You didn't show what you had to do to fix a backlash or tooth engagement of the gears you said you just had to move it by adding shims so what shims did you add? You should have shown that because somebody could have gotten all the way there to the end realize that the gear engagement isn't where it should be and not know what shims to add. Almost The Ultimate Guide to rebuilding the r200.
+all the boost why it was like that was because I forgot to put the shim between the pinion and bearing, it was just an example of bad tooth engagement. I lost some footage from the end somehow. But since no diff is the same the basics are more important
Hey man great vid - but quick question when you swapping the 4.6 to the s13 differential housing you using the 4.6 shims ? Or keeping the s13 shims ? The ones that's goes in the the left and right side .
I know this is an old video and you're probably tired of answering questions. But, your video is probably the best I've found so I hope you'll indulge me a question that wasn't covered. I need to install one of my stub axles using a new C-clip. Can I install the c-clip on the axle and then insert it? Or do I need to get the c-clip into the groove inside the differential and then install the axle? Or does it work equally well either way?
can you swap the internals from an LSD? You know, the one with the ABS sensor..... It sure would help when doing this swap, because if you can swap cases, you avoid driveshaft headaches
Hey great video! A couple questions. I saw your response to someone saying you forgot to put the washer on the pinion shaft before pressed on the bearings and pressed it into the housing. But are you saying in order to get the correct tooth engagement a different shim washer needs to be put on the pinion shaft requiring you to take the carrier out and press the shaft and bearings out again? Also if backlash is to tight, is that a carrier bearing shim adjustment or a pinion shaft shim adjustment?
he put the washer on but with the new gears and it being in a new housing the shim needed to be bigger to get full engagement on the ring gear, to adjust backlash you add or subtract shims from whatever side of the diff Centre the manufacturer says
Hey again! I'm actually rebuilding mine right now. I have all the races and stuff out of the pumpkin but I'm having trouble with the pinion bearing and the 2 on the ring. What is that circular clamp you used?
Hey super curious if anyone knows any info on changing the gear ratio lower to a 3.5 or ever lower 3.13 into my s13 diff? Having major issues finding info. Thanks
@@Junkyard_Dave sorry I wasn’t clear with my question. What I meant was what is the 4.6 recommended to use for as in drag racing, drift, or street use I’m looking for a ratio that would be decent enough for drift but is still drivable in the street/highway speeds.
Does anyone know where to get shims for the pinion and diff housing I''m having a difficult time finding any I have a longnose r200 btw thought it would have similar shims though?
The parts department is claiming they are obsolete and if I want them I need to know a part number. I am guessing any r200 shim would work or am I wrong? If so this should open up some years later than the 77 280z that they might have.
Really cool and informative guide Dave, awesome work dude!
FinalDecap thanks
Great video Dave, lots of good info!

Just catching up on your videos... keep them coming :)

The shims look like washers that go on the axle driveline to move the main gear left or right.
'you don't want to mix races' what the fuq David??? Good vid btw. Cool to see this start to finish.
klax0421 lol and thanks

"You dont wunna mix races up, so im gunna keep this one with the bearing" If this wasnt in context.... haha

I have the 2 bolt r200 and was wondering did u buy a complete kit? if so have link?
Csn we send you a diff & have u do this ?

Hey, do you recommend a 350z or GTR R200?
Which year was this taken out of I have the exact same one and I don’t know if I can use it on my s14
Nevermind later in the video you mentioned it was an s13 lol I guess I have to swap covers
How did you know which bearings and races to buy? I'm on Rock Auto and there seem to be many different options for the same year.
Chris I believe I mentioned the part numbers of the correct ones

So what was your backlash?
yo Dave what options are there for higher ratio gearsets? do the j30/q45/300zx/skyline parts fit? 4.xx is pretty low for a v8 swap
Matt Smith all those are r200 except the q45 but 3.73,4.10,4.40,4.625,4.90

Its called a bearing spreader
Thanks man!
What do you usually set the backlash to?

Do you have the bearings and seals part number?
What’s a good backlash spec?
Where can I get a rebuild kit for my s14 r200.....seals and bearings
any parts store
So which 4.6 are you using? 4.636 [51-11] or 4.625 [37-8]
He used 37-8. But tell me, any difference between the 2? Both r200?
When you going to start doing some RB stuff.
+all the boost most likely after SEMA I want to talk to borg warner again when I am there
What differential use is this 4.6 recommended for?
Pathfinder

Okay thank you

Car Vids you need to know your thickness and yes any should work the long nose just has a longer pinion shaft
is this adams?
Aaron Zack yes it is
