Thanks Jason! You're pretty well seeing the vertical rig here! I often opt for the "Lightweight" setup and utilize the tripod mounts built into the side of the cage. Then I use the iPad for monitoring. One time I rigged it out a little bit more to include the Falcam F22 top handle on top of the vertical rig, but ultimately haven't found myself using it much more than that one time.
Nicely done video! I love your rig. Mine's nearly the same but with Smallrig parts. Mine doesn't use rails but still uses a v-mount battery. Happy filming!
Thanks for checking out the video man! I appreciate it! I'd be interested in how you managed to pull of the v-mount rig without the use of rails. Did you opt for that SmallRig "L" Bracket type V-mount accessory? Thanks again!
Thanks for checking out the vid! You've got options with this cage! It comes in three pieces that can all lock in together around the camera. I leave the top plate off of the cage on my rig, which leaves the MI shoe and the two screws next to it free for the XLR top handle or a Sony MI mic. If you don't want to use the MI shoe, you can install the included top plate and it will give you a Falcam F22 rail on top for a top handle!
How is that third party mic barrel? I’m interested but I honestly don’t want to break off Sony’s since it’s still working. It’s not sturdy though as everyone knows. Is that a lot better than the Sony’s?
Great question! My native Sony mic holder was still very much intact, there are two screws that hold on that original barrel that can be removed with an allen key. This new, third party holder then slots in and use those existing mounting points. So no permanent modifications are necessary! Is this mic holder better than Sony's? Aesthetically, not really. The finish is a little rough, but I find the FUNCTION of it to be much better than Sony's. The elastic bands allow it to fit a wider range of mics, and act as an isolator to minimize handling noise that might be transferred to the mic.
mans got those magician fingers
great vid.
Now you see me...
Nicely done Sir. 👏🏻
Much appreciated! Thank you!
Great breakdown of your set-up!
@@darianjones3268 Thank you so much for checking it out!
Is your audio mono channel? I could only hear you speaking on my left side. Could be issue with my earplugs but jus wanted to ask
It must have been! It seems I just haad left channel active on export, sorry about that. But hey, thanks for watching anyways :)
Jazzy vibe while building out the rig!!!! ❤
@@Jasondeheus It’s either a jazzy vibe or Johnny Cash on any given day in the studio!:)
I only hear you out of my left headphone. That’s interesting. Did you shoot this video on an A7IV?
Yea, that was my mistake in Post! Sorry to put you through that! I did shoot this video on the A7IV 👍
Loved this video. Would love to see the vertical rig you go with

@@TroyMairs Yep, that's right! Expensive, but so convenient. I also have a rails setup with a v-mount plate, but I only use that with long lenses.
@@skymakai I thought that thing was a great idea! I considered switching cages just to natively use it that Vmount bracket☝️ I’m glad you enjoy it!
Nice setup! Does the cage block access to the Mi Shoe?
