If you are still in Eastern Serbia consider visiting Negotin and more importantly Rajačke and Rogljevačke "pimnice" (vine cellars). They are not really easy to reach up in the hills, but it's well worth it for sure!
sadly many places in easterm and southern parts of Serbia do look like a ghost towns in USA...Very run down and deserted. I think that Serbia need to have at least 10million people and to be very nicely dispersed so that many small town come to life...
Did you go to the tumuli on a nearby hill? This is were Galerius and his mother were buried. Beautiful ancient Roman site. Little did those builders and artists know how 2000 years later their work will still be admired. lol
The man @ 18.57 did not ask for money. He wanted to offer you a drink. He said, "I do not understand you", but mimicking an invite for the drink. People in Serbia always welcome quests and share their food and drinks, and always offer better portions to their guests. They are very well known for that. And people with a similar nature are all over the Balkans. Sad...
Dear Gabriel, watching your vlogs, thank you very much. Highly recommendation are serbian medieval orthodox monasteries protected by UNESCO as world heritage built by serbian kings from 11th to 13th century such as Sopoćani, Djurdjevi stupovi, Studenica, Župa, Mileševa, Ravanica, Petrova crkva (Peter's church) and on Kosovo Gračanica, Visoki Dečani, Bogorodica Ljeviška, Stara patrijaršija...

Serbian (Sombor) superstar Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets just defeated the LA Clippers to play for the Western NBA championship against the LA Lakers. Jokic led the team. He's an outstanding shooter from short and l-o-n-g range, and last night's TV crew called him the greatest big man passer of all time. He is probably the MVP of the western playoffs so far. I bet there are a lot of Serbian basketball fans following the Nuggets during these playoffs.
+Rocco> Yes, but he is ranked No.1 and is expected to win. Jokic and his team overcame all odds to win last night. Indeed there are other Serbs in popularity ahead of him, BUT he will be rising fast.
Yes, Denver Nuggets have the most fans in Serbia out of all NBA teams. We're talking about hardcore basketball fans. The last semifinal game against LA Clippers began at 3 a.m Serbian time and still a lot of fans were watching the game.
If they're not already on your list, back in Belgrade Beli Dvor (The white palace), Underground belgrade tour, Tesla museum in Belgrade, national museum in Belgrade, the rest of Serbia, national park Tara, Oplenac,Golubac fortress, Uvac River meanders, archeological site of Vinča, archeological site Lepenski vir..... Anybody else have any suggestions.......
In looking for more info on Felix Romuliana I stumbled upon a cool VR site called History in 3D. They have a section on this place illustrating how it probably would have appeared in its day. Also they have a nifty UA-cam video taking you through the place. Search "Felix Romuliana in 3D" and it shouldn't be hard to find.
You never make friends with locals- I think You miss a lot... (I don't mean the marker guys type). Probably it's just a precaution not to get in the trouble. But sometimes it's the best adventure to get in the trouble))
If you do, check out all the things that you can do in the city, because there is so much to see. There are a lot of historical landmarks, as well as natural beauties, which are not mentioned in these videos. Also, food is delicious in the local restaurants, so make sure to try food in 'kafana'. If you have more time, check Pirot and its surroundings, it only 70 km away from Nis. :)
Gabriel, Niš is also an ancient Roman city, Naissus. Serb that exploded the armory was Stevan Sindjelić and he was one of the leaders in the First Serbian Uprising against Ottoman oppression. There are more interesting things, both ruin and religious, down south in Kosovo. Please check and read about accessing those sites before traveling, as some that you choose to visit, might not be officially in Serbian territory (not to go into too much detail, just do your homework). Also, there are very nice places to visit along the river Ibar which is west of Niš. You can come up north to Belgrade and/or Novi Sad when you are done exploring south by using this road along Ibar river called Ibarska Magistrala. On another note, out of respect and just in general so you can access some of these sites (if you decide to visit), please wear trousers and closed toe shoes. You will not be able to enter in shorts and sandals. Good luck and have fun!
Just a suggestion from me, I think the videos would be better without any music, I feel it takes away from the seriousness of some situations, like the tower of skulls
Hey Gabriel, I am your neighbor ( northern California resident) I need your help. I am flying solo and I am 200 years old , LOL~ to Serbia the first week of October. In your honest opinion , will it be safe to go to Serbia alone by myself? I plan on renting a car and just drive around Serbia. What is the likelihood of my return flight being cancelled? I checked State Department website and travel advisory suggest essential travel (level 3) to Serbia. I don't trust state department website sometimes. I've been to places where they were not right as far as travel advisory is concerned. I'd rather trust your honest opinion and also from travel bloggers who are now in Serbia. Am desperate to get away from the fire and this crazy election.Heck, I'd even go to Pluto if I can just to be away from all these chaos especially from California.
Yeah you should be good man, gotta be better than the virus, election mayhem and daily smoke inhalation back in Cali. Plus it's so affordable out here. I rented my car from Sixt and can recommend them, only $25 a day. I booked rooms on booking.com on the same day I needed them, sometimes just a few minutes before I arrived in town. So you can just drive around and explore and you'll have a great time. Safe travels.
mel, welcome to Serbia! I am so glad that you will visit my country. I was in many countries in Europe and I think Serbia is so safe for travelling and visiting, better than in many countries. My suggestion is to see the fresco White Angel, this is the first picture that was sent as a message in the first satellite broadcast signal from Europe to America after the Cuban Missile Crisis, as a symbol of peace and civilization. Read here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Angel
Thanks Gabriel. Just a small correction. I am a 200 year old woman Traveling to Serbia alone , so that explains my so many questions. LOL .thanks for the tip from a seasoned traveler like you.
Between Niš and Zaječar is Knjaževac(seen in the clip). There is the Gurgusovačka tower in it,which was a prison during the Ottoman Empire. Nearby of the road to Zaječar is the village Ravna. It contains the remains of the Roman military fortress Timacum Minus. When you go from Knjaževac to Pirot, there is the village Donja Kamenica, where there is an Orthodox church from the 14th century by an unknown founder.
It freaked me out how abandoned and ruined that place looks like... no wonder the guy sits in front of the market and drink himself to death... seems a daily routine for him... didn’t mean no harm though. 😔 didn’t catch the name of that place...
Hey gabriel jw how much do you typically spend on a trip like this jw I might plan a trip somewhere in the near future you don't have to give the exact amount but a estimate
I couldn't give you a number because I don't keep track. I just make sure there's still something left in my bank account. But I try to drop some clues by telling the prices of rooms, meals, rental cars, attractions. Also it depends a lot on where you are. Croatia was a lot more expensive than Serbia. And it depends whether you rent a car or not, whether you stay in private rooms or hostels, etc. But a country like Serbia you could easily travel on $30 a day if you kept it simple, or more like $60-80 a day if you get private rooms and rent a car.
In that area was very developed agricultural in past and 1989 small airfield was build for agricultural planes for spraying mostly cherry, vineyard plantation...For that purpose that plane(PZL-104 Wilga 35A) you saw in video was bought from USA for 60 000 $. That place has big plans for big modern airfield in future, but didn't happen. Now plane is there just like a monument to remind on better times.
I asked him about it and the brickwork was reconstructed. None of the original ruins from the 4th century BC can be seen, it's all buried in the ground. But much of the rock walls, etc. are original from Roman times.

@packsaddlemaker pozdrav brate, Bog ti pomogao! Naravno da postoji stari Srpski kalendar, malo se bolje raspitaj i o staroj Srpskoj kulturi pa ćeš saznati mnogo toga zanimljivog ! Zdravo ostaj!

You aren't missing a thing in the US right now it's only about COVID, hurricane Sally, and the damn election.
Thank you, I've watched for years now, just love ya🤙
Perhaps if you live in a world crafted by the mainstream media narrative.. Maybe you should turn off the TV once in a while and go enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. It's good for your mental health. Everywhere has its own problems. But I doubt Gabe traveled to Serbia to concern himself with the ongoing political issues there.
He also isn’t missing the poor air quality in Northern California due to wildfires as that is the area he is from! Hope his Northern California relatives are doing okay!
Covid is an HOAX ! Wake up !
@@gertjanvandermeij4265 This is not the place for your political views. You either just comment on the video or get lost.

I enjoyed this plunge into history very much 👍, great vid as always.
Waw. the place is very beautiful and historic👍
Very nice👍
it's creepy how old it is... 1700 years man, enough said
The first time I saw a video of yours was one here in Sofia, Bulgaria(I assume that's why youtube suggested it to me).
It's funny how I kept watching for so long and now you are almost back here again :) I'm glad you are interested in and like our weird corner of the world.
Not weird, just specific.
@@goranmarinic2923 It's weird to outsiders :)
Eastern Europe is definitely one of my favorite areas to explore. So much to see that's interesting and relatively undiscovered.
@@MrJx4000 nah it's not war it is economic migration
@@BJN87M : Original inhabitants are in Germany or Belgrade ?
Excellent music as you were exploring the ruin. Cheers amigo.
You need to visit a Golubac fortress, it’s beautiful. 🙂
Gabriel's Instagram shows that he did. My guess is that video should be out in the near future.
Yep, next video. It's not far from Felix Romuliana so it worked into my trip perfectly.
Gabriel Traveler Yes, I'm glad to hear that. Enjoy touring Serbia.
Hi Gab, I am watching from Nepal. LOVE from Nepal.
@@30sandrita1 Saw it now... great!
I hope someday to make a trip to Serbia...but until then I at least have your coverage...thanks so much...
Nice you went back and offered money even though he didn't take it! It shows you care about others probably much less fortunate than yourself.
They don't make 'em like Gabriel anymore. We the viewers should have him knighted.
the guy offered gabriel a beer, he didn't want any money in the first place. he offered him something, he didn't ask for anything.
if you are already in this part of serbia i would recommend to you to go to vratna and some other places around there
afterwards u could drive back to the airport with the road next to the danube
Enjoyed the video, cheers
Ciao.. Gabriel.. Amazing... Wonderful.. Place... Mille grazie 🍀
Great stuff,
Keep it going 😀😀
You should also maybe check out Viminacium if you are interested in Roman sites. It's near the town of Kostolac.
4:34 Don't touch those plants. They might be a variety of Deadly Nightshade.
Interesting to see the food you buy at the market.
Not necessarily what I wanted but more a matter of picking what's there and will do the trick. The halva was a nice surprise though, delicious.
@@30sandrita1 Halva is actually an Arabic sweet.

Scary tower man!.. I enjoyed your trip 👍🙏
Great video, as always! If you have time, be sure to visit monastery Manasija and Lisine waterfall near Despotovac town.
Also, Eastern Serbia is magical and fascinating region to explore.
Loving this trip!
Can't forget Serbia's biggest star Novak Djokovic.
Bio je na Tari. :) The most important things in Serbia are monasteries.
@@abstractionart3736 yeah, I just saw I missed his Tara trip
In looking for more info on Felix Romuliana I stumbled upon a cool VR site called History in 3D. They have a section on this place illustrating how it probably would have appeared in its day. Also they have a nifty UA-cam video taking you through the place. Search "Felix Romuliana in 3D" and it shouldn't be hard to find.
You never make friends with locals- I think You miss a lot... (I don't mean the marker guys type). Probably it's just a precaution not to get in the trouble. But sometimes it's the best adventure to get in the trouble))
These kind of places always creep me out.
In Knjaževac in the village of Ravna, there is the same Roman plant Timacum minus .... Worth a look .. 👍👍👍
Nis looks amazing! I'll definitely be heading there next month!
Also make sure to go to Subotica. I didn't make it there but wanted to see it, looks like one of the coolest places to see in Serbia.
Gabriel Traveler thanks a lot bro! I'll definitely stop by! Safe travels!
That guy on 19:00 wanted to pay you for one drink but unfortunately he doesn't speak English.
... what a show 🤣🤣🤣 ... compliments ... just keep going Gabriel, ... all the best to you 👍👍👍
That guy 19:08 offered you a drink as his treat, he did not want your money 😊 thanks for these videos, we love to have you here 🌹
Just a suggestion from me, I think the videos would be better without any music, I feel it takes away from the seriousness of some situations, like the tower of skulls
impressive tour. very interesting bit of history. you are all alone amazing. not hundreds of people crunching you and 'free'.

Annd between i live near Grabovac Jerjinin Grad and i ve never visit it , im ashamed that i need these kind of videos to think about it
Super
LOL that dude wanted to get drunk with you
That's what I figured. But I was on a mission.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos yea he wanted to pay a beer for you.
Beer, ghost towns and rental cars are a risky combination.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos ok cool thanks for the great tips

That airplane parked by the road looked like it might have crashed. I wonder what its story was.....

Hi, the music is always listed in the description below the video.

I think the old man that can't talk 19:02 was asking you in sign language if you wanted a beer.
the builders of the ruins need to give our modern builders a tip or too! all that brickwork still standing well
I asked him about it and the brickwork was reconstructed. None of the original ruins from the 4th century BC can be seen, it's all buried in the ground. But much of the rock walls, etc. are original from Roman times.
Amazing stuff perfect timing any advice where to get a COVID 19 test for a us citizen so I can enter Croatia
