribute to 3705”. Here’s how it would have never come to be were it not for three keen rowers, an airfield in Croydon, England and a desperate bid to avoid insolvency.
Featured Watches:
IWC “Special Watch For Pilots”
IWC Fliegerchronograph Keramik 3705

This watch on Bark and Jack is like a chat with a friend in a pub. The same watch here feels like a class in Cambridge.
I’ll take both.
And on hodinkee like an ad
Anyone wanna take a stab at how Paul Pluta would approach it?
@@prlinding its a shitter

Miss those wrist shots we use to get in past.
The problem with this case material is clearly demonstrated on the older version at 6:00 o'clock... 5:01 on the video. Ceramic, and variations of, may be harder to scratch, but they do crack!
You weren't supposed to notice that
Nicely spotted !
The new material is titanium just the finish is similar to ceramic.
Not this one. It shouldn't crack.
there are multiple flaws on this watch. ie printing errors (ie check the black dots on the date '2')
This is the perfect Pilot's watch in every way. The size, the material, the color, the history and etc.
That hour hand is a little...scrotal
Lovely, prefer the non chrono with heart on the hour hand you showed. Gorgeous 😍
Cheers 👍🏻
I wish I was big enough to sport a “Big Pilot.” Love this iconic watch.
Pilots are not bigger people, they need oversized watches. It's part of the design.
Wether we're on the toolwatch or the magnificient vintage side of flieger watches, IWC are at the top. They're really good.
my favorite iwc's is the iwc double moon perpetual calendar blue dial and the yacht club white dial on the bracelet
Love the German language Day ring. If I got one of these, it would have to be the German home market version like this one. But at USD 12k, there isn't much chance of that!
Not a fan of pilot's watches but I enjoy listening to the backstories of all the watches he reviews.
My favourite watch is my Sinn 356, clearly in the same vein as this lovely looking piece. The Sinn doesn't have so many fancy specifications but it is only 1/10th the price of the IWC. Any other lovers of the Sinn chronograph here?
358 sa 👍
great piece. Sinn a great brand too
Yep Sinn make really great stuff. Underrated, which is good for plebs like me!
The day date window is telling me to die. :(
Today’s the day! ☠️😆
I DIE TWOO. ;(
It's "Dienstag" in German
misaligned
@@sushimshah2896 It's 'The" in German 😉
This watch is really making the rounds!
It’s a real shame he lost both of his hands.
Great way to start a Friday morning. Zorro and Watchfinder and Co. Can't go wrong there. Thank you
A big thank you for giving us this ever evolving time pieces for our viewing pleasure!! 👍👍
What a way to present this watch. Proper history and than to current model.
04:58 you read on the dial: IWC Schaffhausen DIE 2 Automatic. When looking at how they design those ugly pushers, it could be a prediction?
What is your opinion of the watches: Clerc, Titoni, PRIM, Pequignet and Horage .... ???
Is it me or is the vertical architecture of the 7750 coming out of the metaphorical penalty box and starting to look like a star forward again?
Bark and Jack reviewed this so having a special prototype is probably the wrong way to describe this... it sounds like back handed marketing to me
Just once, it would be nice to see who is narrating these wonderful videos. How about a tour of one of the Watchfinder sites?
Fortis F-41 watch review PLEASE
Love your videos!!
got one finally.
I was thinking about buying an iwc pilot today, I wake up and watchfinder posts this. Not good for my wallet
Do you have a review on the 389101 model?
Over 15mm thick 😬 looks cool though 👌🏼
Yup, IWC calls it in-house movement, but the basic architecture is still based on the 7750.
@@orbitalgolem91 why reinvent the wheel?
Great video. Great watch. Thanks.
Interesting timing on the release of this video. Good reminder that WatchFinder is owned by Richemont!
I was not aware of that... now Watchfinder makes perfect sense
Fantastic watch. Simple, historic and cool
Very, very nice, but out of range for most enthusiasts. I’ll stick with building up from my Citizen’s, Casio’s and Sieko’s. One day though......
Somehow I never seem to like IWC
Another cracking video...the history is fascinating!👍
I was expecting the soundtrack to XYZ to before England then keeping wagging its tail
I think IWC did a very poor job making a tribute, considering how beautiful the original model is. Bretiling did a much better job with the AVI REF. 765 1953 RE-EDITION
Given my IWC after care and servicing experience on a watch I bought from you, I would avoid this brand at all costs!
Yikes - care to elaborate any?
Yes please do!! I’ve been itching to get one from a local boutique but your comment spooks me 😬
@@orbitalgolem91 Firstly, my experience is in UK during Covid, so may not represent the norm. Customer communication for the London based service centre is handled by the IWC concierge service based in the Netherlands. IWC do not have modern repair tracking system and the concierge people don't appear to have a handle on much. There is no acknowledgment of them having received your watch. I have been advised the repair is completed, have paid the invoice but have not received my watch. Given the efficiency of say, the likes of Casio, IWC seem to be in another century. I also asked the concierge service about a strap replacement, that has been conveniently forgotten about. When asking for an update you get the response that finance colleagues are not at work to confirm payment. I have paid for my repair after being told it is ready to be sent back to me. The whole process has appeared very unprofessional from the start. I honestly think I will have to start legal proceedings to recover the watch. I expect a company like IWC to be completely honest with me. Communications with the concierge are vague at best. I was going to send the watch to Watchfinder for service, but my questions about about how to send it to them and insure it, all went unanswered. I won't be buying anymore high end watches if this is how the customer is treated. I also hope that this is one off and I've been unlucky.
@@raycollington4310 Sorry to hear - may I ask what was wrong with the watch? I've read numerous horror stories about the incompetence of Zenith's US-based service center on WatchUSeek forums and those turned me off that brand. Several owners have tried to bypass the US center sending watches directly to Switzerland. I'd suggest looking at the IWC-specific forum on WUS - there might be folks there that can help. Also draft a letter to IWC's CEO explaining the situation. Hoping it works out and please keep us posted. Based on your experience, I'll be steering clear of IWC. Consider a competent independent watchmaker for all work in the future, and steer clear of in-house movements for which indies can't get parts. IWC's "in-house" movements are based on the 7750 architecture, so watchmakers should be able to repair.
And shame on WatchFinder if they didn't respond to any of your after-sale inquiries for warranty work.
Hi Ray, could you get in touch with me at andrew.morgan@watchfinder.co.uk please?
I need this watch.
Love this channel
I knew it... these are Adrian's hands!!
The watch is stupendous, but the price is astronomical for what you are getting.....they are going to put themselves back into the same position they were in in the 80s.
That dial finish leaves a lot to be desired 😐
Hate that sawn off hour hand looks terrible 😒
Not a fan, great video as always.
what a beautiful piece!
I have to admit, that is quite the handsome watch. It would be nice to see slightly more crisp detail work like one would see from the likes of A. Lange & Söhne and a few others in the pantheon of legendary watchmakers, but then again, this watch is a fraction of the cost of some of the eye candy this silver-tongued devil dangles before our eyes in the form of sumptuous macro photography and calming voiceovers.
My credit card is breathing a sigh of relief that I am not likely ever to find myself alone with this man in a fine watch showroom. I shudder to consider what I would probably buy. This channel has introduced me to some amazing specimens which all have their own seemingly fascinating stories. Then again, this guy could read an article from Pig Farmers Monthly and make it sound compelling.
The 4K quality is superb. Please watch this on a proper large screen device.
IWC Great watch.
Hoping on a time to be more affordable though ;-)
Thanks WATCHFINDER
What happened to his voice?
The hour marker is just ugly.
I love this watch because its iconic but after having getting accustomed to wear a grand seiko like the kira Zuri or 9A high beat It’s so difficult for me now to look at these macros. These a worlds apart when it comes to finishing/specs and the gap is just getting bigger with time
Interesting story.
If you had to choose one watch different price tags, what would it be? Low budget, medium budget, meium price tag and expensive ?
you can buy this watch for about $9000.00 or you can use that money and put a down payment on a used Cessna....go figure.
Watchfinder & Co., I thought you were a pre-owned watch specialist. What are you doing reviewing/marketing a brand new re-issue of a 90s watch? ;) Nice historically inspired content as usually ) But I think there is a lot more to the pilots' watch development story, mate )
@C.W you're missing my point...
ah iwc....... a brand that puts selita movements in a watch and charge 10 times what it's worth....... however I do like their in-house movement watches and they can make beutiphull watches but putting selita movements in their watches is ridiculous!!!
I get that. I really love the look of the Mk XVIII, but a 4-5k watch with Sellita-based movement. I struggle to get past that......still though
I have a Mark XVIII heritage with sw 300 and a pilot chrono St Exupery with 7750 and I couldn't be happier. Pricing might be ridiculous, but quality stays and I can even do maintenance myself.
Worth mentioning I bought both watches second hand at about 60% retail.
I hear you. I have a Sellita Sw500 in my Sinn 356 but it is a whole lot less expensive than this watch. The Sinn doesn't have the fancy materials but it is a great watch nonetheless, at a fraction of the cost.
Any company is only going to invest heavily with in house movements on seriously expensive models. The Sellita movements on some models will have been adapted, but for this moderate price range, nobody should be expecting in house movements. Anyway, Sellita are mostly direct copies of ETA movements, but I bet nobody would moan about having an ETA movement as the engine.
@@JamesAlexander14 My Sinn 356 has the Sellita SW500 and I have owned it for two years now and wear it 6 days out of 7. I checked the time-keeping frequently when I first got it and occasionally since and it keeps to +3 seconds per day, every day without fail so far. Very solid timekeeping. I have no problem with this Sellita.
Love it
the hour hand is historically correct awful.
I wish IWC would spell it's name out in script as in the past, much more classy.
I wish people would spell its without an apostrophe
@@bravawatch I wish people, when referring to the word rather than using the word for its intended meaning - like 'its' in this case - would put it in quotation marks, or at least italicise it.
Is it my eyes but the day and date displays seem misaligned?
Why is no one else talking about all the specs on the date wheel! (5:25) that’s the kind of quality on a 12k watch?
That's the older version of the watch, not the newly released one.
Do you have a cold?
Thanks for another excellent Vid - Any chance you can feature more of my favourite watch maker - RADO
Greetings from northen Sweden and a fellow watch entusiast.
Just a few moments ago I was thinking about how I should go about to afford a Captain Cook,, then I saw your comment.
I think RADO is not getting the attention they deserve.
Stay safe and take care.

For some reason I got bored to death...
For some reason no one cares
Truncated hour hand is abomination. It's so wrong on all levels - aesthetic, ergonomic, stylistic.
3:38 Bill Gates? is that you?
the finishing and close up shots looks garbage on this, lmao
A boring 500usd looking watch selling for 12Kusd, I wonder how many idiots will but it.
"Tribute to a time when we still believed the circumcised hour hand was a good design choice." Yuck!
It's a good day when Watchfinder releases a new video.
I don't know about you all, but I've grown indifferent to IWC sadly. Their pilot's watches haven't brought anything new to the table in a while. Or am I missing something?
I agree with you. From my perspective, their aesthetic modifcations over the past few years have diverted away from my personal interests so I no longer even check out what they're up to. Super subjective, obviously, but I just also don't feel the IWExcitement anymore.
Iwc isn't about excitement.
Like, at all.
I have a couple and they are my most worn watches, by far.
They exsude understatment, refinement, history, adventure and manliness.
Not for everybody though, I get it.
@@marvinberwart Hey that's great.

2:14 thats so awful detail, what the hell?
Ugly watch
Another boring pilot watch from IWC 👍
These videos are getting so boring...I wanna listen about the watch and its specification...not the history of pilot watches
