In `71 I Saw Curved Air,YES, & ELP together 2 nights in a row at 1 venue in Detroit MI. The first time any of them came to America. The all were Incredible!!!!! And Still Are!!!!!
Hi, I replied a month ago to your comment obviously, but I only asked your age because I’m 21 this year and like you obsessed with Curved Air, in fact I’ve both seen them live and talked to Sonja Kristina online (She’s a very nice woman) I’m sorry if asking your age sounded weird (if it did) I just feel relieved knowing I’m not the only 21st Century born Curved Air nut and would love to discuss with other young fans, particularly across the pond (I live in Yorkshire, England) Sonja actually wants to carry on the band for at least another decade when she’ll be in her 80s!!!, Hopefully you’ll be able to see them in that time.
To mediacremyles. Well done you! You obviously instinctively know what you like! Good music, like classic cars, furniture, clothes etc. should transcend time, so everyone can enjoy fine things!
Stewart Copeland was the drummer for them in the mid-seventies before he saw Sting performing live with a local band after a gig CA had played in Newcastle. The two guys talked, exchanged phone numbers and a few months later, when both had moved down to London, set about forming The Police....and the rest is history.
*I have no idea why this was recommended to me. I've never heard of this band. But fuck me if I didn't love it. Going to look for more Curved Air songs*
I totally feel that. I was lucky to be there when my local FM station played Marie Antoinette on the Phantasmagoria album in '72. In a sense, it was recommended to 'me' by forces beyond my control, too. For you, the algorithm of the UA-cam edifice; for me, probably one dude who said 'this is growing on me, freaking me out even, it's pretty damn good' or something, as it happened. It rankles me when I hear there wasn't any good music in the '70s. RiDICulous.
I have followed Curved Air since the early days & know the guy now playing violin in the band. Sonja is still lovely & singing with Curved Air on tour & in studios. It was a pleasure to see them play & meet them at Glastonbury Festival a few years ago.
Ho saputo da poco della scomparsa di FRANCIS MONKMAN che si va ad aggiungere a quella di FLORIAN PILGHIMTON MIKSA entrambi membri fondatori dei Grandissimi CURVED AIR!!!!!!!! Rip FRANCIS Rip FLORIAN!!!!!!!!!
Bought the album back in '71, still have it. The instrumental part at the end really works in this live version , the violin sound is fabulous and the rhythm section is really cooking.
Takes me back to the very early 70's at Leeds Uni. Stones, Who, John Mayall, Colleseum, Clapton, Free and many more all played there. After that it was bigger venues. Great memories
One day at HS on the way to some class in early 72. Some kids yelled down the hallway. Haha, that longhair kid likes Curved Air!! They all had a good laugh.
When vocals end,Sonja, just dance around..and the bass player has a hidden talent..like taps derek smalls cucumber in foil.seriously,so good,Darryl ways haunting ending..
I must admit that I missed these guys until now. But it's never too late, right? Interestingly, I'm hearing stuff here that sounds familiar somehow. Beautiful violin work. Beyond what It's a Beautiful Day were doing at the time, at least to my ear. I like the orchestral, but primal sound of the instruments together. It makes me think about what ELO picked up on later. Thank you for posting.
This great and often overlooked and forgotten progressive rock act were sort of like the UK version of Jefferson Airplane in many ways. The lead singer was very skilled and the band extremely talented and skilled songwriters and musicians.
siempre en el brindis o sin el escucho esta extraordinaria interpretación y es cuando digo no es lo mismo oir, escuchar y ver. Gracias beat-club por haber presentado a magníficos músicos y preservarlos. GARACIAS GARACIAS GRACIAS
Thank you beatclub!!! Best quality video of this amazing band. You all don't understand, all we had to listen to was a grainy version of this performance so this is big
I remember Curved Air refusing to play Buxton festival September 1972. I don't really blame them, it was lashing down with rain and freezing cold when they were due on stage. Family went on early instead, seem to recall one of their amps got water in it and blew up. Anyway I never actually got to see Curved Air but did see Daryl Way with his own band Wolf after he left Curved Air, being replaced with Eddie Jobson I think.
@@markfinlayson2160 It was. I remember Uriah Heep's guitar man Mick Box was incredible showman and is still with the current line-up. Also, Ken Hensley was at the organ playing through a Leslie with it turned up to 11 and smoke was coming the Leslie and with the rotating horns in the Leslie the smoke was totally all over the auditorium. I would guess today it would be panic but then the crowd roared with delight.
It's funny how some music actually has a psychedelic sound. I'm not just talking about the imagery. You can listen to something and it gives you that feeling. If you know what I mean you know.

@@ex-scientia4234 I have no nostalgia only heard of CA for years but never actually heard, I expected early Rush for some reason so not what I expected at all.
I stared at her from the front row of Dunstable Civic when I was sixteen. Ten years after, I met her working at a record store in London. The boss didn't half fancy her, so when people brought in Curved Air records to sell, we had to overestimate their value.

Sounds good,I.ve seen Yes.
Must have been a brilliant set to hear.
That's amazing.
I saw them in Brighton UK in the early 70's. The best experience ever, in watching a live performance.
RIP great keyboard player Francis Monkman.
His rendition of Gavotte on Sky2 is 2nd to none.
I only discovered him from sky and sky2 but didn't realise that he was a mean lead guitarist as well, Genius. R.I.P ❤
Who knew some 14 year old kid from suburban New Jersey would find this prog rock band from the 70s and be absolutely obsessed?
Are you talking about when this song originally came out? Or are you 14 now?
they are still playing & still great.

Same, sounds alot like what's her name from Heart.
@@reducecotwo Ann Wilson.
Ande how about Annie Haslam and the Renn Band!!
Sonja's singing here is much closer to Grace Slick than to Ann Wilson... Stellar work regardless
I thought it was a guy singing at first. Then I watched there performance^^
Muito linda a música e a voz da cantora.
Saw them live in Nottingham in 71, some amazing stuff, some so so. Ahead of their time.
Bought the album back in '71, still have it. The instrumental part at the end really works in this live version , the violin sound is fabulous and the rhythm section is really cooking.
Yeah, it turns into major & minor seventh chordal heaven, for sure.
I love these guys, and I had a tremendous crush on Sonja Christina.
Takes me back to the very early 70's at Leeds Uni. Stones, Who, John Mayall, Colleseum, Clapton, Free and many more all played there. After that it was bigger venues. Great memories
Chills. Genius composition. The rather aggressive, cold vocal opening just makes the pastoral violin melody progression that much more sublime.
Curved Air were brilliant!
Sonia's tenor voice is chilling like a vein of ice through this song's lush soundscape.
Just another inverted lead singer
Spectacular violen solo ending!!

Was lucky enough to see this fabulous band on Middlesbrough Town Hall back in 1971. Amazing concert and still have my LP.
Me too.
Not sure why UA-cam decided I needed to see these Beat Club videos, but I'm loving them anyway
Saw them in Rochester (UK, that is) in 1972 and then again in Liverpool in 2018ish...still unbelievable.
More bands like this, please.
Great stuff, Curved Air and Family used to be my favourite bands
THE VERY BEST SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember seeing the band several times in the early 70s on the London circuit, Goldsmiths College being one venue.
Love this song , the woman is cool!

Saw them in Frankfurt, Germany in 72, in a club just before I got out of the army. Wonderful
Unique sound, part of my youth, saw them play live in London 71✨
