About the instruments they are playing:
Yamaha KX5 Keytar
Chick Corea uses during this concert the Yamaha KX5, a master laptop keyboard from 1984. This is a 37-key keyboard covering a range from C2 to C5 with MIDI connectors permitting the remote stand-up performance of the keyboard instruments.
Yamaha TRB JP TDR
John Patitucci plays the Yamaha TRB JP II, a 6-string electric bass. The TRB series was born during the'80s to cover a wider tonal range, both in the low and high frequencies. The four-layer laminate body is constructed from veneers of curly maple, ash, alder and maple. This design produces a precise and intense resonance throughout the instrument's register.
Ibanez 540S-LPF
Frank Gambale plays the 540S-LPF Dessert Yellow. His first signature model, the FGM100 (the first of the Frank Gambale series) by Ibanez, introduced in 1991 is based on this 540S-LPF but has different pickups. The FMG100 was one of the 15 guitars that had been stolen from Frank Gambale house in 2004.
Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone, serial #201695
Eric Marienthal always showed a predilection for the Alto Saxophone. The Mark VI was introduced by Selmer Paris in 1954. Many Jazz giants have used the Mark VI, including Dexter Gordon, Ornette Coleman, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter and John Coltrane.
Chick Corea Elektric Band stands the test of time, it is one of the greatest jazz fusion groups.
Pretty cool to hear this RTF song get the "Elektric Band" treatment and these guys not only do a fantastic job with this arrangement but they absolutely play their asses off. The highlight for me was seeing all of the members take turns with little solos, what a fantastic performance.
I loved this band so much - especially in '87. They were everything I ever wished I were as a guitar player and band member. I listened to them every day. Of course during the month before Chick passed I watched all the Elektric Band videos and was woodshedding Beneath the Mask Lifescape. I was in the middle of really getting into these guys again with hopes of seeing them live if they toured. Then Chick passed and this band, my favorite of them all will never be again. I am beyond sad.
R.I.P Chick Corea ( 1941 - 2021 )
People like them shouldn't die. Either way, they will stay alive through their music.
IMHO, this is a real master piece.
Thank you Chick... we miss you.
Thank you guys.
How could you not love these guys ...playing music with meaning and making you think where are they going next!!!.... I love it.
Weckl is playing a Yamaha 9000 Recording Custom. What a beast!
Chick Corea was/is the walking definition of poise while playing a musical instrument.
That Ken Smith sounds huuuuuge!
This was the perfect next chapter after Return to Forever!!! Just like in RTF, all of the members of the Elektric band are virtuosos!!!
I’m actually working on this tune right now, when you listen at half speed you hear all of Chicks chords, incredible harmony. (From the other live version- it seems like in this one they are jamming out more)
You can hear them at the normal speed too which is pretty good. 👍
Wow !!! I would love to see that transcription !!!
Thanks for uploading these, brilliant quality! This piece is just a crazy showcase of musicianship and compositional ability.
Incredible!!!! How does one go about memorizing such an intricate piece? So many deceptive rhythmic and harmonic twists and turns!
So cool to hear Chick’s Minimoog with this group. Almost makes them sound like RTF (especially playing this piece).
Funny you mention that...Chick originally wrote this piece for an RTF reunion tour in the early 80s, but they wound up never playing it. Chick resurrected it for the Elektric Band.
Best resolution version of this concert I've seen. Awesome
Brilliant! What an excellent upload, such a great listen.
Incredible musicians
It so weird to see Dave playing Zildjian. I wen to the reunion tour of this band a few years ago. Amazing!
I've always loved this tune. The only recording I could find of it anywhere was on that GRP Super Live In Concert double-CD, and that is a really great version too. I haven't seen or heard this one though, so thank you much for uploading this!
That tune was originally written for the Return to Forever Reunion Tour of 1983 along with 3 other pieces called "Caprice", "Prelude" and "The Phantom". They was never recorded in studio by RTF. However of Caprice there is a rendition in a 1995 Lenny White's recording called "Present Tense" with Chick on keyboards. "The Phantom" was recorded by Al Di Meola in 1991 on his "Kiss My Axe" record with Barry Miles and Rachel Z on keyboards
I was just going to post a question regarding the same exact issue! I initially guessed that it would have probable been on Eye of The Beholder.

Things That I noticed while LISTENING to this Performance , Just LITTLE MISTAKES or Didnt came out as Played : 1 ) at 3:38 DAVE hits the Cymbal off end of Fill , JOHN turns Around at DAVE Laughing , 2 ) at 5:14 JOHN bass Line solo phrase didnt came out that Great , Watch reaction of CHICK after that , ALSO FRANK guitar was Kinda Low at The mix compared to the Others .
who was in charge of mixing, Patitucci...?
nyc drumz Haha right? But it complements the song so well.
haha i know right
😁
Serious low frequencies at the start from John via whomever affected the mix, I have been using the same headphones and device to listen to music for 10 years, but never had I heard physical cone rattling, not really signal overload, but somehow the frequencies were just the right combination to affect my hardware like never before.
This music confuses me, I love it
❤❤❤🙏👍👍👍👍🎶🎶!

I could use me some of these chops..DAYUM.
Does anybody have any transcription of this tune?
My only comment .............. ridiculous! :-)
