Just FYI - this video seemed to be less about the real reasons for Pope Benedict's resignation and much more about the conclave of electing a new pope, and all the pomp and circumstance, as well as glorification of hallowed church tradition, that goes along with it. I would have preferred more depth and focus on the reasons for Benedict's resignation; we all know that Benedict resigned amidst a flurry of many different scandals, but tell me more, besides just naming or identifying the scandals, please...

Whoever wrote the title of this video is dishonest at best. This has nothing to do with any "real" reason that Benedict resigned (as if we were all under a previous misconception). After a long pontificate like the one of Karol Woityla, it is a long tradition in the Catholic Church to elect a very old Pope to insure a rather short pontificate - as a transition towards the next long pontificate. But medicine has advanced so much and life expectancy has risen so much, that even electing an 80 year old pope doesn't ensure a short pontificate. Chances are high that he might live until 90 or even 100. So it is only natural that new ways have to be found in this modern world we are living in and voluntary retirement is the very best solution. It doesn't help anybody to have a geriatric bedridden Pope for years.
The qualities and qualifications conclave takes into consideration are only gained through time, and experience. Have you ever met a bishop, or cardinal under 60? That being said many modern Catholics, especially in America, see the Vatican as a museum. Filled with holy relics, the bones of ACTUAL saints, and beautiful art. The astronomical, and scientific institute is the most advanced by far. But the corruption that has disgraced our faith for millenia refuses to die. We like the pope, but the days of believing he's the embodiment of christ are long gone.

Benedict announced to his closest confidants he would resign, rather than die in office, many years before 2013. I was told about it in early 2011 and was allowed to photograph the ex-convent/monastery where he would be living. None of this was really a surprise.

When Pope John Paul 2 died,I would say the Election of Pope Benedict XV1 was the right choice for the next Pope.I would say the same for Pius X11 and Paul V1.

Benedict was 78 when he was Elected, and 86 when he Resigned.I feel the Real Reason was his Health and Strength to carry on.If I am correct Benedict,enter the Vatican Curia in 1980 for argument sake. He held Important Positions in the Curia, and he was the Dean of the Sacred College of Cardinals.He was Pope John Paul 2, right-hand man in every aspect.Therefore that is 25 years in the Curia, from 1980 to 2005,before he was Elected Pope.He was Pope for 8 years.He has been Pope Emeritus for 9 years now. You add up all though years,25 + 8 + 9 = 42 years service in the Vatican. There have been two other Popes who have spent most of their life’s in the Curia and the Vatican,and they are Pius X11 and Paul V1.

The Hebrews preferred to use "The Lord", "The Most High", "The Lord of Hosts" and other ways of referring to God. Nowadays Orthodox Jews maintain these practices, and avoid saying the name of God, which is it sin to utter. Therefore your whole comment is nonsense, because none of the people you quote would ever have pronounced the Name of God, or written it down in full. I take it you are denying that Jesus was the Saviour. Why not simply say that, instead of piling up quotations where you insert the word "Yah" where others would put "The Lord" etc.

It contributed to him resigning not just that he was feeling weak and unable to be a good Pope. this was an extremely interesting video, but as many people have pointed out, does not live up to its title, which is very disingenuous. there are many videos like this on you tube with misleading titles. but it was very comforting to watch a tradition which has been in place for many years to elect one of the most important religious leaders in the world.

The Catholic Church does not have more than 2,000 years of history. It was established, and begun, by Constantine close to 320 AD. Peter was never a Pope, he was an apostle. Refer to Mattew 16:15-17 inclusive. It is Jesus' testimony that He is the Son of God, Messiah, who will build his own church, not by the authority of one single man. When Jesus says build your house upon the rock, would anyone think He meant Peter ?? God calls Himself the Rock (Petra), several times throughout scripture, and in Matthew 16:18. Counted at least 59 instances where God/Jesus is called "the Rock" in scripture. Petros describes a small individual stone, a pebble. "You are Peter (Petros, pebble), and on "this" rock (Himself, Petra, bedrock) I will build my church." The Catholic Church is a man made denomination that convinced most of the middle age population that they were the only way to God (the most outstanding claim of all cults). They ruled with fear and violence, even over Kings, for centuries. That is until some of the population finally had access to God's Word (strictly forbidden by the Catholic organization). The real truth began to appear and thousands were murdered for as little as reciting the Lord's Prayer. The CHURCH is not a denomination, or building, the Pope is not God's voice on Earth, the Catholic Org., along with several other "churches", teaches false doctrine. Read God's Word, the plain ordinary original cannon, not a corrupted version of any denomination.

I am nt Catholic by any stretch of the imagination but perhaps he resigned because of all the scandals attached to the Catholic Church. My friend of 44 years brother was one of the men hand selected by Benedict to go over the financial records and the scandals uncovered probably broke his spirit if not his faith. I know it would mine.
I believe that Pope Benedict XVI's would never have resigned. The fact that he did indicates that he was scared about something coming to light about himself which would affect the Church he was leading. The historical precedent protecting leaders in the Catholic Church kept the thing that Pope Benedict XVI was scared about from coming to the surface. Could it be something about "the protection of priests involved with clerical abuse by him before he became Pope" could have caused all of this?

In a monastery building specially converted for him ans his household, in the gardens of the small city-state in the heart of Italy's capital Rome. He never leaved the Vatican.

The catholic church which itself has a long checkered history has nonetheless often been a moral template at least when the west was less secular, a faith some looked to to temper the excesses of the markets and politics. Now the church is forced given it's central location at the heart of the west to become an apologist for emerging values, become more "progressive" not per church doctrine but interpret doctrine to legitimize current secular practice. In essence it is the secular social trends dictating church norms not vice versa and the church in order to remain relevant is becoming amenable. But if the church becomes like the extremes of society what appeal does it have to those who seek moral stability, if the church is pliable to moral decay and prone to scandals what light does it radiate to an increasingly self and material centric orientation of life. The church has always had a tendency to ingratiate itself with whatever dominant normative power or values of the day, from it's flirtation with Rome to those of medieval Europe and the post war powers hence all continuity with the first century message of Jesus his brother James and all who knew him has gradually been whittled down until all that is left are arcane rituals and the mercy of the European values of the day. The church may have been steadfast if there had been no interpolation of it's first century christian creed of moral simplicity whatever the outside pressures from those who are not of moral faith.
I am sorry.....have you read the history of the Roman Catholic church. How can you possibly suggest that it is outside influence that has created the sewer that it is and has been through out its history. If you look at the horrific events that the Catholic church have been deeply involved in, then you cannot make out that it is a victim of outside influences rather than the instigator of its own despotism. He was the person in charge of the German Roman Catholic church at a time of institutionalised child abuse, with the many of the perpetrators being hidden away and the Roman Catholic church has refused to work with the German Authorities to bring them to justice. The doc is informative but dodged the depth of the issue stated by its title. Why did Pope Benedict step down? It contributed to him resigning not just that he was feeling weak and unable to be a good Pope. That was the reason given to the public that he was not well enough to carry out the office of the Pope.

I am nt Catholic by any stretch of the imagination but perhaps he resigned because of all the scandals attached to the Catholic Church. My friend of 44 years brother was one of the men hand selected by Benedict to go over the financial records and the scandals uncovered probably broke his spirit if not his faith. He still resides in the Vatican in his own quarters. My understanding is that he suffers from some type of dementia which makes serving as Pope impossible but I am not 100% sure. Old age stinks. The body declines. Then we die. What are you going to do?

The catholic church which itself has a long checkered history has nonetheless often been a moral template at least when the west was less secular, a faith some looked to to temper the excesses of the markets and politics.
Now the church is forced given it's central location at the heart of the west to become an apologist for emerging values, become more "progressive" not per church doctrine but interpret doctrine to legitimize current secular practice. In essence it is the secular social trends dictating church norms not vice versa and the church in order to remain relevant is becoming amenable.
But if the church becomes like the extremes of society what appeal does it have to those who seek moral stability, if the church is pliable to moral decay and prone to scandals what light does it radiate to an increasingly self and material centric orientation of life.
The church has always had a tendency to ingratiate itself with whatever dominant normative power or values of the day, from it's flirtation with Rome to those of medieval Europe and the post war powers hence all continuity with the first century message of Jesus his brother James and all who knew him has gradually been whittled down until all that is left are arcane rituals and the mercy of the European values of the day. The church may have been steadfast if there had been no interpolation of it's first century christian creed of moral simplicity whatever the outside pressures from those who are not of moral faith.
I am sorry.....have you read the history of the Roman Catholic church. How can you possibly suggest that it is outside influence that has created the sewer that it is and has been through out its history. If you look at the horrific events that the Catholic church have been deeply involved in, then you cannot make out that it is a victim of outside influences rather than the instigator of its own despotism.
He was the person in charge of the German Roman Catholic church at a time of institutionalised child abuse, with the many of the perpetrators being hidden away and the Roman Catholic church has refused to work with the German Authorities to bring them to justice. He was instrumental in this (allegiedly) and the abdicates at the height of the questions over his involvement and knowledge of what went on and by who, as well signing off their removal and hiding. Amazing that his residency does not allow him to be extradited to answer the questions regarding child abuse, and the Roman Catholic church has refused to turn over documentation that would show his complicity in hiding it.

The doc is informative but dodged the depth of the issue stated by its title. Why did Pope Benedict step down? As Nai Man stated and as a Catholic myself we need to inform ourselves of the issue as we will go further in the depths of darkness. Ignorance isn’t a bliss in this issue as we lay closer to the daemons.
Pope Benedict gave the answer in his speech of resignation. He was having health problems and couldn't carry out the duties of the job any more. That's it, folks. Unless you say he was lying.
