my bbshd build from 1.5 years ago died on me in the beginning of a ride and haven't been able to turn it back on. The battery was full but the temp drop shut it off, haven't been able to turn it back on. Do you think I need a new battery or controller in this case? I just came across your channel you have great videos :)

Well, it can be broken BMS in the battery or controller on the motor. The easiest way to check it is to connect motor to different battery or DC power supply. Then you will see, if you can switch the motor ON.

I just completed my build with a cyc x1pro on a mongoose full squish. I used that same chain tensioner and it disintegrated in the first half mile. Pushed it back home and ordered a little beefier pulley. I found one with a solid pulley and reduced the spring tension because I don't need to strum a "C#" on my chain. Also fell on my enormous head on the second ride so I'm pricing helmets today. The weight of the bike effectively doubled when I put the motor and battery on and the balance/center of gravity way different. Was probably not my best idea to try a new thing on a trail covered in wet leaves. I actually went with the Shimano Nexus 5sp IGH and stitched the wheel together myself, way easier than I thought it would be however I did make that classic rookie mistake and the valve is in the wrong place.

You should not ride without helmet in the forest. Hitting your head against rock during fall will be the end of all fun, look at Schumi.

Sounds like the setup I’ve been looking for a “spare” bike - simple and *as light as is practicable,* no need for speeds above 12 mph/ 20 kmh… decent hill-climbing ability, can tow lighter trailer (to and from hotels, for instance)…

If you use highest acceptable voltage for the controller, you will get much bigger top speed than 20 kmh.

@@LierskogenEbikes true, but for a “spare” bike - I’m not sure it would be needed.
I rarely go much above that speed as it is - usually between 12 and 17 mph, unless an emergency. This is the case even when needing to cover 50 or so miles per day (when paying bills, for example - ATM, grocery store, dentist (need to prepay for dental work next August) then a medical equipment provider, then a few other places prior to getting home.
Would do that day after tomorrow except it’s supposed to be *really* wet and I don’t have decent rain gear at this time - and staying wet for hours when it’s *that* cold is a bad idea for someone who’s getting on in years, e.g. “retirement age.”

may i ask which cassette you used as the donor? its really hard to find a cassette without weight saving cutouts on the bigger cogs... thanks!

I finally took 25 teeth ring from the cheapest steel 8 speed shimano casette and just drilled 6 mounting holes for the boss adapter. Or mount ready available single speed ring from Ali.

Nice, you can also use this way bigger Chain sizes.?

Yep, single speed chain is perfect. Much stronger than other types.

I have my cyc x1 pro for 2 years now and never had problems with my 10 speed xt but my cassette body looks even worse than yours but my cassette was always fine. But i killed many sprag clutches in the motor but never ripped a chain

@@fynnchiboy1060 With ASI BAC855 you need gears for this motor. But with X6 controller you get much higher torque along the whole spectrum of RPMs. Gears become obsolete in that case.

      E.g. #415 chain, which is 3/16 , 4.8mm, wide??? (Regular single speed = 1/8, 3.2mm)
