Welcome back, I'm glad you're feeling better. I love plastic ukes and I love the look of this one. I'd be very tempted, if it wasn't for the size of the nut and the fact that I only ever play my Flukes.
Thanks for another great, honest, and unbiased review. I have learnt a lot from your blog and videos, as have many others. Your opinions make a lot of sense to me; if some entrepreneur doesn't like your opinion because they have a vested interest in overselling, then that's their problem. Hope you're in a good head space now mate, the support for you here is lovely to see. We'd all miss your regular reviews, and it's great that you've decided not to let the bugger get you down. Ka pai to you sir, and much aroha from NZ.
Great to see you back and looking disgustingly healthy 😜 I was really hoping that this uke was going to be brilliant because I love the funky look of it. Alas, not to be. This actually serves to highlight one aspect of the work you do on this channel; ‘looks aren’t everything!’ Please keep doing what you’re doing Baz, it really is essential work for us less than tech-savvy music lovers. I just wish my pension would stretch far enough, to be able to offer more monetary support. Some critics seem to forget that the service/entertainment you provide, via Gotaukulele, is FREE. I have definitely come to trust your reviews and wish I found your Channel much sooner. Perhaps if I did, I would have made a better first choice of ukulele. it wasn't a terrible choice, I just felt I was misled by the overflow of positive reviews of the brand. I learned later, the company offered free gifts and even reimbursements for positive reviews. But that is the past, and I have become more educated thanks to your videos. They are also entertaining. I enjoy watching from the duds to the studs, and everything in between. Happy you're back!, and looking forward to more. 😃 🎵
Thanks for that - appreciated - sadly the brands offering inducements are on the increase. They don’t give a damn about players - only making more money

Wow I just tested negative and had Covid for 3 weeks! Glade to see you back. Remember you do this for us not a store and I thank you! Some people don’t realize that plastic instruments have been around for many many years. They were cheaper in the beginning but now there are some really nice plastic instruments guitars and ukuleles. This one looks nice but I think the nut would be too small for me as well. You could learn on it if you put your own dots on the side and at the 10th and of course change the strings, but this one is definitely not for me. Thanks as always and keep them coming!👍🏼
I sat on this comment, but decided to send it now. When you didn't post a review last week, I was actually worried "that ukulele store" was somehow involved. That's just me always thinking the worst. Glad that wasn't the case, but sorry to hear it was Covid. Good to see you're feeling better.
Welcome back Baz. Been away myself and so glad in reflection you continue. Would be a duller Uke community without your effort and time. Where on earth would we get to see the array of instruments that ordinarily we may never get to see or hear. Another great review, even though it’s not for me. Although the colour and patterning do appeal. Wonder if it is aimed at primary school level with that nut width. Keep it up, it is appreciated.
‘Sgt sausage fingers’ (me) would struggle with a narrow nut. The thing I don’t personally like is the semi-transparent plastic showing all the neck & head bracing.
Good to see you back, and glad you’re continuing. I’m not usually hugely troubled by nut width, but 30mm sounds ludicrously small. I don’t think I could physically play it.
i love music my friend, i play an ibanez black eagle bass mainly, it's my baby. i have 3 basses an acoustic 6 string and an electric 6 string, i have always fancied a uke or banjo though. you provide good insight into the instruments and their make up. fantastic. i'm starting to lean more to a uke now!
Hiya Barry! Glad you're back! I'm glad I watched your review or else might've bought one immediately. I'm a bit of a Donner fan. Mostly because my first one was a Donner. Now... The nut size doesn't bother me. I am one those people with small hands, small willowy fingers, and arthritis- all of which is why I play the ukulele in the first place but a smaller nut is very helpful to me. As far as the wear and tear on the frets, I will say that on my Nova I covered the frets with a thin strip of aluminum tape (used in home construction) so that I could see my positioning on the fret board. It has actually cut down on the wear and tear. As always, you're the best in the biz, Baz! Hey, BTW, I wish you would talk about your conflict with the ukulele store! Maybe the rest of us could learn from it! 🙂
Honestly - as i say, nut size is subjective, but this is ludicrously narrow - beware! Won't be going in to anything to do with the store again - almost made me give this channel up, so putting it behind me - it was very public on my page for a while though
Julie SpeaksOut - Thanks for the info on the aluminum tape. I'll have to try to find some. I used a silver Sharpie to color the frets on my Enya Mini Nova U to see them better, but of course, it wore off. And now, something is buzzing, which must be fret wear, even though I don't play hard at all. Maybe the tape will help. I'm with you on the nut size. It might be the one good thing about this ukulele. Oh, and the skinny body.
This is definately not a uke I would buy, but I really enjoy your good review anyway. Waiting for your reviews, is like when kids wait for Christmas. ❤
Hopefully I like this one 😅cause there was a sale and I ordered it. I’m a small woman, with small hands. My first ukulele was a mess unfortunately but I didn’t do any research and saw a sale and went for it (plz don’t be like me lmao) so this one will be my second
Think about a tenor guitar though Steve is (I assume) it has steel strings? That allows for less space as the strings are skinny - these are flabby and it all feels really cramped!
Glad to see you back and feeling better! I agree this is quite a pretty uke. Does it have mica mixed into the plastic - for the "crystal" - it appears to have that sort of look? Except for the current price it does look like something possibly suitable for a child.
I'm actually kinda impressed by the sound of this one. And it's a soprano! I usually don't like their sound. The biggest failure here is that yeah, the sound disappears quite fast (sustain issues) and the narrowness of the neck. If they'd fix that, it would've been an amazing instrument imo.
Hello, didn't watch for a few weeks. Glad you're ok again. This look not bad, quite futuristic, but it looks as if it doesn't fit together. the body and the neck are from two different ukuleleverses and the head stock from a third one.
Nice review. I have bought 3 Donner ukes 1 wooden, 2 plastic concerts, when I changed strings on the plastic concert I had fought buzzing at the bridge which only disappeared once all strings were at tension. 2 pegs on the tuners were loose once not under pressure. I am not a fan of the brand. Better ukes available for same or lower pricing in my opinion.
Think they are a very mixed brand. but bear in mind I see a LOT of ukuleles. Of their wooden ones, a couple did quite well in my reviews and I did often recommend them (to people adamant on sticking to Amazon). This one doesn't cut it though. At all.
I play (not nearly often enough) mandolin, with 4 double courses crammed onto a skinny neck. I find playing a challenge, even with smallish hands. Too bad this week's uke is disappointing, though.

I got this on sale on Amazon, so I'm not unhappy. I have small hands, so the fretboard is okay for me. The only thing that is bad for me is the plastic bag. It's a tight fit. And then I added a stick-on strap button (one of the few I have left from Outdoor Ukulele) and that makes the ukulele not fit at all. I'm probably going to have to get it a cheapie black gig bag. Anyway, good review and lovely to see you back!!
