  • Lucie Arnaz and Michele Lee stop the show in "Lucie's Birthday Bash at Birdland" in New York City on July 17, 2006. This is a completely unrehearsed performance of a song originally sung by both Lucie and Michele when they both starred in the "Cy Coleman" , "Dorothy Fields", "Michael Bennett", "Tommy Tune" Broadway hit, "Seesaw" (Michele on Broadway and Lucie in the first national tour). Although longtime friends and admirers of each other's work, this was the first time they had ever sung this song together. And it was one for the books. Those who were there are still talking about it.
Lucie Arnaz was co-starring in the smash hit musical, "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" on Broadway, at the time and this was on one of her Monday night's off during the "Broadway" at "Birdland" series.
Musical director was Lucie's longtime conductor and arranger, Broadway's newest composer, "Ron Abel", "Julie Jacobs" flew in from Florida to play the drums and "Steve Doyle" was on the bass. "Julie Budd", "Valarie Pettiford", and "Phoebe Snow" got up and joined Lucie on stage that night as surprise guests along with "Simon Luckinbill", Lucie's eldest son, by husband, "Laurence Luckinbill", who accompanied her on congas, (a la his late grandfather, "Desi Arnaz") closing the show with "Cumbanchero".
This was quite a night to remember. And all for a mere $35! Magic happens when you least expect it.
