    You should use the the microscope on your lips when they are chapped or with lipstick and see the effective of it. Great series. Your mom’s hair is so healthy and now I want to check how my hair looks.

    It makes sense to me that the grey hair was transparent, since grey hair is hair that is totally lacking in pigment. Very interesting to see things under your Tinascope!

  • @madelinesiehl2427
    @madelinesiehl2427 5 років тому +238

    "Grey" hairs aren't actually grey or white - they are transparent, like you said. As you age, the melanocytes that produce your hair color die or stop functioning. Therefore the keratin and other components of hair still grow, but they don't have any color in them. This also happens when you bleach your hair. Your hair isn't white, its clear, but because our hair still has solid components, it doesn't disappear to the naked eye. Polar bears are actually black and their hair is transparent as well, but the background of their black skin make them look white. The color of your hair is all dependent upon the amount of color particles in your hair shaft.

    “I shampoo twice” well, you do you boo but it won’t help you with anything, it’ll just make your hair even drier... you already have a dry scalp, shampooing too much is just stripping away all the nutrients your roots need after bleaching :( the amount of excess oil and dandruff on your scalp (which isn’t a lot as your scalp is pretty dry) is already removed within the first round of shampooing, the second round will only make matters worse.

      Jenna Maria my hair is bleached and has been colored multiple times so it’s really dry but the roots get really really greasy if I don’t shampoo twice

    • @jenna_maria
      @jenna_maria 5 років тому +22

      Bellla Dicola The thing is, your scalp adjusts to the amount of shampoo you use. It needs to keep up a protective layer of sebum to protect the skin of your scalp. Now, if you have the genetic tendency to get really greasy hair really fast anyway, you may need to shampoo more often, but you still should try to not overdo it. On the other hand, her hair and scalp naturally tend to be really really dry (you can see it in the size and shape of her “dandruff” (of which she has little, it’s barely visible) and the texture of her hair which is quite brittle and very dry as well) and nowhere near the greasy side, so she naturally doesn’t need to shampoo twice. If she shampoos twice despite all that, it is only gonna harm her hair and scalp.

    Your mom's a doll. I recommend apple cider vinegar for deep scalp treatment. I have heard tee tree oil can help, as well. Rice water rinses and coconut oil can help with hair. If you can stand it, only wash your hair once or twice a week, to hold in natural oils, and to train the scalp to not produce too much. I also have been wearing a satin sleep cap to hold in moisture and reduce breakage. I also don't use heat to style my hair, nor do I brush or comb it when wet. Because I am older, I take biotin and Co-Q10, which helps with health, thickness and growth. Best to you both.

    I’m not a scalp expert, but I’ve read somewhere that washing too much with shampoo actually does bad to your head. It depends on its ingredients though. I believe some no-poo (no shampoo) practitioners eventually try to find a shampoo which doesn’t include sulfate in it.

      It's actually unhealthy to wash your hair every day. If you do,it can't produce it's natural oils. That ends up in oily or greasy hair in most cases. You should only wash your hair once or twice a week.

  • @mia-bl6qf
    @mia-bl6qf 6 років тому +143

    I just want to mention that the reason that you have a flakey scalp is because you're actually shampooing too much. If you would only shampoo once a shower, you'd actually have less flakes/dandruff. Also, since you have straight hair, you should only be shampooing once every other day.

      Yeah for most people that’s the case, dandruff is caused by shampoo drying out their scalp. But I shower twice a day, and shampoo it once... my scalp is super healthy and I’ve never had any dandruff whatsoever. It can be genetic, with Tina it could be since her mom has dandruff too.

    ehh dont shampoo twice... and I'm not sure how often you wash your hair but deffinatly dont wash your hair every day!! Dandruff can be from shampooing too much, or just dry skin for not being well hydrated.

      @tina_yong  6 років тому +9

      That’s what I thought too but since living in Singapore my hairdresser told me I need to wash my hair everyday cause it’s so humid here

      @nasyitakimi 6 років тому +1

      Yupp since in singapore its humid even my hairdresser told me to shampoo twice.. i went and check my scalp it was similar to Tina's scalp..

    • @kat284
      @kat284 6 років тому +9

      Tina Yong that’s so weird because humidity is only extra moisture in the air and doesn’t actually make your hair dirty. Don’t wash your hair so often, it dries out your skin. Put some oil into your hair and the frizz will disappear which is what humidity gives you

    • @raebaddings1521
      @raebaddings1521 6 років тому +4

      Kat actually the higher humidity can keep the scalp moist which causes fungal overgrowth, leading to what appears as dry scalp. Sweat and oils cause this, that’s why some people shower twice a day, especially if they have body acne.

    I am 13 and when i was 9 i colored my hair blonde, i have black hair and it became ginger after i colored it and i colored it from the scalp and down... after that my hair became thin and when i shower or brush my hair i loose some hair but it is better now! It said on the pack (that it came in) that it had a type of oil and it would not damage the hair but it did... moral of the story- Don’t dye your hair! Ecpesially when you are young! My hair isn’t growing fast...it probably will take 10 years to grow my hair long...i cut it many times And I need a hair and scalp treatment!

    if you wanted to do some sort of experiment, maybe you could try and check the health of your scalp after different treatments or wash methods, like more scalp massaging during shampoo etc etc, i think it'd be cool to see the effects on your hair. if your mom was in it as well that would be a bonus

    Maybe it looks transparent because of the hair losing its color, and I guess that's what happens?

    • @roni3456
      @roni3456 5 років тому +13

      pandalover1234567896 yeah, when hair does not have pigments in it, it looks clear. So in theory if you were to look at the fur of a polar bear it would look clear

    • @annarosegacha7937
      @annarosegacha7937 5 років тому

      So hair can looses a pigment that is the same as what a leaf has making it change colours so as you get older your body stops producing photosynthesis (aka pigments) and so when your older your hair gets pretty much transparent but the is the slightest amount of photosynthesis like when you but a drop of white glue into clear slime (I'm a 11 year old girl so I hope I did an ok job in explaining)

    • @XxGoldenDevoxX
      @XxGoldenDevoxX 5 років тому

      Lucinda Memories You are very right when you say the hair looks clear because it lost pigment. As we get older we can lose the pigment in our hair called melanin, and were there is little to no melanin left in the hair it appears white or grey in color. That’s because we can now see the clear layer of our hair called the cuticle, which is why it looks clear under the the microscope. I think it’s really great you know that hair is clear because there’s no pigment.

    The grey hair looks clear because as you get older the pigment cells in your hair gradually die which means that there will no longer contain as much melanin so it has no pigment. That’s why it looks grey:)

    I've never bleached or colored my hair in any way but I have split ends anyway. It's normal when you don't cut your hair for long periods of time, hair stop growing at one point, it won't get any longer and the ends will split.
