I bought a used quad to move the boats around my property, a 450 polaris with a nice 5 inch lift reciver for 25 bucks. You could ha e also bought a nice used ride on mower with a hitch for 400 to 600 bucks
Plywood or rubber mats to make easy movements on gravel.
Morning, you could use lawn tractor tires on the back to help with traction. I use a small lawn tractor to move my trailers around in my yard, an ideal that may help. Hope you have a good day and stay safe.
I was going to suggest a riding mower. My uncle rigged a hitch on his JD zero turn and he moves his jon and BBQ pit all around his property with ease
Use the remote. Make both tires welded to the axle. Also make sure the chain is tight or it will skip going up hills. I love it. I need to get off my ass and make my version 2.
Thank you, Chris! What are you talking about? Text me with the link
Great idea using a winch for a motor. For traction use snow blower tires.
Try golf cart rims/tires. They are pretty wide and may help.
Mad props to you for taking this on. I need one of these pretty bad. Might need to try and create one as well.
Hey man!
This was really good and gave me some great ideas! Thanks so much for posting! I am gonna start collecting parts next week and get on this!
Dude, I love it!
Pretty sweet build
put a lever on the tee handle, one side for forward and the other for reverse
You need more weight on there in order for to get more grip in the gravel so build like a seat that way you can put your body weight on it and it'll move a lot easier then when you need to steer you can turn your handle around and steer
You can simply use bigger wheels, no reason to use $5.99 harbor fright wheels, use some 13in car wheels. I suggest getting an old riding mower and strip it down, there is another guy who did that and it works great. You can get blown motor riding mowers for free or close to it.
Great 💡
Man I wish I could head and get that bomb too or have my boat redone by you guys but I'm handicap and it's hard for me to get in and out of my boat I have a 16 ft aluminum bass boat it's hard for me to load unload by myself I was in a car accident in 2019 left me handicap you guys do great work and I've learned a lot from your Channel thank you for posting
Need this for the Tracker would save my back! Lol
Could I use one of those 4 tire mobile scooter powered by lithium battery? Maybe weld a ball attachment or add a manual trolley to back?
Yeah. This could be done way better.
Awesome. Change your switch out to a double pole double throw switch that is on-off-on. Easy to wire. Add some water to the wheels for more weight and traction. And use both wheels as drive wheels. But may make steering harder.
Also can fill frame with bb’s/lead/ etc for weight. Small tires are gonna sink in soft ground anyway regardless of what you use.
I wouldn't have even bothered with trying to drive the wheels. Just pound in a few strategically placed fenceposts and use the winch as a winch!
Yes that's probably what I would do too (because there's no way I could build this) but you've gotta admit the motorized dolly is pretty freakin cool. Also it's going to get complicated trying to move out of the shop then park it in another location when you need to get the truck in and out of the shop.
Also a possibility
The one I built performed better on heavier boats. On smaller boats it couldn't get enough traction. I thought about redesigning it with a small tractor seat.
I see. If I get the concept down good, We can possibly move toward making a rideable tractor setup.
Any updates? I need something like this for my to put my boat in storage
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 some larger gravel that compacts more it'll probably move right along
Im hoping
How do you think it would work on the slope of a boat ramp (or slipway as we say here in the UK) Do you think the winch drive would work as a brake?
There’s not enough weight in the dolly to stop a boat on a incline
You should’ve made a tracked version of this. I made one for an agricultural mechanic show last year. It would 100% solve your traction issue
Where do I even find tracks for something like that?
@@TinyBoatNationatv track kits are on Amazon that includes axel etc. Around $300
What have you used for the motor? Is it a winch motor. Thanks
Yes from harbor freight
16:57 I thought you built it that way so you could either steer while standing and walking or add more weight over the tires and steer while you stand on it. Then you said it was for storage and I was like yeah that works to lol
Could add some foot pads and say it was supposed to be like that. More weight= better traction
Also my atv and dirtbike days say add a chain tensioner and thoughts on shroud when the Chain does come off they are more of a pain than they are worth
Good advice!
Clever man.
Thanks!
If the solid tire was spinning on the rim couldn't you attach an abrasive inside the rim for internal traction or even put some studs thru the rim into the tire?
I thought about it but in the end, those tires were not sufficient for torque.
Possibly modify riding lawnmower wheels, definitely be more traction
change the drive tire to a wider and knobby one
add an idler for the chain
Do you have a tire recommendation?
I just can’t….. it’s a WINCH, a WENCH services you while getting you a beer.
Maybe some golf cart wheels would be a lot wider and more traction ?
Good idea! I’ll look into it.
I was thinking ATV wheels like on the kid version. I think they're 80cc ATV anyway a scaled down three wheeler. In fact why couldn't you modify a three wheeler or four wheeler with an electric motor conversion? Or heck, just buy a four wheeler and attach a ball hitch.
Absolutely fun inventing things cool build. My friend and came out of the water after scuba diving and lit cigarettes some smarmy asshole told us we can't do scuba as a smoker. Well dude we are and did. We then built a pipe so we can smoke while scuba diving works too 100 feet. It's fun inventing shit
Lol that should be a huge seller!
You should add a cradle for the controller on the handle
Good call
Can you stand on it for traction? If so, you could put a seat on it and drive it.
Yeah probably. I need to fix a few things before I do that.
Now you can plow the garden too!
Can it push pull your toy hauler?
No 😂 it could barely handle a bigger boat
Respect. Would you please make one for me and ship to the UK? By the time I had all the tools to build this I’d spend $10k.
If you want it, I’ll ship it to you.
Mount the remote to the handle bar and run it with your thumb? Maybe?
That is the plan
@@TinyBoatNation You guys do a lot to help the rest of us in figuring stuff out. Don't know how you find time to fish!!
I built a hitch for my riding mower out of some scrap metal I had in my garage. Pulls my center consul around my yard no problem
I going to win it ❤️✝️❤️✝️❤️
Also it's not a dolly it a tug. Just a FYI
What’s the difference?
@@TinyBoatNation a tug is powered
What you built is cooler than you thought. Great stuff I know it will evolve in time too improve. My thinking is bigger tires but I am not there. just in the stands shouting. Keep up the great work
Hmmm seems like semantics but okay. Call it a tug and argue with everyone you meet LoL
@@scott.wallace8625 how about knobby tires or tractor tires like on a big Troy built tiller? Actually I made something similar to this with my Troy built to haul my jon boat and canoe to the lakes and river in my property. It was a big property with lots of gravel holes but the paths were made so a truck couldn't get in there (intentionally done to keep the riff raff out as they'd just cut a chain or knock down a gate.) Also pulled logs out of the swamp with it. Very versatile as you could drop the tiller and attach a hitch and it had reverse and two forward speeds with a 15 HP Kohler. Best tool I ever owned.
I found NO need for this kind of trailer. You have already got a trailer and a truck.
sir you SERIOUSLY need to show this to Mike Patey and his brother....thank me later lol great job!!!!
