“Donald and Douglas spoke pungently in Scots.” So they cussed out Oliver is what you’re saying.

I’m actually surprised there was never a story where the other engines got fed up of the twins talking in Scotts behind there back so they go to a Scotsman to translate for them only to find out yes the twins do actually love colourful language

this original story is so much better than the TV adaptation. the crash is much more graphic, Oliver does not get off easy, and we have the Small Railway Engines.

One of my favorite aspects of the railway series is how well the characters' personalities and backstories coincide with their prototypes. It makes perfect sense that a great western autotank would have little experience hauling unfitted goods trains. I would imagine his limited experience with trucks would have mainly included light shunting and partially fitted mixed trains. He must have had some experience with trucks, befriending a brakevan and all though.

Same here! I particularly like the way it was done on the Talyllyn Railway, and the various misadventures there (even though Awdry pinned his own guard mistake on 'Edward Thomas'!)

I love this version of this story. Been to Didcot and rode behind Oliver’s real life counterpart. Isabel and Dulcie would have made good characters for The TV Series.

In all fairness, if that went ahead, the Arlesdale system would be produced using TT gauge track thus representing a 15in gauge system.

If Oliver had come along a decade earlier Gordon, James and Henry would’ve been nowhere near as friendly as they were here.

Some of you may think that Donald and Douglas, and The Fat Controller were rather hard on Oliver in this episode, while the TV version, "Oliver Owns Up," had it more soft. But I, myself, don't at all see them as that hard in this version. Maybe out of character, I will say, but still, they weren't THAT hard here is how I see it.

I prefer this over Oliver Owns Up any day. The Fat Controller and the Scottish twins were way too soft on Oliver in the adaptation. This will always be better than the TV episode.

No offense, but the TV episode is better then this, as Sir Topham Hatt and Donald and Douglas were really out-of-character in the book version, they blamed Oliver for something that was clearly not Oliver's fault, they should have blamed the trucks and not Oliver.
(Keep in mind that me thinking Oliver Owns Up is better than Resource and Sagacity is just my opinion, please respect my opinion and I respect your opinion.)

@@GWR3440CityofTruro I think this was in-character as Oliver was being conceited and should've listened to the others advice. He disrupted the turntable making Donald & Douglas annoyed and not having the best of tempers get mad. The trucks were part of the incident but Oliver should've been more careful. And The Tat Controller had a right to be mad as well since that was ballast wasted, an engine needing to go get repaired and two of his engines couldn't turn anymore.
      (Though this is my opinion)

I find it odd that half the stories in Oliver the Western Engine aren't focused on him(Donald's Duck doesn't have him in the story at all and Bulgy basically has him as a supporting character). I think Little Western Engines would've been a better title.

1:40 wait Oliver is an Auto fitted engine, wouldn't it make more sense for Either one of the Autocoaches be at the front of Oliver and other at the Back? It just wouldn't make sense for Isabelle and Dulcie to be at the back unless if It was just a Normal Passenger service with 2 Autocoaches instead of Normal Coaches
