This is actually valuable footage - capturing on film the cumulative energy involved in moving massive amounts of water across the vast expanse of the Pacific and the behavior of the waves offers alot of information. Hope that the USGS sees this.
They could build a model off of this for real. Def an important thing they are doing and it would only be fair if they received some sort of recognition when this video evidence is used in the future.

This video is actually informative, as tsunamis aren't often as big and dramatic as the movies. I also loved the commentary, it made me chuckle. Next time there is a Tsunami in Oregon, you bet I'd be a proud member of the "Idiots on a Bridge" club.

The fact that an earthquake occurred some 7500 miles away and yet a few hours later we can see the evidence on our shores gives an idea of the energy released. From what I've heard, northern Japan lurched some 4 meters towards north America. Even Tokyo moved about a foot eastward.

Waves aren't supposed to go up the Rogue River like that! And this traveled through the night from Japan, that's amazing! The river current was no match for the tsunami surge, rebound waves from that island were incredible. I'm sure these guys grew up there & were shocked with what they saw. It's amazing how the surge kept getting bigger and bigger and how much force it has, coming all the way from across the Pacific, although it's tiny compared to the killer waves in Japan. Still breathtaking to watch this footage, thanks for sharing! :)
The description says the video was posted of March 11, 2011 - the exact date of the Japanese tsunamis. So all you people saying this isn't a tsunami, you are wrong - it IS a tsunami, and not just any tsunami, it's part of the tsunamis that hit Japan the same day. Oregon and Japan do share the Pacific Ocean. How did you miss the date of publication? March 11, 2011. The tsunami that hit Oregon was a part of the tsunamis that hit Japan.

Everyone is disliking the video but I think this is a really interesting video. It was fun to watch, you can hear and see you guys are having a ton of fun. Only if it was warmer you guys could have stood in the river and felt the true power. :p Still a very fun video to watch.
I know the waves were not that big. But it’s still scary to think it came in like 5 times. Imagine if it was a big devastating tsunami and it came in 5 times? We always think of a big tsunami as one big wave. We forget it will come back again various times. This was very interesting. Thank you sharing it with us.
It is AMAZING how much power it still had...pushing so strongly against the current (uphill) of the river. Wonder if there were the wild “washing machine” currents under the surface.
Not too huge or dramatic, but extremely interesting when you consider what this is and how far it traveled. When the waves hit the sandbar on the inner side of the bridge, you clearly see how the energy is spread into new ripples going the opposite direction. The huge tsunami waves do this exact same thing, not only along coastlines, but in the entire Pacific Ocean.

The very waves you are laughing about, are the exact same waves that only hours before killed thousands of people. Like I said, your video is interesting, especially as I live in Japan, but it is hard to watch as you laugh and joke about something that took the lives of many.

Considering the whole west coast of North, South and Central America lie along the Ring of Fire and the very thing that caused the huge tsunami that hit Japan on March 11, 2011 could happen here. I would be watching this thinking "how can I be better prepared" rather than laughing and making fun of it.

Nothing compared to the 1964 tsunami which destroyed a bridge and some houses in my home town on the Oregon coast. A tsunami from the Cascadia fault will flatten 95% of the town.
Its sad to think that a gigantic tsunami and earthquake will probably hit the Oregon coast and completely devastate the surround areas.... One things for sure, they won't be laughing when that happens :/

Umm, kinda looks like a tidal bore....river current pushes water into ocean, rising tide in ocean 'piles up' water at river mouth, enough water piles up, over-runs the river current, waves push in-land. Mekong and Amazon rivers have great bores, as does the Thames River.
No, this is the outer reach of the Japanese tsunami, as you can see from the date the clip was posted. Tidal bores only come in one surge, not several (like this). Bores also happen at regular & predicted intervals during the highest tides - they don't occur unexpectedly. And, as the guys say during this clip, this is happening here at low tide. The famous River Severn bore in the UK (pretty sure The Thames doesn't have one) is one of the best examples - plenty of clips on UA-cam showing it.
The tidal bores and this tsunami are both bores, they vary only in the source of the surge. The tidal bore results from tidal forcing, while this video's waves result from the Japanese earthquake's tsunami traversing up the river.

I don't really know what people expect. They were clearly aware of what happened in Japan, but there they are, standing thousands of miles away. The makers of this clip were watching an event happen in their own backyard. Should they solemnly watch the waves roll in while reflecting on the power of nature? They're just people caught up in the moment of something happening to them which is exciting but not especially dangerous. The tsunami they saw was immediate; the tsunami which struck Japan, while part of the same event, was a distant tragedy.

5000 miles from the earthquake epicenter to Oregon. The surge was much bigger in Hawaii (which is closer) and people were told to stay off the coast

This looks very similar to the tidal bore at the bay of Fundy in Eastern Canada. Can be bigger on a high tide.

الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ بِإِذْنِهِ وَيَهْدِيهِمْ إِلَى صِراطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
وهذا ما سيحدث لامريكا كثيرا وستدفع الثمن باهضا

حقيقة اعصار التورنادوا :
هو في الاساس رباني ومن غضب الله الجبار
ومن شدته انه اذا مر على نهر شقه نصفين ورفع قاعه الطيني وذر ترابه في الهواء
وكذلك يقتلع البنايات والبيوت والاشجار ومن ثم رميها في مكان بعيد مهما كانت ثقيلة وعظيمة
ويحمل الجسور والقناطر والخزانات الكبيرة ويدور بها وكانها عود ثقاب ويلفها كالمروحة من شدة قوته العنيفة
ويحمل معه الحيوان والانسان الى عنان السماء ثم يلفظه خارج الغلاف الجوي او الكرة الارضية وكانها عملية تفريغ اي شفط نحو الفضاء الخارجي
مما يتسبب بخسائر مادية جسيمة وهائلة تقدر بتريليونات الدولارات
وهذا غيظ من فيض وهذا بعض ما يجري في امريكا
ان الذين كذبوا باياتنا واستكبروا عنها لا تفتح لهم ابواب السماء ولا يدخلون الجنة حتى يلج الجمل في سم الخياط ...

I found there laughter a little morally wrong...after all people died in this tsunami....horribly...laughing here seemed inappropriate. Just saying.
I don't really know what people expect. They were clearly aware of what happened in Japan, but there they are, standing thousands of miles away. The makers of this clip were watching an event happen in their own backyard. Should they solemnly watch the waves roll in while reflecting on the power of nature?
They're just people caught up in the moment of something happening to them which is exciting but not especially dangerous. The tsunami they saw was immediate; the tsunami which struck Japan, while part of the same event, was a distant tragedy.
