In MoS he was literally Superman for like a few weeks. It was the first fight he ever fought. Of course, things would be destroyed and people will die when two powerful beings were fighting each other.
@AdeodatusX that isn't exactly a surprise, given that Snyder, like most Ayn Rand fanatics, is a true believer in Great Man Theory - which was perhaps most succinctly articulated by the Green Goblin in Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man film: "There are eight million people in [New York City], and those teeming masses exist for the sole purpose of lifting the few exceptional people onto their shoulders." Such an elitist mentality/ideology is if anything _more_ conservative than a more conscientious alternative; given that social hierarchy, and the valuing of certain lives over others, is what conservatism fundamentally seeks to conserve. 😒 If you didn't care about "collateral damage" during Bush's invasion of Iraq, why would you care more about it here, in a work of fiction?
@@flappytrap1238 ''Of course, things would be destroyed and people will die when two powerful beings were fighting each other.'' That philosophy is evil and doesn't represent Superman at all. You're justifying innocent people dying for the sake of a better world? What if that innocent person is you? That doesn't even qualify as a hero, but more a anti hero which Superman isn't. The Bible says ''honor all'' The Bible says ''Do unto others as you would like to be done unto you'' The Bible says ''do not murder''. The Bible says '' Love thy neighbor as thyself''. From his early days as the son of the Count of Monte Cristo, to playing Superman, and even crushing it as Geralt in The Witcher, he’s proven he’s got range. Oh, and don’t forget his awesome role in Mission: Impossible - Fallout! On top of all that, he’s a huge nerd and a gamer-just like a lot of us. He’s real, down-to-earth, and brings a ton of passion to everything he does. He definitely deserves more respect than just being the subject of criticism... And honestly, this new Superman looks amazing! It’s totally bringing back those nostalgic childhood vibes, right? Henry Cavill, though, has also been a great example of masculinity. He’s kind to his fans, and the way he carries himself makes us men feel good about being men."
There was nothing Conservative about the Snyder version of Superman. It was a deconstruction of the traditional values we conservatives hold dear. Given the postmodernism inherent to Snyder’s take, I’d say his Superman is the most left-wing take ever.
Dude it was never a deconstruction, it always held Superman to the values he was written to be, it just pushed the story to a new level of depth that most smooth brains can’t handle apparently.

YOU nailed it. This trailler only brought something inside me that I can't explain. Even the idea of a silly dog made me smile. WE WON. Well....almost. I am Canadian and Trudeau is still here.
We are winning. But I'm sure these scenes were filmed months ago. Besides, it's James Gunn. Based on his previous superhero films, and despite him being on the left, the odds were always in favor of this being at least a decent Superman film.
Superman is portrayed in this film exactly as he should be, a beacon of hope that is less of a flying brick but instead a shoulder you can cry on and fights for a better future. (Guys Superman would unironically be one of the most progressive people out there)
Jidom......You must be VERY young because we have been subjected to Marxist propaganda and insulting "messaging" FOR YEARS now to the degree that millions of people no longer watch TV, fake news, OR the truly, badly done "movies", pumping out bizarre and abnormal behaviours. Go woke - go broke. We will see if these people can suddenly start doing good movies that people like. Time will tell.
Keep in mind, these were the highlights. Effects were bad, but cool in 1979. These days, I have no expectations of special effects, I just want a good story.
I live in Cleveland and wandered around all summer looking for Superman Easter eggs. Now I'm sitting here watching the trailer looking for Cleveland Easter eggs. The scene where the skyscraper is falling over the bridge I paused it. You can see downtown on the left, The Flats and all the bridges were left completely untouched and then in the distance you can see the east side completely covered up by CGI with a shining beautiful city. It struck me in a way I didn't expect. Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster grew up on the east side. It's where they came up with the idea of Superman, back when Cleveland was one of the fastest growing cities in the world and it managed to inspire that image of Metropolis. Then bad policy, corruption, riots and crime gutted the city like a fish and we never recovered. My dad also grew up on the Eastside when it went bad. He had a rough go of it but managed to break free of the generational weight of poverty and got us out. Now I'm back here because I fumbled the catch. I can actually see where my apartment is through the CGI. It's very surreal and emotional in a way I didn't expect. I'm glad they brought it home. It feels like a homage... Or maybe a funeral. I just know it makes me want things to be better.
@utubecustomer0099805 thanks. He definitely seemed to lean into the look of Cleveland and embrace it. A lot of movies are shot here and they always try to mask it and make it look like New York or elsewhere. But he's got Hawkgirl circling Tower City, The Flats, Public Square all front and center. It's refreshing for a local. The scene where he's floating with Lois was shot in The Arcade. It was built in the late 1800s and was one of the first indoor shopping centers in the country and made us a world travel destination. It would have been in its heyday when Shuster and Siegel were growing up. If you pause the scene with the falling tower, the skyscrapers way in the distance on the left are probably placed about where the Cleveland Clinic is. Beyond that is East Cleveland where my dad was raised. Single mom with three boys living with grandparents in a two bedroom house in a blue collar neighborhood. It's so bad there now, we went back once so he could get a little closure. Most of his block was burned down. Looks like a war zone. He cried. If you want to see what it looks like now Roca News just did a little expose on it, but The Serial Podcast really digs into the rampant corruption. A friend of mine lives over there and told me he saw police finally running patrols and stopping cars for the first time in years. A couple weeks later there was a news story that a bunch of cops were running a robbery gang, pulling people over, taking all their stuff and then leaving. It's just so sad.
Explain how you win pop culture here with this movie about Superman? This is a character that stands for hope in the face of struggle. He helps innocent people regardless of race, how they identify themselves, or their sexuality. He faces off against tyrannical oppressive forces and his main antagonist is an egotistical, cold and cruel republican 1 percenter businessman. All of this written and directed by a hugely successful liberal. So I understand confusion is a pretty common state of being for you lot but I just wanted to clarify things here.
Wow - the Marxist trolls are here already, and marching in lock-step...... here we go...Superman fighting a Republican... cold and cruel.... a 1 percenter businessman. You are slipping in a bit of anti-Republican propaganda there, you just can't help yourself. Is that your "narrative"? Also a bit of the deviant crap.... regardless of "s*xuality" and "indentity". You are so indoctrinated. Try to enjoy the film instead of using it to push pet political peeves. That has been the whole problem with the Left, you need to learn to enjoy life as it really is.
Never thought the guy who wrote "Tromeo and Juliet" would end up directing a Superman movie. I don't think we have a metric for how much of a turn around that is. A "180" just doesn't capture it.
5:38 Lmfao really that’s all this dude has to say about the movie. who is this guy? Zero substantive commentary, admits he knows nothing about comic books, says he won’t watch it, goes straight to bitching about politics? Funny.
Not everybody is still into kid's comics - I loved comics for years, also liked sci-fi books, people thought that was a weird kind of thing. The guy, Michael, gave a casual look at a movie, as he said he would, because he is not into Superman as an adult. Normal people are just relieved to not have a trany Superman - say no more....lol. I hope the movie fulfills your longings. Donald Trump is my real life Superman - I'll go with that hope. Regards.
It really seems like a riff on a comic storyline called Kingdom Come. Where the new generation of heroes is calloused and edgy but face something they can't overcome, and the 'old' heroes have to return and show them what being a real hero is. If Gunn pulls that off, this movie is going to be genuinely amazing.
I heard that’s kind of what the story is, but Superman is the new guy on the scene instead of the old guard coming back. Maybe some silver age Superman stuff thrown in too.
Superman and Lois also had a very good portrayal of both Clark and Superman in Tyler Hoechlin. I hope the new guy is as skilled as he was in portraying a capable father and hero.
It's kind of hilarious having Michael "react" to something he's so not into, and somehow turns it into "We Won!" 😂 Move over, film critics! It's Michael "I don't know what Henry Cavill looks like" Knowles, ladies and gents! ❤
James Gunn's Guardians of the galaxy has been one of the most based movie franchise that came out of Disney. So I'm looking forward for this one. My only gripe is, there seems to be a lot going on for it's first go.
Walsh: "this looks terrible because grown conservative men and women shouldn't waste their time with franchsws made for children. 0/10 stars, minus 2 points for being demonic" 😂😂😂
If you've read the Superman from the New 52 on, it's entirely possible to get Henry Cavill back if James Gunn is using some of the newer stuff in this as well. Then again, this new Superman has tights.
LOL NOBODY criticized the Nolan/Snyder movies for being conservative. Was Amy Adams not pretty? Superman wasn't bad in Man of Steel. This is pure, 100% conservative brain rot.
It wasn’t that those that the Snyder versions were conservative, it’s because they were written like shit and didn’t even act like their characters. Zack Snyder doesn’t like Superman or Batman, he likes an idea of them that he has but that idea isn’t their characters. I don’t hate Zack Snyder or anything I actually really like a few of his movies it’s just he isn’t great with those characters.
Maybe it's just me, but I think this movie might focus on Superman being the Man part of his name. With all the other heroes present, I think the moral of the story is "You are not alone" and "You don't have to take the world on your shoulders. Let us help you." The movie then ends with Clark having a nice night out with Lois because he can finally trust the other heroes enough to take care of the Monster he can see outside the window while he takes care of her personal life.
Nope, everything he creates is a glorified fart joke, dude is a teenage edgelord parading as an artist. This may be the exception but it’s screaming if the force awakens, all spectacle no substance.
Despite how good this movie might wind up being, I'm still going to wait until I can stream it if I ever do watch it because movie tickets these days require a second mortgage.
I am afraid that this may be one of those instances where the trailer portrays a seemingly normal and traditional story only for the actual movie and story to be woke and “reimagined” kind of like how the Joker sequel was just a gay musical with joker getting raped in prison.
Jesus Christ died for your sins on the cross. Repent and believe in him or you will be separated from God The Father for all eternity and face hell forever, for all eternity, never ending.
Don’t see how in any real sense? This is a character created by socialists and a movie directed by a known leftist. A good Superman movie doesn’t mean any political side won. That’s stupid. Beyond stupid.
I hate the “Goth” Superman uniform. This legend of Comics doesn’t need “modernization.” It’s his integrity as well as his superpowers that brought popularity. Classic stories don’t need change because they are timeless.
With everyone reacting to the trailer now, as a Catholic comics geek, I am now awaiting for Fr. Mike Schmitz's reaction/analysis being the DC/Superman fan that he is 😂
Superman is a superhero in the purest sense. The actor himself advocated for Superman wearing bright colors and the undies over it (the suit his mom made in comics) because he wanted to look friendly enough to all civilians, including kids, he was saving! ❤️ 🇺🇸
James Gunn is certainly on the left. But from watching his previous superhero movies (Guardians trilogy, The Suicide Squad), he appears to actually care more about making a great film and doing justice to the source material than about pushing a narrative. Also, I think he's an actual comic book fan. Which who we want making superhero comic book movies.

Huge comic book fan, with Superman being my all time favorite. I still believe that Reeve is the quintessential Superman for being able to convincingly play 2 "different" people. That said, I love watching MOST comic book movies, and give every new actor a chance. I really liked Henry Cavill, and I was sad to see him go, but I'm going to give David a chance. Seeing him injured on a fall makes me hope this isn't some type of John Byrne type Superman, but I'm sure there's another explanation. However, it's awesome to see Guy Gardner just like he looks in the comics from the 90's.

I honestly wasn't that interested until Krypto appeared. When I was six in 1977, I named my first dog Krypto because I loved Krypto in the comics.

Zack snyders superman wasn't criticized for being conservative lol. It's because he didn't care for civilian life and was careless when fighting.
In MoS he was literally Superman for like a few weeks. It was the first fight he ever fought. Of course, things would be destroyed and people will die when two powerful beings were fighting each other.
@AdeodatusX that isn't exactly a surprise, given that Snyder, like most Ayn Rand fanatics, is a true believer in Great Man Theory - which was perhaps most succinctly articulated by the Green Goblin in Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man film:
"There are eight million people in [New York City], and those teeming masses exist for the sole purpose of lifting the few exceptional people onto their shoulders."
Such an elitist mentality/ideology is if anything _more_ conservative than a more conscientious alternative; given that social hierarchy, and the valuing of certain lives over others, is what conservatism fundamentally seeks to conserve. 😒
If you didn't care about "collateral damage" during Bush's invasion of Iraq, why would you care more about it here, in a work of fiction?
He was literally saving people throughout the whole BvS film

There was nothing Conservative about the Snyder version of Superman. It was a deconstruction of the traditional values we conservatives hold dear. Given the postmodernism inherent to Snyder’s take, I’d say his Superman is the most left-wing take ever.

But not for long!!!

Yeah the effects were yikes 😬
You're reply is a story in itself. Well done. I wonder if J. Gunn was conscience of all these details during production. Hope so.
And the biggest confusion of all.... Superman isn't an American citizen.

It really seems like a riff on a comic storyline called Kingdom Come.
