  • The Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR) is one of many primitive reflexes.
    .
It is designed to help with muscle tone and gravity.
    .
The two movement patterns of the TLR are:
1️⃣ Forward / flexion - when the eyes travel down and the person looks down
2️⃣ Backwards / extension - when the eyes travel up and the person looks up
    .
The TLR should integrate into the body to make way for higher level movement patterns by no later than 3 years of age.
    .
Some signs that an older child might have a retained TLR:
⭐ Low muscle tone and poor endurance
    ⭐ Visual perception challenges
⭐ Poor sense of spatial relations
    ⭐ Signs of dyslexia
    ⭐ Decreased bilateral coordination

Try this activity with your child!
It may be tricky at first, but practice it and make sure you try it yourself!
    .
Start with just a couple of reps to practice and then work your way up to completing more reps with good control.
    .
You can place targets on the wall to help your child visually follow the ball in their hands to tap the target.
    .
Also, be sure to complete a heavy work activity afterwards, because the head position changes of this activity may be alerting or overstimulating!
