It seems like no one has ever documented their full FC RX-7 Ryosuke spec build on youtube ever. I'm so happy that someone is finally doing it. Liked and subbed!
To get a better idea of what's in the car, check the manga. The anime intentionally "fudges" the brand names and specific features because of broadcast rights issues. The manga uses real names and details
just wanna say for you own knowledge at 11:55 when you said just bring it to red line every few drives you actually cant on the FCs they dont have a rev limiter and just have a buzzer that tells you to let off the gas and if that fails it will just cut the fuel to one of the rotors to drop engine RPM. the more you know
The problem is, some say the FC has a limiter and some say it hasn't... That's why I specifically said: "Bring it up to redline once in a while" and not "Bump of the rev limiter once in a while"😁 It doesn't matter if it's an FC an FD or an RX-8, it's just a good thing to do for the rotary in general no matter what model it is. Of course it doesn't mean you should bounce of the limiter for multiple seconds but I didn't mention this in the video :)
Hey man, great video! We seriously need more FC content on YT, they're so underrated! I wanted to drop you a brief write-up on some of the parts that Ryosuke Takahashi probably would have used based on parts available in the 90s. So in no particular order: -Wheels, he used Work Meister S13 in First Stage, Watanabe R8s in Second Stage, and SSR Type C in 5th Stage. -Exhaust, the HKS Hi-power single exit would be a good period correct option. Also the RMagic dual exit catback would work great if you can somehow track one down lol. -For the interior, he used a Greddy analog boost gauge. Seats would probably be AAR or Bride Zeta II. For Belts/harnesses, Willans, Sabelt, or Takata would work great. (They were red in First Stage and blue in 5th Stage.) -Exterior, RE Amemiya aero mirros and a Fujita Engineering (FEED) front lip is what you'll want. Ryosuke's FC was an S5 (89-92) so he was using that generation of gauge cluster, shift knob, and front bumper. -Engine bay, he had Mazdaspeed or GReddy strut brace, front mount intercooler, and a radiator cooling pannel. -Suspension and Brakes, Ryosuke used GAB suspension based on the sticker on his car in the manga. The DG5 coilover kit was also a popular choice back then if you wanna use period correct coilovers lol. Also based on the stickers in the manga, he used an Endless brake kit. If you have questions, feel free to ask. I love FCs to death haha. Good luck with the build!
Wow this is probably the most comprehensive list I have ever seen😳 Thank you for that! You for sure love FC's😂 But I gotta say, as much as knowing all of the parts now motivates me to build a close replica (obviously impossible because mine is an S4)... It also scares me to be honest😂 One problem I am having with turning into a tribute car is that in Germany we have quite strict laws about car mods. For example I would never be able to legally drive around with all of these rare JDM parts installed as they cannot be registered in the cars papers🥲 I may have bitten off more than I could chew with saying "I will build a replica"😂 I will still definetly make it look lile the real deal from the outside though! Altough from a technical standpoint and the interior, it is kinda impossible to get this thing road legal after installing all of the parts you mentioned :( However thank you so much for this comment, just insane how much knowledge you just dropped in a single comment man!😂
@@moritzherrYeah I totally understand what you mean. The strict laws on mods in Germany (and the EU in general) definitely crossed my mind. From a car enthusiasts perspective, it definitely sucks that it’s so heavily regulated. Regardless of rare JDM parts, you’re still living the dream man! I very much hope to own a Turbo 2 FC one day. Even bone stock, they’re beautiful machines.
@@Delmonico110 You are absolutely right, these cars are just so beautiful even stock. I find it interesting that both of us have barn find FCs that we're going to make look like Ryosuke's. Good luck, dude. I subscribed :) Also thanks for mentioning how cheap the braded steel brake lines are in your last video, I didn't even think of that until you did
@@moritzherr My build is a little slow for now since I need a new engine (I want to convert it to a Turbo-II since it's a GXL), need to paint it myself, etc. But it should be sick when done :) Good luck with yours dude, even being abandoned for 14 years it looks amazing
Impressive quality! Haven’t pulled the engine from mine yet but i will surely use this video as one of the guides! I wish you the best of luck! Keep it up!
Thank you very much! I wanted to capture more of the details but I was afraid, the video might get too technical and boring😅 Good luck with your build and if you have any questions about the engine pull, feel free to ask anytime :) I'm always reading the comments and reply as fast as possible, so if you need any help: You know where you can find me😁
Oh wow! this is like the same thing im doing to my fc right now. I also pulled out the engine, 2 months ago and now its going to get a nice wash with dry ice, new seals, dowels, external oil and the 2 stroke external oil mod and an exhaust port. Really awesome to see that someones been going thru the same thing ive been with the fc and at a nearly same time. The only difference is that mines yellow and a vert but i grew to love them more. Hope we can get our cars on the road again!
It's always awesome to see that there are still people who take care of these old legends the way they deserve it! That said I wish you good luck for your build and feel free to keep me updated in the comment section! 😁
He's engine setup is the Gen one greddy over the manifold charge pipe with both pipes cut thru jdm drivers corner headlampwall to a greddy cooler in mid of rad support. First was the t3 super 60 then it became the gt28rs againt takumi
Welcome to FC ownership! If no one else has recommended it, you should definitely invest in some proper JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screwdrivers. Any screw on this car you think is Phillips is actually JIS. It helps to keep from stripping the screws. Edit to add: I see yours is equipped with ABS. Having dealt with these ABS pumps, it is much easier to run new hard lines to bypass it. That is assuming that modification of that sort is allowed in your country. Nothing like driving home after work with no brakes.
Thanks mate, this is insanely useful advice!😁 Also I didn't know that these ABS pumps had such major issues... I was planning to get rid of it from the beginning as it takes up an insane amount of space aswell. Already looking to order a delete kit :)
Hi, you should think about deleteing your OMP. I know lots of people do it, and it shure works... but it is not the ideal solution in my opinion. I dont know what exact plans you have for the future and how you want to drive your car, but hear me out. If u delete the omp the engine gets lubricated only through the fuel, so whenever ur not on the gas the engine stops being lubricated. This will increase wear, heat and you will loose compression faster then with the OMP. But it doesnt make sense to still use "older technology" mineral oil bc it burns better, but is way lower "quality" than synthetic oil. This is where an omp adapter comes in. You just bolt it to ur omp and the omp sucks the oil out of a separate container rather than the engine oil. Ull just have to put 2 stroke oil in that external tank. So now you can use synthetic oils in your engine, wich perform way better then mineral oil.... better lubrication, better resistance to heat and so on, while still lubricating the apex seals in all runnig conditions with good and clean burning 2 stroke oil. Especially if u intend to use the car in everyday use or driving through mountains, where engine break is often needed. Also another thing to consider is that in order to make it through TÜV u will need to run it without premix bc u will fail emissions with it. Just thinking about running the engine at 5000rpm without lubrication for a minute makes me feel sick. Ohh and ofc you should premix even with the omp adapter installed, bc you always get better lubrication through the air fuel oil mixture than only through the little omp hole in the housings. Cheers man, thanks for the good content and im super excited to see more episodes of the rx7 build.
I believe that the main issue is that S4 FC has a mechanical OMP that does not have any direct replacement, then probably requires some fabrication to be converted to an external reservoir instead of taking engine oil
Thank you for the suggestions but I think in this case installing a "Sohn adapter" may not be the solution though🤔 First of all, they are not being produced anymore and are impossible to find😅 And as @stephanevallet2235 already said, the S4 has a mechanical OMP which is controled by a rod connected to your throttle body. So in this case, it is already being regulated by "Throttle" and should make no difference to running premix which as you said is also regulated by "Throttle". (Correct me if I'm wrong) In general however, running premix is definetly the better option because even when idling it obviously still injects fuel to keep the engine running and therefore lubricating the Apex seals. During idle there is obviously not much fuel being injected and therefore not much lubrication, however this is excactly why there are certain threshholds for how much 2 stroke oil you should add to a tank to keep a good mix. (Usually 1oz per Gallon)
Premix is the way to go - no point of failure anymore and you are never long enough off the gas for the oil to vanish to the point you have no lubrication. 2 stroke oil burns cleaner than synthetic engine oil.
Thanks man, pulling an engine for the first time is for sure very scary😅 Yes I am also super excited to see people enjoying the content and was super shocked to see how many people are subscribing😳
super excited to see more of this project!! I want to restore an FC to close to original state with some modern twists to improve reliability and performance. Someday.
Love the build bro. I appreciate the way you go into detail for each step of the process. Hopefully when i get my own fc, I'll come back to this video to figure out what im doing :)
I agree! That's why I wanted to try out the PowerSeals Apex seals. Instead of shattering in an event of premature combistion like the very fragile OEM seals, they just bend and don't destroy your entire engine.
Awesome vid, respect for for the breakdown and good luck! But just saying about the air pump, fuel economy might not be what you meant to say, its there for emissions AND combustion efficiency at low rpm. The pump is there to make it pass emissions when you are not burning all the fuel for power sure, but at the same time it also helps accelerate the exhaust going out and as a result helps with exhaust efficiency, carbon build up and increases torque at low rpm under load. Stuff that don't matter if you have no restriction in your exhaust system at all and are always revving high and blowing everything out, but kind of needed if you get stuck in traffic etc. under normal driving conditions, and don't want excessive carbon buildup in your engine. If you have all original equipment with a working airpump etc. a rotary does not foul plugs as much as if you got rid of all this when you drive slowly around town. Getting rid of it makes you drive the engine differently as well as make the system work differently. And having it all does not make the rotary hard to maintain, it was designed to work with it obviously for a good number of km. Both of my rotaries (SA/FD)I drove over 120,000km with no overhaul.
Yeah fuel economy was not at all what I wanted to say with that😂 Sorry if it seemed like it. But man I just love comments like this, this comment section is already starting to turn into informational gold! So many people who know what they are talking about and who are willing to share it with the newbies like me😁 Really appreciate it and comments like these really help me understand this engine so much better!
@@moritzherr Yeah, I really love seeing guys like you working hard to keep their Rotaries going (like I am too), and I want more guys getting into their rotary to understand what they are doing to it because I don't want them see them all get replaced by an LS engine!... lol Some people even in Japan here just assume that the airpump is only used for emissions like on a regular engine...and remove it without removing the cat/securing exhaust flow or driving it the way it needs to be after, and then say rotaries are unreliable when they were the ones that made the engine prone to carbon deposit/detonation/blown seals because of that... I'm by no means a "stock oem" fanatic, but you gotta know what you are doing!
u would need s5 trim all around, front and rear s5 bumpers. Jdm flash to pass. S5 fogs and signals with amber inserts. Charge speed front lip aka n1 its hood if choice is aluminum scoop s4 hood. His mirrors are just aero stubs similar to ctr spoon.. Or he's mirrors are the window trail aero mirrors ppl play jdm fold mirrors but no aero stock mirrors.. I'm sure his is slick top with slick hatch. His spoiler is reamemiya iv. . S5 4 piece skirts with matching to the double fender wheel line to fit or RMAGIC SKIRTS and lower quarter rear Spats. S5 tails. S5 interior is just black. Gtx status., probably the gtx seats.
I also like to number the bags as I go so that when I am going through the installation part of it I do everything in the same order (well, reversed order)
Super Video.
Oh man you have some fine taste!😁 I've been looking for these but given that they are extremely expensive, I will probably have to get myself a pair once every single thing on the FC is done.
Just stumbled over your Channel. Very nice video. What kind of exaust are you planning on doing also the same like in the series? And wont it be expensive and difficult to get some of the same exact parts? I hope you will be able to make it as close as possible. Really waited for a video like this. And what is that picture in the back on 11:24? Liked and subbed!
Thanks you for the support! :) I will adress everything in the next video as modifying cars is pretty strictly regulated in Germany which means that even if I could get a hold of these rare and expensive parts, I would sadly never be able to get the FC street legal🥲 I can't even put the period correct bucket seats like Bride Zeta 2 etc. in there because even that is already consideres illegal.. At the moment I sadly have no other choice than to make some compromises on the accuracy of the build to the original from the anime. However don't worry, there are more than enough parts that I AM ALLOWED to install and thankfully these are all the more important visual parts😁 So it is still going to be a very very accurate visual representation of Ryosuke's FC!
Now that I am back from South Korea, there will be a new video every week from now! You cannot believe how happy I am to be back and working on the car again😍
Super Video!

But man I just love comments like this, this comment section is already starting to turn into informational gold! So many people who know what they are talking about and who are willing to share it with the newbies like me😁 Really appreciate it and comments like these really help me understand this engine so much better!
@@moritzherr Yeah, I really love seeing guys like you working hard to keep their Rotaries going (like I am too), and I want more guys getting into their rotary to understand what they are doing to it because I don't want them see them all get replaced by an LS engine!... lol
Some people even in Japan here just assume that the airpump is only used for emissions like on a regular engine...and remove it without removing the cat/securing exhaust flow or driving it the way it needs to be after, and then say rotaries are unreliable when they were the ones that made the engine prone to carbon deposit/detonation/blown seals because of that... I'm by no means a "stock oem" fanatic, but you gotta know what you are doing!
@@TN-lo7jc Amen🙏 Nothing more to add man😁
u would need s5 trim all around, front and rear s5 bumpers.
Yeah I've been keeping an eye kut for S5 trim but it's super hard to find
Can’t wait to see the build progress. I’m planning an fc build for this and next year. I’m going to be building a rally fc
That's awesome! Good luck with your build, I love it when people do Rally RX-7 builds😁
im big fan of initial d and ryosuke takahashi 's fc3s rx-7 cant wait to end up of this project
Thanks man stay tuned for the build! The result will be awesome😍
Can't wait for the next update, for me the Mazda Fc turbo 2 is one of the most beautiful and fun cars
I'm happy you're enjoying the content!😁 Stay tuned for next week!
keep it up!
Im rebuilding my 88 T2 as well, the turbine housing and the manifold are both cracked> upgrade.!
Thanks! Yeah the cracked manifold seems to be a common issue :(
I also like to number the bags as I go so that when I am going through the installation part of it I do everything in the same order (well, reversed order)
Yeah it's really convenient and to my surprise there weren't even any screws and bolts left at the end after putting everything back together😂
Really enjoyed the video looking forward to seeing this progress 👌👍
I'm happy to hear that thanks mate! :)
Notification gang 🎉
Damn thank you so much for the support!😍
Oh men, please continue with this FC content, you're doing amazing 💪🏼
Thank you Mate!✌️ There is much more content ahead :)
i hope you get it out fast this episode fire
Thank you, really appreciate it! Next episode is already on it's way!😁
Super Video.
Danke dir! Und viel Erfolg bei deinem Rebuild😁
Danke
@@moritzherr
For the seats, i would say bride zetas 2, in my opinion this is the closest-looking seats of the ryosuke's
FC ones
Oh man you have some fine taste!😁 I've been looking for these but given that they are extremely expensive, I will probably have to get myself a pair once every single thing on the FC is done.
Just stumbled over your Channel. Very nice video. What kind of exaust are you planning on doing also the same like in the series? And wont it be expensive and difficult to get some of the same exact parts? I hope you will be able to make it as close as possible. Really waited for a video like this.
And what is that picture in the back on 11:24?
Liked and subbed!
Thanks you for the support! :)
I will adress everything in the next video as modifying cars is pretty strictly regulated in Germany which means that even if I could get a hold of these rare and expensive parts, I would sadly never be able to get the FC street legal🥲
I can't even put the period correct bucket seats like Bride Zeta 2 etc. in there because even that is already consideres illegal..
Oh and the picture in the back is an image of Kim Jeong Eun laughing in front of a nuclear submarine with the caption "Live, laugh, love"
you better finish this because i will at somepoint literally do the exact same build and i will definetly use these videos as a guide
Don't worry I will try to capture everything (especially the engine teardown and rebuild) as detailed as possible :)
@@moritzherr sounds like a plan. cant wait to see the finished car build
Clutch fan are best not to prevent overheating. Best for drifting, I mean.
Wieder am Start! 💪
Endlich!😁
@@moritzherr richtig geiles Video und super erklärt! Mach weiter so! 💪💪💪
Recently found you channel. Realy looking forward towards the series.
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying the series😍
Bro
Ryosuke is has a Recaro buckets seats with red Williams 4pt harness
And he has a front mount intercooler
Thanks for the info!
Awesome video mate! Subbed.
Thanks man! Appreciate the support :)
Was waiting for this
Now that I am back from South Korea, there will be a new video every week from now! You cannot believe how happy I am to be back and working on the car again😍
@@moritzherr thats great to hear.
good that u back broo
Thanks man! I'm also glad to finally be able to work on the FC again after the Korea trip😍
@@moritzherru finally hit 1k subs bro keep it up... and are u still giving away the Golf
@@rehtrua Yess finally and yeah I am definetly still going to give away the Golf😁 I will make an update video on that!
There is a youtube video called "How to build Ryosuke Takahashi’s EXACT Rx7 FC" which clarifies some of the parts
Thanks for the suggestion! :)
Great vid
Thank you! Glad you liked it :)
there is an initial d Wiki that goes in detail about the cars
Thanks for the info! :)
Super Video!
i just have one question after the first and this vivdeo. How was the sealong of that barn ? or the weather. Like my man. If i leave my car outside for 1 night here its gonna look like a car what has been parked right in the midle of a cunstruction area in the past 30 yars and im just talking about 1 night dude. What kind of magic barn is that i need one too
@@csapitheone6958 Lol😂 It was actually in pretty rough condition when I first saw it… However I told the previous owner to at least give it a new paintjob before selling it to me as the Price was already pretty steep. Thankfully he knew a good paintshop and got it done before delivering the car👍🏻 That’s why it looks like a brand new car😂
@@moritzherr i almost started to schearch for barn magic stuff 😅😂 for real. But he was a nice dude then thankfully. Nice content tho. Keep it up. I dont know why but i just love rotary engines and cars with them
Hey, can i get some link to the workshop manual? Would be usefull in future
Hey man, left it in the video description for you :)
@@moritzherr Thank you! You are the best dude!
Hey bro, could you link where you found the workshop manual at, thanks!
Hey there, I've left the link to all of the workshop manuals for you in the video description :)
@@moritzherrThanks my guy
why do you have 2 engine hoists for your first engine pull? just curious
Because I have specifically ordered a hoist for the engine pull only to realize that it is way too short😂 So it was basically useless and I had to borrow a second hoist from a friend...
@@moritzherroh man what a bummer at least the homie came in clutch. excited to see the car build 😄
Sick build 👍🏽.... BTW are you willing to sell the stock steering wheel? Lmk 😅
Thanks man! Yeah sure if you want the wheel you can have it :) Where are you from?
@callmemo77 nice, I'm from USA.
Send me a DM on Instagram, we can figure everything out there :) @moritzherr
Ryosuke have 2 mazdaspeed infini bucketseat (impossible to find and very rare)……. I have a fc too if you need help let me know ;)
Love the video
Thank you, yeah I figured it would be some rare part that is impossible to find😂 I was also thinking about Zeta II but these are just insanely expensive...
I had no idea the Pope was a rotorhead.
