- There were a handful of Super Nintendo games that featured the Super Scope. Yoshi's Safari sure was one of them...
Part of the Retroware Light Gun Series.

Done, It took me all weekend but I watched every video you have on this channel. Epic! Thanks for all the hard work you do.
I love the way you say smörgåsbord, it's lovely.
I liked the Super Scope, Wish more games would have used it.
Need... more... 16-Bit Gems...
Even if it was a quickie I loved it, you're awesome dude.
Another great quickie Roo, I am happy to see more content since you're the best reviewer on UA-cam/Retroware. Hope to see more!
I actually loved this game as a child i still own my super scope and every game it had on it released in the states in that manner i dont know if there where any never released in the states but yeah had a blast watching this video and when i played the games my very little brother likes to take the super scope and run around and play with it all the time
I talked to Roo at MAGfest, and he said he's got another 16 bit gems episode just about done. Bout FUCKING TIME. Love you Roo.
I love quickies!! Used to do that with my mom all the time :-)
I love this channel. Makes me feel old tho....
Watching a game quickie beats a football to the groin
I think it's important to note that this game can be played two-player co-op, with the second player in control of Yoshi's movements (even during boss battles) which makes the game a lot easier and more fun.
I like to swap out who holds the super scope because that thing gets heavy quickly. The game also gives you a code for a harder 'second quest' when you complete it the first time. Very cool.
I remember watching a friend play this game when I was a kid. Never got to play it myself (one of THOSE friends that wanted you to come check out their games, but never let you play). I never got a Super Scope myself. And I actually didn't play Yoshi's Island for the longest time, because I thought it'd be another Super Scope game with the title being so similar. :P
Wait? 2 16 bit gems in one week? THIS IS AWESOME!!!!
I loved Yoshi's Safari. Quite fun.
Yes, you're back!
Wonderful! I cannot wait to see you show us some more interesting games. ^_^
2 main videos in a week? :O
Also, I never heard of this game before. Thanks for making the videos!
PLEASE DONT JUST START DOING THESE ROO. I would rather wait months for a full sized episode than a short one, because its the in depth approach you provide that make 16-bit gems so appealing. Still thank you.
MMmmmmmhhhh. What a wonderful quickie, Roo.
Miss the facial Roos
I had this!. Then again I only really had that and the Super Scope 6 game that came with it when it came to SNES Super Scope games. Never got to play the Zapper though
Yay more gems, I love 16 bit Gems
Have you ever played X-Zone? Now THAT game is definitely no joke!
Dude thanks a million.
I actually liked this game when I was a kid. It was pretty fun. I'd love to see a next-gen successor to it sometime. :)
Welcome back
your not alone i happen to like yoshi's safari too
with the wii remote and a snes emulator for wii this game is amazing
Great review, Roo!
Focusing on 16-Bit non-Gems right now, but could totally broaden in this category! :)
Cool, I never knew about this game.
I got this game bundled with an orange Sega genesis justifier light gun and a converter for the plug. It plays much better with it than it did with the super scope.
how have i never heard of this game?? it looks pretty awsome
While it's a bummer to read your taking a break from the RPG gem reviews it is understandable. You put a lot of effort and study into the videos you make and it honestly shows. Your Gem series is what made me a subscribed member and I can't wait till you jump right back into it.
Also thanks for introducing me to Terranigma through your video. It's becoming a real treat to play and experience.
the name of that game which with the squirll looking charecter is called bubsy i hope that awnsers your question
This game had a two player option, with player 2 being able to control yoshi with a regular game pad.
i was just thinking of this game !!
i had fun with this
never finished it though stopped after the first half
yay a new 16 bit gems
I'm hard pressed to remember another that did in that time...
I actually wish they would make another game like that for the Wii U. :3
Great review!
... who else kinda wants to see yoshi safari HD for wii u?
I never did get to play this; I ordered a used copy and the Super Scope from Funcoland way back in the day (I think it would have been mid-90s, when the SNES was old but not "classic"), but after replacing my Scope once or twice and it still not working, they asked if I wanted something different.
I chose Mortal Kombat II (still for the SNES). That is the entirety of my Super Scope experience. They ever re-release any of these on the Wii for the VC?
that was a nice short episode. I never have played Yoshi's Safari and it was never released on the Wii Virtual Console. Would have loved to have Nintendo make a sequel of this on the Wii with the Wii Zapper as the idea behind it.
Wasted potential of a good light gun shooter that could have marketed the Wii Zapper well back in 2008
You should totally do Tin Star. Another game that utilizes the Super Scope!
Roo, 1 game you should definitely check out for adding to 16-Bit Gems is the game Der Langrisser. It stands at the top of my list for snes games above chrono trigger, terranigma, the bombermans and so on.
Would you do a The Way Games Work on the Super Scope? If not, would the NES Zapper episode have made it redundant?
i use snes9x GX is free and you have to look deep in the options to change from snes controller to super scope
someone should make a fan game out of this
See you in a year !
Christ, what SNES games don't you have boxed? Really impressive collection!
NO WAY! YOU HAVE THE CHOSE 4 FIGURES!
I know, i know, but that was a first attempt for them at that time.
Mighty morphing power rangers: the movie on snes is very underrated, I hope one day it gets a game quickie!
what music is at the start of the video? it's SUPER good!
oh and not the intro. after the intro.
They were making 16-bit gems #33 I think
Totally awesome Roo/Joey!! (Hope I spelled it right)
Are you gonna plan on making any videos on Beat 'm Up games?
I highly recommend a game called: Astro Boy: Omega Factor for the GBA (which I think is still 16-bit)
Definitely should try it out.
I contend that with an hour I can both play this game as well as take a football to the groin.
Cool review! Unless I'm mistaken, wasn't this also the last game to feature the seven Koopalings until Mario & Luigi and New Super Mario Bros. Wii?
AW COME NOW.
ROO.
How could you mention football to the groin and not just slip the Moleman clip in the end there?
You're KILLIN me Smalls.
Yeah I totally forgot. I'll try it, thanks. :)
I think I played this game with my cousin back in the day. I only remember playing it with the regular controller though, Is that possible?
you've abandoned the clan of grey wolf, grey wolf
Yeah I hope he's not done doin these I love these vids a thousand thumbs up from me keep it up
I love telling people there's kind of a Super Mario FPS. (Sort of.)
Hey Roo have you ever played "Parodius". I think it would make for a good 16bit Gem episode. Keep up the Great work
Roo... are you on the east coast? Let us know the next fest you are attending. Hundreds of free beers will likely be purchased for you! Love your vids! Can you do one on replacing snes batteries?
1:07 I still sometimes think of this "spanketty wank enemies" line
The only problem with the Super Scope was it drained batteries so quick, you can only do one or two levels and it is dead
So you explained how the xapper works, but how does the bazooka work?
damn i wanted a sequel on the wii
I actually really enjoyed this game on an emulator.
Sweet!
So this is what it would be like if mario went on a rampage with a gun riding a yoshi.
pounding it mercilessly
thanks for the video
Wow, a Mario game that I haven't heard of before? On the SNES?
Nice music, it sounds like Kirby Super Star
Kid Nikki, I believe.
It... It's over?? :[[
This game is just fun. Nothing more or less. It was also to easy however, but if you input a code at the title, you can get a harder version of the game.
Battle Clash is great, but Metal Combat is the best.
True old-style FPS are more than just shooting stuff you know ?
It beats a football to the groin you say? Ok I'll give it a try.
Knew nothing of this game!
So no chance to see a Front Mission Review? :(
your very welcome ^_^
Nice!
hey Roo, whats the final game in the opening? a character jumps through a rice paper wall under the words WE WILL HELP YOU!?
As an adult i've been trying to remember what that game was!!!! I spent at least a years worth of allowance pumping quarters into the arcade version.............id be forever indebted to you for this as i've been trying to remember for well over 10 years!
I actually thought Yoshi's Safari was really easy. I beat it in about an hour when I was a kid.
I'm taking a break from RPG Gems (they take so long) but... I will say that's a great game. :)
I think the last game to feature the Koopalings before New Super Mario Bros.Wii was Mario and Luigi Superstar saga.
Yep it should be called Virtua House of the Dead Mario, lol :D.
what are the songs playing during this video!!!
Game Quickies, eh? Nice. Is it going to broaden over 16- bit to other generations, such as N64 and so on? Or is it just a super short thing of the same nature?
You know I rented this a long time ago and couldn't play cuz I didn't have that damn gun
Its probably cause it has been a damn long time since he uploaded another video.
so is a proper episode coming?
we can see that it took you nearly 8 months for dragon quest 3
whats the name of that game with the squirll looking character thas before he starts doing his review??? I played this when i was a kid but can't for the life of me remember the name.
Am I the only one who liked this game?
