- After years of court battles, a Settlement is finally reached in Henrietta Lack's Lawsuit with Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Thermo Fisher Scientific is one of the many biotechnology companies that benefited from Lacks cells that were taken without her consent by Doctors at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1951. Her cells, known as HeLa cells, became the first human cells successfully cloned and went on to revolutionize medicine.
Today, The family of Henrietta Lacks and their attorney Attorney Ben Crump held a press conference to discuss the significance of the confidential settlement.

Hopefully it’s a nice amount, the family sounds satisfied and they came to a mutual agreement and they refuse to disclose how much -as they should. Her children fought so hard for so many years.

My if my grandmothers cells saved so many peoples lives I and rest family would be soo extremely proud and honered that the fact cells kept multiplying In the lab ,and was noticed and used to irradicate illness and save lives.....i would not be suing for any amount of money ... now i would definitely want it acknowledged in medical and history..books maybe a ward or lab named in her honor. ..

They were fighting about money, now I don't blame them but let's not make it seem like it was about the legacy, it was about the millions and possibly billions of dollars, but I think this lawsuit probably settled between $50 to $200 million.
They deserved the money. There were probably billions made off her cells. She deserve to be recognized for the work and lives saved by her cells. Others lauded. I am glad they fought, and I hope more fight to unveil the accomplishments of black men and women, stolen and/or hidden.
