Wander Over Yonder is a deeply special show to me, and I think the thing that struck me the most when I watched it so many years ago was Wander himself. I was so often used to heroes with epic powers that single-handedly take on the bad guys and save the universe in big climactic battles that it was genuinely jarring to see a hero whose entire purpose was just… going around and helping people with incredibly trivial shit out of the kindness of his heart. And that’s kind of the thing - despite seeming really cliche, if you think about it, Wander is genuinely such an unconventional hero. Yeah he does some epic hero shit from time to time but for the most part he’s just a guy who helps people out with their tiny, everyday matters. And that hit me hard. Because like… that’s what being good in real life often is. It’s not fighting a bad guy and saving the day in epic climactic battles, so often it’s just doing what you can, every single day. Donating money to charity. Volunteering at a charity. Organising politically to enact important social changes. Doing good in real life is so often painfully mundane and tedious, and it often feels like you aren’t making much of a difference in the big picture, especially if you go into it expecting to feel like a grand superhero. And here’s Wander, who revels in the joy of even the smallest, most mundane acts of kindness. I fully recognise that I’m reading perhaps way too much into a simple children’s show, but Wander really did strike me as such a unique hero in this regard.
Yeah, I heard that the third season was going to be more serious but never happened (though it was in very early stages of being written since the show actually got cancelled at the beginning of its second season). (Or more like was confirmed that a third season wasn’t going to be made.)
I would go so far as to say that woy is one of the best cartoons of all time, on not just technical levels but character and storytelling as well. It may not be complex but the simplicity works in its favor.
Wander Over Yonder, Gravity Falls and SVTFOE (before the shipping trashfire it became) used to be my everything, I'm happy to find someone actually talking about this show bc it feels really forgotten and even when it was airing, I never found anyone to talk about it with
When i was 9 i was hyperfixated in this show. I wouldn’t shut up about it to the other kids in my class and i even forced my friends to play games inspired by woy with me. I created a guide sheet and i made storyboards of my ideas for episodes on flash cards :’) I still love this show even in college and im sad we never got a season 3. I wanted to know everything about the monkey villain and lord hater’s past but alas disney shut it down :’)
What I love the most about Wander Over Yonder and what makes it so unique is that it tries to bring back that classic essence that many of us have come to see in our childhood (especially people who grew up in the 80s and 90s era) with a fast and exaggerated humor very similar to the Looney Tunes. At the same time it tries to be a cartoon that catches up with beautiful, pleasant and cartoony visuals. Each episode is a great adventure that parodies the typical cartoon cliches of yesteryear and manages to do it in a very creative and brilliant way. The characters are great and charming, especially Wander who is my favorite. In addition, each episode has a moral but unlike any other cartoon, since it tries to give us moral lessons on how to be a better person, how to treat your friends, how to treat your enemies and that it is also important to help. That's why I think that in my opinion Wander Over Yonder has become one of the wholesome and funniest modern cartoons I've seen in so many years. Nice video, friend.
I loved this show while growing up but stoped watching it in tv because my time didn't match up when it was on anymore I totaly forgot it existed until like 3 weeks ago, it left such a big impact on my development but since I was kinda small (and have shitty memory) I mostly thought it was a feaver dream (untill I saw a video on tiktok and was shocked) Benched the hell out of it and I loved it so much just like when I was younger It is definitely a "kids show", but it's SO GREAT Very well made, there is actual continuity (odd for what used to be kids shows) and the characters do have a story behind them, but its up to the viewer if they want to "do a wonder" an analize that stuff or just accept as it is You can enjoy it any way I wish the show was more popular, it deserves it (English is not my first lenguaje, sorry for any mistakes)
Sylvia is actually my mom's favorite character in the show! She finds her very relatable. Besides, the show needs Sylvia to balance out Wanders wanderiness.
This show was a massive part of my childhood and im so glad to see people talk about it! I remember when i was like 9 or 10 and we were learning about space and just how massive it was my first thought was basically 'Holy crap wonder over yonder real'. This show has so much charm and love in it and its honestly one of the few shows I actively miss and want to see come back! It even inspired the world buliding, lore, and characters of my own story despite it being the oppisite of woy in so many ways. It's always a joy rewatching this show for me, every rewatch i find something new to love!
I would die for a 3rd Season and find a way to come back, it didn't get the attention it deserved. the songs were a blast, the plot got way better than you'd expect for show like this and Lord Dominator was probably the perfect Villain for the show, the same way Discord imo was for MLP
A work of fiction is truly good when one suddenly gets "Awesomeness Withdrawal" come its end, especially if it feels like it's cut short. Trust me, if I have to say different yet similar takes, there's Star Wars' Republic Commando (especially the video game, the novel tie-ins apart from Hard Contact are a tad bit divisive), video gaming's Titanfall 2 and Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising, live action film's The Italian Job (the original, to be specific, though the more directly ended remake is still great) and Jason and the Argonauts 1963, and anime's Girls' Last Tour (though the manga is at least complete) and Kemono Friends (we don't talk about the second season).
This show absolutely got me through the last few months of online school in 2021. I can’t express just how much I love it, how much it means to me, but yeah, if you’re seeing this comment and still haven’t watched it, go give it a shot
Well Sylvia, Hater, and Wander do have a backstory and the creators wanted to give emphasis on both of their characters’ past but it was cancelled so we’re left to fan fiction.
I just subscribed after watching your TOH/Amphibia pilot video because I realised how many of your videos I actually watched (yes the advertisement helped lmao) and I just wanted to say I appreciate how you use DK music as I'm currently knee deep in a Tropical Freeze playthrough
Wonderful essay!!! I’ve been scouring the internet for video essays about this show and this is really great. This fandom is very much an endangered species. I love these characters so much and will never forgive Disney for canceling season 3
This show seems to be the black sheep of Craig McCracken’s body of work according to the Internet. I strongly disagree, since I love this art style and this show’s supersonic pacing. Great to see that I’m not along in loving Wander Over Yonder.
Wander Over Yonder is my favorite show ever! Wander is just a silly little guy, and that's all I need. There is only 1 episode that I don't like: The Boy Wander. Everything else is perfect!
I prefered all the other characters way more than Wonder. He's the worst even 🤣🤣🤣 The Dominator is a 'to die for' (out of love) character. She's evil just for evil's sake, which is sooooooooo unusual these days. Also her song slaps
SO GLAD SOMEONE IS STILL TALKING ABOUT THIS SHOW!!!! it deserves absolutely EVERYTHING!!!
THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING!!! I LOVED THE SHOW EVER SINCE I DISCOVERED IT!

I keep this close to my heart too
Someone decided to talk about this cartoon? It's cool!
I'll say.
A lot of people have I can’t remember any names tho
So we’re just not gonna mention how angsty backstories casually started slipping in later and we’ll never know the whole picture
Yeah, I heard that the third season was going to be more serious but never happened (though it was in very early stages of being written since the show actually got cancelled at the beginning of its second season). (Or more like was confirmed that a third season wasn’t going to be made.)
It hurts. It hurts so bad
I would go so far as to say that woy is one of the best cartoons of all time, on not just technical levels but character and storytelling as well. It may not be complex but the simplicity works in its favor.
THE WOY FANDOM LIVES! We're small, and there's not many of us, but still! We live!
It's surprising, but the fandom is still here. Mostly on tumblr and twitter.
Wander Over Yonder, Gravity Falls and SVTFOE (before the shipping trashfire it became) used to be my everything, I'm happy to find someone actually talking about this show bc it feels really forgotten and even when it was airing, I never found anyone to talk about it with

It’s always great to see more and more people talking about this show!!!! 😁😁❤❤❤❤❤
Man, I remember this show! I haven't heard much about it in quite some time, I should check it out again all these years later
I loved this show while growing up but stoped watching it in tv because my time didn't match up when it was on anymore

Benched the hell out of it and I loved it so much just like when I was younger
It is definitely a "kids show", but it's SO GREAT
Very well made, there is actual continuity (odd for what used to be kids shows) and the characters do have a story behind them, but its up to the viewer if they want to "do a wonder" an analize that stuff or just accept as it is
You can enjoy it any way
I wish the show was more popular, it deserves it
(English is not my first lenguaje, sorry for any mistakes)
Please do an extension, I'd love to see it!
Sylvia is actually my mom's favorite character in the show! She finds her very relatable. Besides, the show needs Sylvia to balance out Wanders wanderiness.
Love this show
I just finished rewatching this show, and I'm so glad to be suggested this video.
(GOSH, I wish we had more of this show. ;n;)

I totally agree with you

i will now watch this show.
Yesss, mission accomplished!!
MAANNNN WOY is so criminally underrated!! It’s one of my favorite shows ever!
I wish the fandom wasnt dead :(
Me too. #Savewoy
This show absolutely got me through the last few months of online school in 2021. I can’t express just how much I love it, how much it means to me, but yeah, if you’re seeing this comment and still haven’t watched it, go give it a shot
People never appreciate things until their gone.
Finally, someone made a video about this show.
gonna be real with you this is still my favorite show lol. Hates great best villain and all that!
Well Sylvia, Hater, and Wander do have a backstory and the creators wanted to give emphasis on both of their characters’ past but it was cancelled so we’re left to fan fiction.
This is my Favorite Disney Channel Cartoon I seen. 🧡
I binged it twice
#SaveWOY!!!

I saw this show a couple years ago and I LOVED IT!
Wonderful essay!!! I’ve been scouring the internet for video essays about this show and this is really great. This fandom is very much an endangered species. I love these characters so much and will never forgive Disney for canceling season 3

Lore of The Simple Brilliance of Wander Over Yonder momentum 100
Wander for life yipeeeee
I made an oc for this show and still draw them too this day~.
YESSSSSSS
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!1
This show is ridiculous but great!
Wander as a character kinda reminds me of Mario just more naive.
Theres a SavWoY on that petition sight
Bowser in the Mario Movie is literally Lord Hater and it makes me upset that no one knows who that is when I make the comparisons >:l
This show seems to be the black sheep of Craig McCracken’s body of work according to the Internet. I strongly disagree, since I love this art style and this show’s supersonic pacing. Great to see that I’m not along in loving Wander Over Yonder.

I ❤❤❤❤❤❤love WOY. It is hilarious and wholesome.
could you do a video about the buzz lightyear cartoon?
I think that one is really good.
Wander Over Yonder is my favorite show ever! Wander is just a silly little guy, and that's all I need.
There is only 1 episode that I don't like: The Boy Wander. Everything else is perfect!

Fancy Party episode Does Sylvia got Lisa Simpson's necklace?
What is you’re accent?! Scottish? American? Fortnite UA-camr?!
This show is way better than Steven Universe Teen Titans Go and Velma by far
YES
for steven universe it is debatable
