My son and I live in Georgia. We plan to do the georgia traverse in September. I'll be on my 23 dr650 and my son will be on a 01 klr 650. Not a ton of ohv stuff here.
Ben, your videos just keep getting better and better. As a guy who has camped at Olallie a hundred nights or more over the years, I could feel the complete relaxation as you and Tim were seated in silence by the fire there in Paul Dennis Campground. Great video, very entertaining. Keep up the good work sir.
After Dork and Spite said the 800DE made no sense, I ran out and bought one. Yep, it's as good as all the other reviewers say. Big Rock Moto raves about it. I listen to reviewers that have experience. I watch dorks to to figure out what not to do. Big reason I didn't buy the Norden was dork was the only one who liked it.
Love your page and watching all your adventures. My wife and I own the Gallery and love the endorsement! Please let us know next time you're coming through and breakfast is on us! 🤙🏻
Love your dorky videos. I’m not an off road rider, I’m more of a highway iron butt rider. But if I was even 25 years younger I’d try it! But for now I’ll enjoy your antics.
I just noticed Bend is the western terminus of US20. I've been on most of 20 thru NY on 4 wheels & some bicycling. Juuust getting into motos with my spankin new rally.
I remember searching for WABDR on UA-cam earlier this year. I'm glad I did. I ride a Tiger 1200, so I wanted to know how big bike friendly it is. It's generally pretty good, but there are definitely sections to avoid, and babyhead hill is definitely one of them. Glad you only broke metal and not bones. 👍
Dork, great move picking a lighter bike, imo. Thanks for sharing your trip, I'm having a blast watching this series. Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.
Love the consistent content that is always humble, entertaining, and relevant. Even though I rarely ride my KLR these days, I still appreciate Ben's excellent delivery and occasionally educational musings, lol. I consider my meager $2.15 monthly subscriber fee a much better investment than the tip to the fast food server that did nothing but take my order in a disinterested fashion but now expects a tip.
So I’ve been waiting to see your experience on section 5 ever since eric and I got back from riding it. Our experience on section 5 was so incredibly difficult compared to what I saw on your vehicle. The sand was our biggest struggle. I don’t know if it’s our skill level, the fully loaded heavy Himalayans or the 50/50 tires I was running but it was insane!!
Tires will change the capability of a bike. Suspension and ground clearance do to some extent but those often more effect the speed that you can take on things where tires can change whether a bike can make it across terrain or not.
Ben I love your content. Great video! I am inspired and hopefully I can upgrade from my China dual sport to something a little more capable in the spring and have some adventures. Keep up the great content man, its a blast!
I watched this BDR on the RideBDR channel. They did a lot of little off trail jaunts and had seemingly some way crazier rocky trails at times. I like the sightseeing and awesome campsite choices on this route. Just gotta get through that first section. Definitely would not do this north to south as a lot of people are and have to suffer through that first section at the end of the ride.
Good ol chili mac, it really is one of the only good mountain house meals. Like someone mixed chef boyardee with chili but in the most basic way. Most of those meals I give half an hour, its always the damn noodles that take forever. Crunchy noodles are only good when you are really tired and hungry from riding all day.
Hey Ben, loving the series. Thanks. Also, I camped this weekend with my Big Agnes bag and mat, all bought on your recommendation. It was perfect. All of your issues with previous kit were the same as mine so I took the chance. Best nights camping so far. Can't wait to get out again. Really appreciate it. Cheers. 👍🏻 Jim, UK.
Great channel. Finding this channel has prompted me to reconsider and book a Team Oregon class in the Spring. Curious why the BDR didn't take advantage of the 4220 Rd to Olallie, or will it after the hazard trees are cut? It's a fun ride in a Jeep.
AWESOME SERIES AND GREAT TIMING !! would you do this , aside from sections 1 , 2 & the expert sections but the rest of it on your T7 ???. my 901 is the only bike i have at the moment so thats the mount , we are starting from Lakeview OR August 6th , next week cant wait , going north on the ORBDR from there and going to do the first few sections of WABDR to get back home to Wenatchee/Cashmere
I've been curious what Olallie looks like after the fire. I was planning a backpacking trip in that area when that fire hit, and the summer right after the road up there was closed off so I never got the chance
@Dorkintheroad - Hey Ben - is the CRF 450 now your preferred BDR bike over the Tenere 700? I ask because I've got a 2022 Tenere that I've modded out to be as light and dirt oriented as possible...but she's still a big girl...
I was riding the Tail of the Dragon on the 4th of July :D You had MUCH better weather than I did. I got rained on....three times? Lol Also, Tim is the first person I have ever seen actually use the bite mount for a go pro. Tim. Carry extra straps with you man. Lol
Ben, interested in a review of the CRF450RL as a lightweight adventure bike. What was your fuel range/economy and how was the bike on the paved sections? No doubt it was stellar in the dirt.
Did you guys ride up the Pine Mtn Road? I went out the KLX on Saturday and did the section between China Hat and the observatory. If you did ride that section, I'm curious how it compares to the other "technical" sections northward?
I personally thought the road up to the observatory was more technical/difficult than Cache, but it really depends on what terrain you're most comfortable in.
Awesome content, Ben! Loving your channel. Did Tim say he would NOT ride the 690 again (in favor of the 500)? I listened to the clip multiple times and couldn't clearly make out what he said. From the footage I'm watching you guys ride over, smaller bikes do seem like a wise choice!
I understood him to say, he would ride the 690 again. Just finished the WY BDR on a 690-- and it was definitely the correct bike for the challenges presented!
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.... Hey Ben, pretend you are being forced to tour Oregon on motorcycle, but you don't have mad(angry?) off-road skills for the BDR, and you love the wilderness, what would that route look like?
traveloregon.com/things-to-do/trip-ideas/7-wonders I'd connect those 7 points with as many 2 lane highways as I could find. Something I've been kicking around taking on myself, honestly.
Detroit was literally burned to the ground, and then you found a campsite where the firewood ignites itself because someone before you didn’t properly drown and stir to extinguish their fire. Scary.
Yet another entertaining video well done. Question: you mentioned that the same trip on your T7 would have been more difficult and tiring. How about on your Norden 901? If my memory serves me correctly you have sold the Norden yet still curious about your opinion on its abilities on such terrain vs the T7
It looked like it was a great campsite based on all the dead soldiers ( Coors Light and others) on the table. What you needed was a nice steak for your rewards of the day, not dead packaged food. BAHH!
Thanks Ben & Tim, great in-depth exploration of this route. I'd ditch the Mountain House and get Packit Gourmet meals-far above MH in all respects! Their "grocery" section lets you actually cook if you want to. For example, using their F/D chicken and broth packets, and bringing seasonings and rice, I can make dinners like chicken with saffron rice & shallots. Takes about 20 minutes, and I have more time for my pipe, and a glass of cognac. Breakfasts are even easier.
toss the Mountain House stuff and pick up some Packit Gourmet meals. I've had both, and PG is FAR superior in every way. Plus, their "grocery" selection gives you the ability to actually cook rather than just heat water & chow down on a pop tart. For example, bringing seasoning and rice, I can have saffron rice with chicken and shallots
You might in the beginning of every episode do a quick status including the motorcycles in use, yours and those around you, and how they are doing for the ride you are on. After all, part of watching these videos is checking out the bikes and how they are holding up and doing. Any you are somewhat leaving that out! Come on man! That is frustrating. Maybe even the tires as well and how they are doing on the ride.
@@DorkintheRoad No offense taken. I could see it but with all the gear, couldn't tell what it was until you said it much later in a video. KTM 690 Enduro?

You are doing a great job banging out these videos. We appreciate the hard work, very entertaining.
Great video as always!!! BTW Coors Lite is NOT a beer =) It wants to be a beer but it's just not =) Just messing with you brother =) enjoy !
‘Twas an EXCELLENT episode. Very entertaining and enjoyed seeing some familiar spots. Section 3 is consistently challenging in a good fun way.
i like that you know the name of every geological feature. i dont know why but its enjoyable to hear your enthusiasm for the location

The 690 is ever so slightly more comfortable on the highway and can handle the extra miles between service.
