Thanks a bunch for taking the time to put this video together. Coupled with another by Scott Elliott, I was able to remove the knob module and repair the broken shaft within the knob to get my comand knob functioning again! Saved $350+ between you two guys' videos. Thanks!
Its not often I compliment UA-cam subscribers however, this guy could make a fortune doing this type of instruction. Nice voice no time wasting on taking out screws and no silly jokes or crap musak in the background. WELL DONE Sir. I thank you from the bottomless pit were my heart lives.
Oh my gosh. You just changed my life. Very professional and makes this look so simple. I'll give it a shot. My ashtray cover has been driving me insane.
Thanks Leonard from the UK, I fixed my rotary knob today by fitting a new metal shaft in the controller (£25) to replace the broken plastic one however I got myself in a mess when the console was in pieces and the cantilever mechanism fell apart. This video got me out of hole and helped me get it all back together again. Really appreciated your help .
This is an excellent video! I appreciate you taking the time to do this. People like you are what makes the web such a powerfully helpful resource. Much appreciated, bud!!
There is no way that I would have been able to hardwire a dashcam without being guided by this excellent video - I was on the verge of booking the car into the local Mercedes dealership for them to do the installation - I would guess this video saved me at least £100 , thank you
I would add two things. The white end of the current command wheel that is being replaced and is attached to the long ribbon is removed in two steps. The first step is to depress the tab and pull the wire harness (attached to the console) toward the back seat. Once that is out the white end that is connected to bottom of the console has three channels that slides out toward the front of the car by depressing the middle white piece that you can see has a slight hook to it and voila it pulls off easily. Great video and it took me less than 20 mins to complete and I spent a few minutes trying to figure out the white piece.
Wow, what a great video! Thank you so much for posting! I'm not a do-it-yourself guy but I used your video today to install a new dial on my 2010 E550. It took me about 40 mins to install. I got a quote from midtown Mercedes-Benz for $800 including 2hrs for labour.
I got it online with free shipping from from ECS Tuning for $246 www.ecstuning.com/Cart/?add1=2069020&qty1=1&NBair&salesrep=NBair Thanks again for posting this excellent tutorial!
Thanks man! The scrolling of my media knob didn't work. With this video it took me about 10 minutes to replace it. I knew which tools were needed, so i didn't have to carry to whole toolbox to the car. Again thanks and keep doing this!
Thank you so much for posting this; dropped our debit card down in the slot and couldn't close the cover for the ash tray; only had to remove the a/c controller to retrieve it. Thanks again for posting this and getting me out of trouble with the wife.
An excellent tutorial, well done Leonard. I used it to repair the sliding lid on the center console. A business card had gotten trapped behind it and dislodged the spring that held it open.
Excellent Video. Thanks, Leonard! In a 2012 E350 I had a credit card stuck behind the rear of sliding door for the cup holder/ash tray. It prevented the door from opening all the way. Per the video, all you have to do is remove the plastic piece above the HVAC control with a heavy wire bent 90 degrees. Then remove the 2 torx screws holding the HVAC unit with a #20 torx bit. Removing the HVAC control was tricky. Use the hook at the top to loosen the control, then giggle and rotate it out. If you're lucky you can see the stuck card now behind the cup holder unit. I was able to fish the card out without actually having to removed the unit.
Very helpful video , I has fixed my E550 , Mercedes 2011 cigarettes lighter connector came off under cups holder and also fixed my sliders cover with out problems, thank you for your times to help many user here and a tons money for repair .
Thank you very much for this video, I have had a problem with the centre console slid and didn't know how to remove it , this is excellent, I have now removed the console and repaired it. well done
Just used this video to remove the Command module in order to replace the shaft inside the unit. The shaft cost about $20 and is aluminum so it won't break again. Much better than buying the whole unit. The video was a big help in removing the Command Module. The only problem I ran into that is not shown in the video is how to disconnect the wire that goes from the Module itself to the car's wiring harness. It is a different setup than the blue wire that is shown being disconnected here. That process would have been a big help if it had been shown. Other than that small critique, excellent video and big time and money saver. Thanks alot.
Absolutely perfect, I followed every step and managed to repair my scrollwheel. This is how an instructional video shall be done. Thank You very much Mr Mayer!
Thanks so much. I agree that you have a professional manner. In my 2010, the wood top of the big slider came off. The undercarriage wasn't connected to the front slider but I did have both clips in place. Using your video, I got the clips to re-insert under the front slider but so far I can't get the wood to stick down on the front slider. I was able to do my repair without taking the console apart. Maybe I have to do that now. Thanks again.
Thank you as well. Excellent commentary and straight to the point. I have more confidence now in being able to do this myself. Get yourself a gopro headset and do this more often. :-)
wow brotha you did your homework on this one and i thank you cause i'm facing the same issue with my scroller. there is other videos i found in the act of taking apart the unit but not from the council thank you very much.
Excellent video.....very informative, mainly lower panel removal....saved me alot of time. This is the only video of lower panel removal....are you able to make more on lower panel.....temp control is one of the most broken part...Thanks
great video...my 2012 did the same thing last year, plus I was also looking for a video that shows how to remove the wood trim. My wood is fading due to no UV protection from MB...thinking about putting vinyl wrap include of paying MB $3500 since I'm out of warranty. THX !!!
This was amazingly helpful...thank you! My only problem is the same one a couple others have spoken about and that's getting the arm rest lever to click back into place. Is there a trick to it, because I've tried and tried and it just won't go back on all the way. I thought maybe holding down on it again with the same small flathead screwdriver I used to get it off might work but no luck. Has anyone else with this problem managed to get it back on securely?
First let me say the video is great. However once I got the know removed I couldn’t get it unplugged. Looks like the entire cup holder would have to be removed to gain access to the plug. Am I doing something wrong?
Amazing video, I just replaced shaft on my knob today... Got new aluminum Shaft on Amazon... works perfect now everything is back on but the centre console pull handle is not clicking, how do you put it back on?
Are you able to make a video on Blind Spot Assist Radar/Sensor replacement. They are on both rear corners inside rear bumper....Mercedes made it such, that radar sensors are held by plastic casings stuck to inside of bumper...those usually get corroded and messed up and get unstuck falling up mainly if you are living in a high winter zone with lots of snow and salt.....how to stick those back up and save the sensor....radar sensor is almost $770 each through Mercedes dealership....Thanks a million
Love the instructional video as I have the same control knob issue on my 2012 E350. I do have one question and that's where did you purchase the replacement knob? Just wondering if I have to go to MB parts to get it or can I purchase it elsewhere. Thanks for your help.
Can you show us how to remove the cigarette lighter. I need to install dash cam but dont want any wites on show so am planning to connect to the lighter from behind. Any suggestions and tips will help
In my case the side trim pieces DID break... both of them. The front tab refused to come up and both broke. I would suggest to any one that wants to attempt this that the trick is to pull them STRAIGHT up while wiggling left/right to work the spring clips out. But I wouldn't know how to avoid what happened in my case. Perhaps the luck of the draw that my metal clips were stouter than others'. They are plastic posts with metal spring clips that tension/wedge into the holding slot on the ash tray carrier piece.
I have same car. my spin function on my switch doesn't work but the push functions work. kinda annoying because the spin functions are easier and faster to use.
slight difference on my rotary knob unit,DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE CHROME SURROUND, just squeeze the two side black plastics sitting over the vineer so that you can take the whole unit out , rotary knob and veneer, i have a photo but dont know how to add it here, also T20 screws on mine

Such a great how-to. My Cantilever door was also broken and this guide saved me a small fortune. Thank you so much Leonard.
This is still the best video to repair the command knob. You just saved me some time and money. Very good instructions and details. Thanks!!

@@woodzcarwhen you replaced the new knob did you had to do any software or program update? if that so ... how was it done?

I'm at the same stage - having trouble getting the actual command control unit wire out. How did you do it?

Well done, sir! Thank you! My W212 is not only cleaner now but wired the way I wanted!
Absolutely perfect, I followed every step and managed to repair my scrollwheel. This is how an instructional video shall be done. Thank You very much Mr Mayer!
Thanks for sharing, very detailed explanation on this unexplored territory! It helped me a lot!
Exactly what I was looking for. Great vid and thank you

There are metal clips that press into the console. Its likely that they pulled out or fell in upon removal.
Thank you as well. Excellent commentary and straight to the point. I have more confidence now in being able to do this myself. Get yourself a gopro headset and do this more often. :-)
I echo the posters appreciation of your video! I also own a 2011 and there's so few DYI videos. Thank you well done!
Thank you! Most helpful video ever!
Well done, very helpful. Thank you for taking the time & trouble to help others like me.
I fixed the axle with heat shrink tubing and superglue, works just fine.
Thank you for posting this video. Exactly what I need to fix my E550.
Truly outstanding video - I love how clearly you explain what to do.

Any suggestions getting the armrest lever back on? I can't quite seem to get it to click back into place.
Hi Leo, your video is quite helpful. But i got a problem on the armrest switch. As i put it back, it still loosen. Any advise for that?
Thank you this really help and saved me some $$$
Great video - unfortunately my right hand side trim piece did break.

Wanting to put one of these things in a 1980 Camaro. How hard would it be to install one? Wiring wise.
Thank you SO MUCH for this video!

Nice tutorial! thank you.
Amazing video, I just replaced shaft on my knob today... Got new aluminum Shaft on Amazon... works perfect now everything is back on but the centre console pull handle is not clicking, how do you put it back on?
Excellent. Thanks.
Thanks for this. Might save some of your expensive lacquer if you cover it with masking tape before you poke that hook into anything. Just saying :)
very helpful man, thanks
Very Helpful!

Bought mine online from a mercedes dealer for $248 shipped and genuine oem part
@@jeffcasto6079 Thanks for the info.
Hey Leonard, have you gone and taken apart the actual controller?
Bro you sound exactly like Will Smith :)
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Can you show us how to remove the cigarette lighter. I need to install dash cam but dont want any wites on show so am planning to connect to the lighter from behind. Any suggestions and tips will help
Excellent.
hello, how did you know that this is the part that's broken? What were the symptoms? Thanks and great tutorial.
The control knob selects all functions on your radio and navigation display. If you can not scroll, or have intermittent function, its likely faulty.
Thanks for this tutorial.
Can you tell me how long the wire harness is and how accessible t is to unplug?
The harness pulls out about 4", enough for you to rotate tray and view plug for disassembly

Where can I buy the control knob for 200 ?? I also need a new black trim that you remove first ??
I have same car. my spin function on my switch doesn't work but the push functions work. kinda annoying because the spin functions are easier and faster to use.
my rotation works fine and joystick works only upwards... any idea?
God amongst men

WOW very nice!! This helped fix my sticking Sport button!!! Check it out if you have the same issue.
thanx for help
Do you know how to remove the glove box? If so can you make a video?
