In the same vein but very well written is Cien Años de Soledad, by Gabriel Garcia Márquez. The town is the main character in the book and it was written in the 80s
I found the book cliche and boring as well. I think that if you're earlier into your reading journey, or really love cozy books this will appeal to you. But I've seen those tricks done before and I want something new to me. Also I wanted to dig deeper into the characters and we didn't (to my satisfaction). But that's just my subjective opinion
@@Spineless_Books yea.. and then I realized that it's second part and not the "original". so my initial thought when I watched your video was that you also started from 2nd book because I was also confused during reading. i haven't started first book its seems like the buzz simmered down in my area
@@Spineless_Books yes, and "the tales" are also 4 short stories so my initial thought was "oh, this video is about the second book. Maybe we don't understand it and don't see the genius because it's like floppy seconds" but now I'm curious about the 3rd book and is it going to be the same
I liked it
And the time travel rules were repeated like a dozen times. Very much giving Bart Simpson writing on the blackboard over and over lol
Exactly! I felt like I could go into the cafe and time travel but I couldn’t follow the characters
I literally just finished this book and agree so hard with you!
I’m so glad I’m not the only one - I had such high expectations!

Very cool! I’ll have to check it out. Have you read North Woods?

Honestly, probably not if it’s more of the same. Have you read it?

@sofiyakinash9189 not sure what you mean… did you read tales from the cafe? I read the first book - the one with the teal cover.

@sofiyakinash9189 I’m guessing they are all just more vignettes from what I’ve read about them. But I think I’m done with reading this series!

Just sharing my opinion! You are free to have yours as well. :)
