Has anybody noticed that you never see any memorabilia anymore? You never see any t-shirts, car flags, license plate holders, window stickers, hats, jackets or anything else. They used to be all over the place but rarely do you see anybody wearing anything. Walmart used to have a dedicated section. Diecast cars used to fill the toy section. Now, you see nothing.

My understanding is that it’s about percentages, 10% for NASCAR, 45% for the Tracks and 45% for the teams. If the TV deal is worth a Billion, they spit a billion, if the get just a million, they spit a million. If the next TV deal sucks for NASCAR, is sucks for everyone, not just the France family. But it does mean if the deal is a big win, then its big money for everyone, not just the France family. I think that is what Denny means when he says, “Charters cost nothing”, If the TV deal collapses so does the value of the charters, but it won’t cost the France family anything additional.

It's a big loss for the track owners they are the ones having to give up 20% , the France family is still going to get their 10.

@ServantofYaHi777 do you even know who actually owns most of the tracks now. If you did you wouldn't be saying that the track owners are loosing money since nascar is the major owner of most of the tracks. So basically nascar is not just getting 10%. In all reality it's getting 55% and the teams are the ones who are getting screwed not nascar or track owners

People need to wake up to the truth that Dale JR is a very savvy business man. He knows a lot, a lot more than most folks give him credit for. When he doesn't know he isn't afraid to look for someone who has a better understanding than he has.

Been a NASCAR fan (attended Races at Bristol, Michigan, Martinsville , others) for 60 years…….. the smell of the cars, the excitement as "they come to the Green flag" …..the semi-haulers, merchandise haulers…the whole deal….BUT within 5 years it will all go away…. The France Family will eventually dig in their heels…..the owners will not back down, the drivers will leave NASCA$…..(to form their own series) "The Pro-Cup Racing League"….. it will all blow up. Very sad….but the good part ? True fans will go back to their local tracks……"there, they will discover true racers, in true races" It’s been real

I understand nascar saying "we dont know what will happen after the next tv deal" for why they are worried about permanent charters, but it's a risk it's taking regardless. No one knows the future but dang it grilled cheese is $11.99 at a restaurant, they need to start forking up the cash. It's simply put, an outdated system of control & the teams have many many smart people that can really help & inspire positive growth in the sport we all love.
I just think it would make the racing better. Permanent charters mean less focus on keeping the doors open, and instead BETTER PERFORMANCE ON TRACK FOCUS!

I think a lot of us have been asking for a NASCAR channel or another Motorsports channel such as Speed. If a race has to be moved or a network doesn’t want the race on their main channel, it could go to that Motorsports channel. If a race gets rain delayed or runs long, it could finish up on that channel. I would love to just see a NASCAR TV channel or streaming service and have stuff there.

If I had the money to buy a cup car, I wouldn't even worry about a charter. It's gotten to be much more uncommon to have a full field with go-or-go-home cars so I'd just start there and work my way up. I'd rather not have "guaranteed cars" anyways. Either be fast enough to make the race, or don't race.
And if Nascar does create its own channel, I REALLY freakin hope it's much more like SPEED than MavTV

Have you watched an NBA game or NFL game from the 90s vs nowadays? those sports have lost more of their aura then Nascar but enough kids grow up playing those sports because they are cheap while racing isnt. Sports entertainment as a whole was killed when the market crashed in 08. Its ALL about making money now not the sport and the NFL and NBA make money, thats why they seem to be doing fine but i mean watch the games and listen to how the athletes talk, its pretty pathetic. Also you gotta remember soccer is the most popular sport on the planet, and lets be real that is a rubbish sport.

A lot of that has to do with how accessible it is to watch now vs. pre-internet. If you have a phone or tablet, you can watch the race anywhere. Ticket prices havent exactly gone down either, so it makes financial sense for people to watch at home, or on the go, instead of spending literally thousands to attend a single race

There will always be somebody who wants to broadcast NASCAR Cup Series. Now, the dollars may not keep growing at the same rate, but there will be suitors for NASCAR broadcast rights. So, acting as if they 'just don't know' is a false narrative in regards to the future. What's going to hurt them in the long run, is pricing out teams for the charters.

My thought is permanent charters are a no brainer. NASCAR says we don't know if we can always have the TV money to support them. Hot take: If the TV money goes away, the sport goes away. It wouldn't have near the exposure, so sponsorships no longer make sense and you have eliminated the two primary sources of money to keep racing. It feels to me like NASCAR afraid of losing their fiefdom. I appreciate your loyalty to the sport; it obviously has been a great benefit to you and your family going back a good ways, but you now have team owners who are saying I'm not sinking anymore cash into this deal without some comfort that it will be a good investment. You yourself, a giant in the sport have said, "I'm not spending that kind of money for a charter." If Dale Earnhardt Jr can't see his way past it, who can?

Nascar is locking in all the future value for themselves. At this point charters are like owning a small piece of Nascar that holds a portion of the value of Nascar as a whole. Nascar has shown those charters are worthless because Nascar will take them back at any time they want to ensure they get the profits they want. In NFL, NBA, and MLB the team owners actually own something of great value like their teams and their arenas in most cases... Nascar own every bit of the league including most tracks. They dictate everything. Owners with their teams and drivers should take this opportunity to see who the France family is and look at starting their own Racing league owned by Teams like in other sports. Taking away power from the France family is the only way to get the negotiating power to even out.

The Teams seek a higher percentage to exist for profitability as NASCAR wants and they also double dip, the pie size determines monetary amount not the percentage. The charter value is based on the series success, not NASCAR having to pay teams for not racing or a smaller pie size, 45 of X = $. How would you feel after supporting and growing a sport for 30 years having to sell all for pennies on the dollar? Would you consider that a good investment, ask Junior Johnson and countless others?

But if tv revenue gos down then how much teams get could go down and if tv revenues go up then teams could get more money so I agree with Denny that making the charters permanent does not cost NASCAR anything so NASCAR should make a deal with the teams that stats if revenue goes down then they get less money and more money if revenue goes up and make the charters permanent and if they don’t I could see a split coming

Charters will never be the lucrative business plan that NFL franchises are because, NASCAR won't allow it to happen. Charters will be hobbies for billionaires and not a profit geared business. NASCARs fan base has dwindled and sponsorship is scarce because their return on investment isnt there. NASCAR won't share their wealth like the NFL does to keep each team competitive.
