To clarify: my intent isn't to build $25 decks that can beat budgetless CEDH tables. The goal of the series is to build with a CEDH mentality without any casual restrictions. It's meant to let people dip their toes into CEDH style of play at the most affordable price point. Further explanation and sample deck lists can be found in the accompanying article: www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/budget-cedh-vadrik-storm-25-and-beyond
Truly appreciate the disclaimer, I was worried that as a budgetless cEDH player, the entry floor would enter at the 25$ deck and these players wouldnt have a good time in budgetless pods. Keep on keepin on, Tomer :)
I believe the term used for these style decks at a local I've been to is "pub-stomper" where your win conditions aren't as Mana / card / efficient but you still run the most powerful deck you can, fetches duals fast rocks etc, except now with a budget. Very cool!
@@MstrKipper pubstomping means showing up to a knife fight with a machine gun. It refers to effortlessly beating those you are playing with because you are intentionally not matched correctly.
This deck seems great! I might suggest adding in a high tide, to help with popping off with frantic search, and also add in any of snap or turnabout type spells that remain within budget.
Keep in mind that the $25 version will still be at a significant disadvantage versus a budgetless CEDH table. Money pays for speed and consistency, so you can still win but you'll be much slower than the rest of the table.
I really enjoyed this. I like a no-holds barred game. I doubt this will survive against a full-on cEDH table but I haven't seen it in action. It's a good cheap baseline for further upgrades. I also liked the format & length of the video.
It would be at a significant disadvantage versus a budgetless CEDH table. It could still steal wins but you'd be the slowest deck at the table. The intent of this video is to build with a CEDH mindset (prioritize winning, ignore casual restrictions and taboos) and let people dip their toe into a CEDH style deck.
I love the idea of approaching a budget deck like this, where you are trying to be as competitive as possible in a financial constraint. This is an amazing idea for a series and would love to see more like it.
Fantastic deck, built the 100$ list (and updated a few cards here and there) and won my pods 3/4 play sessions I've had with it so far. We aren't cedh but we like to run high-power stuff like yisan, orvar and a godo helm. That said it's an all in deck so expect to lose if you misplay or get vadrick killed. To everyone saying clout of the dominus isn't worth it, it 100% is just for the protection, 3 power will usually win you the game if you get birgi/storm-kiln out.
I know that some time had passed but I was wondering if you could post a link to your updated/upgraded list of what he has? I was meaning to build it to counter the absurd speed at which my playgroup plays nowadays. Slamming big stuff just does not cut it :D
I think videos like this are an invaluable tool for the community. As someone who plays almost exclusively cEDH, but consumes the entire spectrum in terms of content, keep it up.
I think this is a great idea. A good entry point for someone who wants to pick up a deck and try to start playing towards that CEDH mentality. Now I want to try and bling out your budget idea into a fully powered CEDH deck. I need to try that binder place holder idea you had a while back so I don’t have to dismantle existing decks haha. I love yours and Seth’s content because it makes me want to brew something with whatever you all are talking about. Also if anyone complains saying this isn’t CEDH just add to the title “Is this CEDH?” Budget. At worst they click to discuss lol
Tomer, I cant say how damn happy this video made me. I will religiously watch every single one of these and I think a lot of people enjoy this sort of content so I sincerely hope you make more of these. cEDH seems very daunting with high cost and how to sequence correctly to really pop off for a lot of people, but it's still appealing. So showing budget decks with a video primer that gives you enough know-how about each card to be semi-confident can help a lot of those people. This video is *chef's kiss*
Thank you for posting this, I have started to play more CEDH at my local games store and the $100 decklist in the article has given me a good base to start with making something more competitive.
I think a good diagram you might want to use for this series especially is the one created by Games Haven, they have a really nice 5 point diagram examining flavor / power / etc as opposed to a direct "power level" for decks. I really enjoyed using it to describe my decks to pods and such
I built a vadrick deck pretty similar to this and was able to play it last week. Funny thing is it also has Reiterate and electrodominance and wasnt even thinking of that combo. I did get to play out the other buy back pay offs with a birgi in play. One other one i liked was lab man and whispers of the muse
love the way you have the three steps from budget 25 through to 100 list. allow someone to test the waters with an archetype or play style, then invest more into it later if desired
I'm down for more cedh! This deck is so Tomer lol in all good ways. Love the budget obviously. In my playgroup(s) the decks tend to be pretty polarized. Ppl bring pure jank or million dollar win the game decks. I tend to build extra slow game, lore and flavor based decks. So if I build to compete it's basically gotta be, okay I win now.
I liked you branching out to having some infinite (and affordable) combos in this video! I also really liked the length of the video and how you described the differences of the price points - which combos were added and what redundancy was added
I loved this idea, I'm a recent commander enthusiast, and to have an entry level cEDH is what I needed to try that side of the game, keep providing options!
This is sooo welcome! Great vid and explanation! Firrminds foresight is a bit of a niche card and 7 mana so maybe elaborate what it is tutoring? Nonetheless, this is a greatly done video and very welcome
Honestly, once I saw the combo value of Valdrik, I got very excited, and am building a version of this deck. We'll see how it fares against my buddy's $1000 atraxas deck next magic night...
Love this idea for videos, and the deck is sweet. Cedh is an awesome way to mix up edh play, def want more people to feel they can reasonably get into it.

I've built this deck and modified it a bit, honestly it works great! I play Cedh and run many decks and gotta say this deck costing near $10 grand cheaper than other decks, the power isn't too off.
Budget is the way to go and i have a few expensive decks; have learned price is not always equal to power level. Bought the $25 profile from ck just now and will change a few cards but will also playtest this weekend with it. I have $100 cedh but i wanna test yours and see if this really pops off. I play mainly $100 7s and 8s
I play Mizzix as my spell slinger commander right now and she's great but this guy seems to be able to pop off a lot faster, Im totally going to try and build this.
I really like this and think it would be great to hear your thoughts on building cedh deck or very focused deck like that touch "power level" 8-9 things that you only want to see on a table that knows what's up but still edge on casually acceptable.
I would be down for more high power EDH. Just to avoid the people who think that anything that isn't Thrasios/Tymna isn't cEDH, I would use the label "High Power" instead. Great vid, Tomer!
I would recommend taking out Clout of the Dominus, it seems good but if you put it on Vadrik, you can't target him with anything, maybe put a snap or something like that?
I love stuff like this! Though there's no way this would stand up to actual cedh I believe, it's a good starter point and it seems like it could be higher power for sure ☺️
can you make budget decks for expensive commanders like thrassios and alike? it will allow an entry point for people who has the commanders but not the budget for the whole deck
Man do I feel dumb for shit talking Vadrik. The fact that his discount grows and that it's incredibly easy to grow his power are what escaped my evaluation of him as a card. Of the decks you have made, this one I almost went to throw down and buy right on the spot~
I personally think it would be good to have multiple series going for Commander. Release a CEDH and a casual commander list each week. That is what makes Seth's content so good is he does multiple formats. So this channel should also do Brawl content with CEDH and regular commander.
Precons are good starters for new players. Just because a deck is cheap doesn't mean it can't compete. One of my friends specializes in degenerate decks, and he told me that if you build a deck that negates abilities and just floods the board with tokens you have a decent chance of winning.
If you’re just trying to get his power high wouldnt something like Titans Strength be better than Sudden Breakthrough and Downhill charge. It’s the most mana efficient and gives you a 4 generic discount.
I love the way of this video but 25 bucks is a bit of a stretch for money i like the way the 50 and 100 dollar builds function with the more flexibility

Great deck, even at $25 dollars. Totally going to build that one and think about few upgrades from $50 bracket (mostly in terms of mana).
Weirdly enough, "Make storming off a breeze" does undercut its own message amazingly
A low-cost addition would be Adeliz, the Cinder Wind. Each spell you cast makes Vadrik more powerful, making the next spell cheaper.

I got most of the components of the $25 deck and barely upgraded it and managed to win a game in a cedh table 4 top
Can't we just use Mizzix in the same way? And when she dies you keep your xp counters. When Vadrik dies you gotta start over
You can use Mizzix as well but she costs 1 more mana and she's $8.
In addition, increasing Vadrik’s power with Buyback cantrips, especially those that can storm, can reduce cost on stuff faster than Mizzix imo.
