Next to Walter Hobbes from "Elf", this is what I remember James Caan for. I loved him as Tim Lockwood. That scene near the end with him saying how proud he is of Flint and how much he loves him really got me. If there's a fishing metaphor for dealing with loss, I would use it. Nevertheless, I will surely miss you, James.
oh no, he was in alot more scenes, these are just scenes where it's ONLY literally him on screen. There's quite a few more scenes he's in - When Flint and Tim talk about Flint working at the tackle shop. - When Flint and Tim are on screen talking about the machine and Flint's responsibility. - An extension to that scene when Tim gives off a 100% discount - An entire scene at the roofless restaurant and concerned with the food being bigger. - Tim confronting flint when he's in the trash can. - And the scene where he's given the translator. If all of those scenes were added in, it would've probably added 9-ish minutes to this video.
originally, he was simply Flint's boss but the woman at sony stated there needed to be a relationship to ground the story, so lord and miller had to go back to the storyboard and used the rendered character of his boss and made him his dad. I'm so glad this was the outcome.
When he found flint's coat, he's not afraid about if his son is dead or not. He already lost his wife, he would be more like afraid of the protection of his son.
He's not afraid of anything. Except for ONE thing. It's not the fact that the sky is messed up. It's not the fact that there's food falling from the sky. Hell, it's not even the fact that his son is literally risking his own life to save the entire planet from a machine that wants to kill everyone and consume the world with food. No. It's that he has to send a fucking email to Flint. That's what scares him deeply lol
This guy honestly reminds me of my dad irl. A big burly man with a mustache who sticks to his principles but also loves his family and son very deeply.☺️
As much as people don’t wanna admit! He was right about the invention going to end in a disaster! This is the same guy who couldn’t even drag a mouse for a computer the right way but he was still right! But still right!
The guy who voiced Tim Lockwood (James Caan) also played Walter Hobbs in Elf (2003). However, James Caan is best known for his role as Sonny Corleone in The Godfather (1972), starring alongside Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. Another one of his notable film roles was as Paul Sheldon in Misery (1990), adapted from Stephen King's 1987 novel of the same name. Unfortunately, James Caan passed away on July 6, 2022 at the age of 82. Rest in peace to this legendary actor who will never be forgotten. I watched Elf last night, and seeing made me feel a bit emotional. Merry Christmas, everyone!
I remember seeing one of the directors of this film post about James Caan, around the time of his passing, which said along the lines of: “Caan said a line a little too quiet, (and) considering the distance between Tim (the dad) and Flint we asked to read it again and reminded him of the distance between the characters. To this, Caan redoes the line as something like, “Hey Flint? Could you come down? I don’t wanna shout at you son.”.”
We follow Tim Lockwood who after his son died in an accident he never recovered suffering from schizophrenia believing his son to be alive. He continues to live his life as his business goes to crap, still believing his son to be alive. A natural disaster then hits the island, and Tim decides to confront his imaginary son, getting over his loss and moving on. He then gets a job as customer service, but his building is weird and then it gets destroyed in another natural disaster. He survives and gets the job done, and lives to see another day.
I’m pretty sure Sony watched the disaster that was Chicken Little while coming up with this movie and said, “You know what guys? How about we do something similar to this but do it right?” (Edit) R.I.P James Caan :(

Never realized that he was voiced by the late James Chaan. He’ll be missed a lot and remembered for his voice role as Flint’s dad by all.
Ok, but can we just talk for a second about how casually he answers the phone when flint calls him. Like, wtf, the sky is literally falling.
