  • Making a battery powered trailer dolly.
    To move our trailers in and out of tight buildings that would be very difficult with a vehicle.

    Would have been awesome to see how it works with the boat on it 🤷

      I made it for a friend and have been bugging then to share a video; unfortunately no luck. Sorry. However they are happy with how it works.

    Nicely done! How did you decide on the sprocket size and teeth to know how fast the unit will travel at when the motor is engaged? And where would one purchase these? Are they motorcycle parts?

    • @daveprototype6079

      motor rpm / main sprocket to drive sprocket; there is a calculator you can use
      parts are from on line or princess auto nothing special as its all low rpm and sprreds

    Working on a similar project yet different. Anyway, what tooth count ratio did you use? Did you have to experiment different counts or the 1st one worked fine? Where did you purchase said chain/sprockets, what was their original application?
    Hope to hear back on this! Thx

      @@daveprototype6079 So it's roughly 2 to one. If one wanted more power, switch the small gear to around 14 teeth. It looks like a stout design, Well done Sir.

    Nice elegant design. Much cleaner than others. All of these designs, however, including the commercial ones have a flaw. When pulling a heavy boat in softer ground or lawn, there is a lot of resistance from the trailer and the pull is from the ball, at the top of the jack. This tends to cause the front (caster end) to rise up when moving with caster end facing forward. In many cases the rise is significant, can't be contained by pressing down on the handle and can even be dangerous. I wish you had shown it in action. Also one of your comments "working on weight distribution" hints that you may have faced that problem too.

      Yes heavy loads must be moved carefully; it has been modified to be positrack 100% helps with traction
      Working on a new one with gas engine for bigger boats/trailers

    Instead of having a dead wheel, I wonder if will be better having a motor for each wheel independently, you can turn on only one of the motors for turning. and double the power for each motor have less stress. Can you tell me where you get all the parts?

    • @daveprototype6079
      @daveprototype6079  2 роки тому

      I ended up making it two wheel drive for traction; yes independent motors would be better. Most of the parts came from Princess Auto
      Cheers

    All part list, in detail. Also all section work in detail , such as bushing work, welding sprocket to rod, transforming from winch to power motor make really good video.

    Great Job Dave! I was thinking how would I make an electric pusher and what could I use as a drive system, electric winch perfect! adding a bottle jack another great idea with lots of potential! No tell the truth how does well does it work? seems like it is good when you have to start somthing rolling or going up a grade but if you are on flat surface are there times you just would rather push since it would be faster? does it pay to add a neutral to the drive if you could do it easily? Ha Ha and i you want to over engineer it you can ad a regenerative battery charger when going down hill.....kidding! Great job!

      Works great; winch has a nutral by disengaging drive; but when moving heavy things (not empty trailer, boat) power is the way to go
      cheers

    How did this do moving your boat? I have a 21 foot camper trailer that I need to be able to move around. Tight drive with inclines to negotiate.

    For my 10000 job trailer, what ibs winch be used??

    • @daveprototype6079
      @daveprototype6079  2 роки тому

      I would think a 5000lb winch would be the minimum I would use; you might end up using two one for each wheel depending what terrain your on

    What is the heaviest trailer that you pulled around? Is the 2500 lb winch strong enough to handle 6000 lb trailer

    • @daveprototype6079
      @daveprototype6079  4 роки тому

      It pulls around 2500 lbs no problem, winches are strong but this was a cheap one. I would use a heavier frame and winch for larger loads.
