I'm a Federer fan with respect to Djokovic and Nadal and I was worried I wouldn't like tennis when all 3 are done but Alcaraz is definitely a reason to keep following.

nadal will not win many matches from here, he is well past it and in decline. Should retire gracefully.
Finally we saw how it would look like if Nadal was playing right handed version of himself. It was satisfying to watch. And that last point, that passing shot. Thats the shot that marked Nadal’s carrer. It was symbolic end of one era and the begining of new one. Thats life, thats reality, thats… TIME. What is life but just a season.

Nadal is up to his level. The problem is that other players are there also and they are keeping up with him.
Nasal is definitely not at his level. You look at that match point loss and you will realize that final forehand is not even close to any good level. He is very out of form and practice

You can see Nadal loves the kid he always seems a little pissed of after a lost match which is completely ok and probably one of the reasons why he arguably is the goat. But today you can see he was smiling even after a loss. Nadal is 35 and when he finishes his career Alcaraz will be still very young it would be so dope to see Nadal in Alcarazes box one day.

Forget Medvedev, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Thiem and all other talented players! Carlos has to be my favourite amongst all. He reminds me of young Rafa and Federer. He has the ability to pick the ball early like Roger and he has the athleticism of Rafa! I don’t wanna jinx it, but I wanna see him win many majors in future.
Love Alcaraz, but if Thiem wasn't injured, he would still be a fierce compettitor. Nonetheless Alcaraz is the future of tennis.
@@hamzashaker4390 agreed, but I’ve always felt that it is very difficult to win grand slams having a single handed backhand. Earlier we used to have faster courts which helped players like Federer. Tennis nowadays has become a baseline game. You don’t see serve and volleys much, which is a shame.

Agreed. Even if Alcaraz doesn’t become the next goat or doesn’t win 20+ slams, I still prefer watching him over the big 3 as he’s like a hybrid of all of them. Imagine creating a tennis player in a lab giving him the best of Roger, the best of Rafa, and the best of Nole, that’s Alcaraz! And this is the best thing for tennis that we could of hoped for with Rafa’s days being numbered, and Nole becoming more injury prone as well now, so I am so happy Alcaraz has filled in the void of the big 3.

The torch could only be passed at Paris. Rafa has lost in Madrid in the last 5 years and won the RG in 4 of them. This is his weakest clay tournament.

I've never seen the crowd behind anyone else other than Rafa in Madrid but Alcaraz is something special.
This boy will be a legend, I say it now and you will see in the future everything he will achieve, I am sure many things, he will be number 1, not only because of the talent he has, but because of how he knows how to handle the complicated moments that are presented to him, any young player after the fall would have collapsed, he manages to turn him around in front of one of the best in history such as rafa, this boy is golden and will go far. I followed him since before he was so recognized and I already saw very good things in him, one of my favorite players without a doubt.

The confidence that Alcaraz has in the second set to rest his ankle ( I think ) and beat the king of clay in the 3rd is mind boggling.
Yes, he thinks quickly the right move, whether it is a drop or a backhand valley down the line or a forehand valley with great speed, accuracy and angle. This guy is a genius.

Alcaraz is the first true superstar I’ve been able to see from the start of his ATP career. It doesn’t matter to me if he never hits #1 or wins any grand slams although I think it’s likely he does become #1 & win many grand slams if he continues to play like this & improve even. He could still be growing for heavens’ sake. 😂💪

What's amazing about Carlitos is not only how incredibly great a player he is in terms of skill and intelligence, but how fast he is able to mentally recover from major setbacks. A lot of people probably counted him out after he fell and hurt his ankle and hand at the beginning of the second set. But after he lost badly in the second set, he was able to put all that behind him, hit the reset button, and come back and overwhelm Rafa with some of his best tennis.
This kid is absolute magic! To be able to watch his record-breaking development in real time is a true privilege. I have no doubt in my mind that he's going to be the world number 1 in no time, as long as injuries and other extraneous factors don't get in the way.

I agree with every point. As a Nadal fan it is my opinion that Alcaraz has some of the same inner qualities as Rafa such as the one you emphasized-mental strength. He has the mindset to quickly recover from a quasi-disaster or an almost hopeless two sets down/love 40 in the third situation and then from somewhere inside the WILL to fight is stirred up as if there is no such thing as impossible. Years ago I was a Connors fan for the very same reason-the never-say-die trait. I quit watching tennis for years when Jimmy quit until I saw Nadal play a few matches. I was feeling a little like the other person here who commented he/she feared the retirements of the Big Three. Would there be anyone 🤔 to keep them interested/fascinated/excited to keep watching? Suddenly, Carlitos arrives on the scene bringing all the gifts/skill/character we needed and hope is restored. 😎
What an awesome moment it was in those last few points by Alcaraz! Camera shutters were rolling. And you could feel history unfolding for this exciting young yet humble player.

Alcaraz looks to be a generational talent. I've had my eye on him for a while but the explosive growth in his game over the last year is astounding. However, before labeling him a potential GOAT, let's let him win his first Grand Slam!
For Nadal, this is not a total loss by any means. He got in some quality tennis, looks to have no ill effects from the rib injury and his form, while not close to his A prime game, looks good given the circumstances.
The main struggle that I can see, apart from the obvious rust, is the inability to consistently get spin and depth with the usual pace (the usual Nadal benchmark) which enables opponents to play into the court and go on offense with the short ball. Really struggled against Goffin and Alcaraz as well in this regard.
All in all, Nadal looks to be on the right trajectory and with the slower, higher bouncing courts of the Italian and French Opens ahead, he seems to be on the right track. Time will tell.
I like nadal but times change when the new guys get at u they get at you we get the injury but Rafa is the king of clay to beat him especially at an early age is crazy in its self give credit where it's due

You legit just made another excuse, his rib, the surface, etc. these guys are the best in the world and Nadal has been on tour a LOT longer than Carlos, so obviously on paper he should be a better player, but Carlos just proved that he can beat Nadal and in all honesty, he looks stronger than him as of right now too.

I really hope that players like Sinner don’t fade away. I want at least two or more rookies going in to be a competition to each other and win multiple majors. I don’t want to see Alcaraz being the only one who dominates after Nadal and Djokovic retire.

I LOVE the smile that Rafa had for Alcaraz at the end - pride and respect and joy because if you love tennis, and what you do, it’s only a joy to see the new talent emerge into the world to have it’s moment. Well to be honest if you were paying attention to the match or the highlights, you should be able to link 1 and 1 together and realise, obviously he's not talking about nadal celebrating Alcaraz falling but rather the point

Yeah it's most likely not a serious injury because he started playing much better in the third. Hopefully he's 100% against Djokovic because I want to see a close battle.

It results in variety, which keeps his rivals guessing. Most players nowadays are quite predictable, but Alcaraz improvises at ease. When he realised that when he was going for a dropshot a hit it down the line, Nadal was always there to half volley it very quickly to the open court, Carlos would fake he'd do that but would actually hit a slice crosscourt, short or long, but wrong footing Nadal.

This kid sprained his ankle and still went on to win this match, beat Djokovic and take the title! Who else in the game could manage that? Only Alcaraz, that’s who!👏🏾🎾

Not a single nerve in the kid's entire body. 19 years old, had a pretty bad second set against the undisputed king of clay, refused to fall apart, found yet another gear in the third. Knows when to go for the big winners and when to misdirect and drop shot, and his hands at the net are astonishing. People are comparing him to Rafa because of the athleticism and spin, but his sheer genius of shotmaking reminds me more of Roger. That forehand slice he conjured up at 2:38 was as impressive as any of the ripping cross court winners. What a talent.

Well carlos did say last year that his gamestyle is more like Federer. The dude is watching a lot of youtube videos and taking notes from each and every player. He slides like djokovic and then does the banana shots like Rafa.

Great win for Carlos who just turned 19 on Cinco de Mayo! Best player since the Big 3 and future No. 1. Carlos is a pleasure to watch. The ankle didn’t bother him much in the third set but it could swell up before his match against Novak tomorrow. Lots of ice-packs today/tonight. Rafa had 3 solid matches after not playing competitively for 6 weeks. Good momentum going into Rome next week and ultimately preparation for Roland Garros starting on May 22nd.

Seriously, Alcaraz looked so down and out of that point when he was pulled wide by Nadal's forehand, and he hit a slice up. He really should have lost that point but Nadal hit a poor forehand into the open court and allowed him back in.
