Scott once told me on the front straightaway at the Topless 100 " Half of them love me, half of them hate me, but they are all hear to see me" and he laughed. He was exactly right! I was the flagman for two of his Topless wins. He is on the Mt Rushmore of Late Model racing!
I have a great memory with Scott Bloomquist. My grandson and I were walking around at Lucas Oil in Wheatland MO and I noticed you sitting in the spectator lounge. I told him to wave and Scott invited him over and he invited him to sit at the table with them. It made his day! I think he was 8 at the time.
I can remember the talk in the pits at the tracks in Tennessee. Everything from he sold coke to buy his first car to he was smuggling in his hauler. I can remember all the time I was around him he was nothing but the best around and always a good guy. Definitely the best I ever seen in a dirt late model.

Dale, you and Mike do a great job of bringing out the best in a person during an interview. In this case there is lots to work with and Scott seems like a wonderful person. My kinda' guy!
First time I got to see Scott race live was April 2011 at Bedford speedway . His pit was straight across from my seat. He ran hot laps, pulled in and they unloaded the backup car… they pulled both engines and put the backup cars engine in the car he ran hot laps in… started it with maybe 10min before time trials and set a new track record at that time. First sub 19sec lap ever and dominated the feature. Been a fan ever since!
I watched Scott race live probably half a dozen times. The man is a late model genius. Watched him and eckert run side by side for over 20 laps. Never touched or done anything dirty to each other. Great driver.
I was at rockingham speedway testing busch car with rcr, and scott was testing with a small team, they were having power steering problems scott told them to take the belt off, and he tested all day at the rock with no power steering, and ran pretty damn good for car he was in, so yeah hes a bad ass and got my respect that day
That dude is on another level. That is what has made him so successful is his brain is always thinking and he obviously only focuses on one thing at a time. So while all the BS of the world is happening around him he has the ability to turn that all off and think about making his race car faster and getting the maximum grip. And yes I’ve seen him arrive after heat races and qualifying have started and have to start at the back of the B features to come all the way through to win just to start at the back of an A feature to come all the way through and win.
I was around dirt racing back in the 80s and 90s, people were trying to get Bloomquist every way they could because they couldn't beat him. Saw him get sent to the back of the pack more than once for BS "violations" and he`d still end up winning, that is how dominate he was at that time.
My ex-wife went with her new bf to PPMS one year and she goes to the autograph session and she's just in love with Jimmy Owens but she saw Bloomquist and says "my ex husband is a huge fan of your's but I don't like you." And he still signed the autograph. Dude is awesome

But at the end of the day I've always thought you don't know what you don't know, and the fact is that he's a great driver and a down to earth person- and that's where I'm gonna leave my opinion at. Truly a character- in a good way.

Growing up in northeast TN and racing at Bristol I feel very close to this and remember it. Always loved both of you. @Dale Jr. We have a van at work that belonged to your uncle.
