Do you want more DARK Godzilla?
Please.
Definitely
As long as we get a good balance of dark Godzilla and fun Godzilla in the years that follow, yeah.
Yeah sure I do.
The more dark the better
This Godzilla mutated or not was a horrifying animalistic creature that killed anything that invaded its territory
Angry
@@Godyeater that too
Yeah
I love how nightmarish and feral Godzillasaurus was here. Him coming out of nowhere made him look like a fiend from hell.
Yes! When they shined the light on him the first time it made me jump! He was so feral and animalistic! The music and tone of the opening scene gave strong horror movie vibes! I absolutely loved it!
he legit did come out of nowhere.
Yeah
Nowhere visible, anyway.
@@Ape_ModeThat made me jump too! I’m glad I’m not the only one, first saw the movie in RPX and I felt his roars through my seat. That scene gave me major Jurassic Park T-Rex vibes, especially when he was snatching the soldiers with his jaws and his fast movements really made him even more frightening, he was like a crazed enraged primal beast! This “Godzillasaurus” is much more badass than the one than the one from Godzilla vs King Ghidorah and is what Godzilla 1998 should’ve been.
It's funny that Godzillasaurs has actually become more popular than MO Godzilla. Really shows how much of an impact that opening scene made.
Eh, both were equally cool for their roles. Godzillasaurus was much more smaller, which means it would be more direct with humans. Godzilla was much bigger, which is makes it more destructive for destroying and terrorising Japan.
Indeed I enjoy both of them all the same
It did not become more popular that MO Goji
I like minus one a bit more then gxk
I've litteraly seen nobody talk about the Godzillasaurus lmao
That night attack scared me more than any Godzilla scene has before; a magnificent precursor to the kaiju horror that was to follow.
Well said! It really capture a primal sense of fear!
Agreed!
The opening scene of MO made me realize how much I’d like to see a sort of og “lost world” take on Godzilla where a group of people end up on Lagos/Birth island in the 20's/30's and encounter Godzilla and some of his rogues gallery in smaller more dinosaur like forms. It would allow humans to get up close to the monsters in a way that just couldn’t happen when they’re the size of buildings like they usually are. Godzilla would be in his Godzillasaurs form so he’d only be around 50-60 feet in height and the other monsters would be of similar size. We can throw some real dinosaurs and other creatures in just to keep things interesting. The film would end when Godzilla is taken back to the modern world and goes on a rampage.
As in the lost world 1925?
@@g.i.azilla3557 Yes. That and King Kong would be huge influences on the plot. Perhaps they could set it during World War 1 to keep things fresh.
So pretty much Godzilla: Skull Island
Prequel. So basically godzilla minus two.
@@steve94183 I prefer the lost world 1925
Tbh I found this version of godzilla more scarier than his final form cuz he's more agile and can move around more quickly and he can actually eat u. Plus that roar man that shit will give u nightmares
Yep ! They took the T-Rex from Jurassic park & dialed it up to 11 !!
The 1998 American Godzilla was closer to a T-Rex in how it stood and moved bent-over. Minus One walks upright like classic Godz. Which emphasizes one of the key components of Godzilla's visuals: height.
Actually, all of Godzilla's motivations are explained in the novel version of the movie. He's highly territorial. On Odo Island, he has come to collect sacrifices from the superstitious people on the island. He sees the emperial forces are a threat to his territory. After he's exposed to the Baker Test near Bikini Atoll, he sees pretty much all of humanity as a threat because he knows they are responsible for the bomb that burned and scarred him.
this makes it even more scary.
@@mentaltelepathy24 -1.0Goji's motivations are almost exactly the same as ShodaiGoji (the 1954 incarnation of the character).
No lie...
Godzilla was legit terrifying in his first sequence. And that's before being mutated!!!
That moment when Godzilla becomes a straight up horror movie.
Shin Godzilla: Am I joke to you?
1954: am I also a joke to you?
@@cosmiccube597shin Godzilla is a joke he got Solo'd by the Tokyo citizens with ease.
Yeah
@@michaelmclean5803 plot armor.
I like how many of the films Godzilla has always been this colossal force with humans being casualties. Making him smaller actually gave an opportunity to show Godzilla target humans with actual intent.
Even the way the soundtrack starts off is barely audible to show the anxiety of the men to the loud snaring as the fear and dread sets in.
An absolute masterpiece of a scene.
As dark as this was I'm glad Toho didn't break one of their own rules and have Godzilla eat people. Would have been weird and unsettling. Definitely one of the things that helps make Godzilla unique from your typical Giant monster
Kong doesn't eat people
@@economiccrisis9267 Didn't he eat people in the 1933 original?
Yeah
@economiccrisis9267 Kong does actually. Alot of his movies he has been depicted as eating people. He did so in Skull Island.
It also adds to the fear, this isnt a animal attacking prey or rivals, its doing this out of pure Hatefilled SPITE.
This scene gave me some serious t rex escape vibes from the first jurassic park, if there is a sequel made it NEEDS to be done by the same guy, you can feel the passion he put into this film
I legit didn’t expect Godzilla to appear so soon in this film, as I thought there would be more movie time before actually seeing the big monster.
But no, we get Godzilla within the first couple minutes of the movie. It was brilliant and a breath of fresh air.
Not to mention the fact that it wasn't even the Godzilla we expected either.
Yeah
I just LOVE the design of Odo Island Godzillasaurus. The sound of it, the way it moved like a savage animal.
I saw this in 4DX. The Odo Island scene was done so well. They flicker bits of water out as the men flew over head to similate blood
I still want Biollante to make a comeback
I think they can really make Biollante look awesome now.
@@mentaltelepathy24 💯 totally!!!
Godzillasaurus smaller scale make the horror much closer and more personal
I remember when I first watched this movie back when it came out in December, I assumed that the reveal of Godzilla was going to be slowly built up, like in the original. Which made this scene all the more surprising and terrifying.
So the 1998 Godzilla ripped off Jurassic Park and failed. Fast forward to now and Minus One’s first 10 minutes are better than all 6 hours of the Jurassic World entries. We really have come full circle haven’t we.
This version of the godzillasaurus attack scene was more brutal it felt very dark and this godzillasaurus had one thing in mind to kill it made want more dark godzilla after watching this scene in minus one.
The beat part was his first apperence when the light is shined on him and he roars, it scared the shit outta me
Godzilla attacking on Odo Island in Minus One is so terrifying, it reminds me a lot like the Cyclops from the 7th voyage of Sinbad which I think you remember that.
I finally got to watch Godzilla Minus One on Netflix, and I have to say, I couldn't have felt any less helpless. This incarnation of Godzilla is FAR more unforgiving than any other incarnation that has come before. He makes the GMK Godzilla look like an elementary school in comparison. The feelings I felt throughout the entire movie, I have not felt since first watching the Americanized version of the original Japanese masterpiece all the way back when I was 2 years old in 1995. The raw emotions were just so powerful and unforgetting.
A video surrounding the controversy around Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah Godzillasaurus scene would be well received, at least from me (i dont remember you guys doing it before)
Only uber mega weebs think there's any controversy
@@ChrisDaAce27 There was a news report.
I've been binge-watching your videos, and I'm hooked. You've gained a loyal fan!
That part of the film was awesome, and Godzilla looked like a gangster dinosaur 🤙🤙👍😎🐊🦖
I have to admit. When I saw this movie for the first time I thought, “oh, there going with a small Godzilla this time “
Godzilla Minus 1 is a masterpiece. Genuinely. First time I've ever wanted the humans to "win."
Godzilla attacking Odo Island is a horror movie. No wonder Shikishima froze while in the cockpit of his plane.
What an insightful video. Thank you.
In my opinion a dark Godzilla movie would be cool. A horror based Godzilla movie would be incredible
So Shin Godzilla?
@@theoneandjabroni3002 shin wasn't as scary I want to say maybe something like a combination of minus and GMK
The original was some what of a horror film at least for its time. The direct sequel, Godzilla 1985, also took a darker route.
Awesome set up man 👍
Can’t thank you enough for this Godzilla minus one video. This opening to Godzilla minus one is absolutely terrifying. You read my mind at 1:14
It was the first time I ever seen the horror aspect on a Godzilla film, so that took me a surprise.
I wanna see a full-length horror film where it's just Godzillasaurus attacking Japanese soldiers set on the second world war
Very good idea
I just watched Godzilla Minus one yesterday and I agree thwt this is the best and most horrific scene in the whole film in my perspective
I can't remember the last time I was so glued to my seat in a movie theater.
Amazing video, thanks Dangerville for giving me a shout out! I’ve been a super resident for definitely over a year. I’m happy to give more thoughts on all Godzilla and Kaiju lore! 🔥
Honestly, I would have to say the Ginza attack was more brutal than the Odo Island. If you look at him, there are several times that Gojira is pre-meditating his attacks. You can see him looking down at the fleeing humans. Especially when he does the tail swipe on the buildings and brings them all down right into the people on the street. He thought that one out.
You are right, the part when he swings his tail to knock down the buildings and use his hands too. You saw it in his face, he was like I'm going to kill all these people. I never noticed it in theaters, but seeing it at home, you can point out so many more things. I honestly felt this worked better at home for me then in theaters. I loved it in theaters don't get me wrong, but at home felt more scary and personal. I knew what was going to happen but still was creep out.
Jacob you and Alistair drop the best Godzilla content that is out there the most truthful and respectful content always all good in my book as a Godzilla fan as a supporter and part of the community keep doing what you're doing and keep giving us more of that Godzilla s***
This scene was terrifying, then sad. It reminded me of the the scenes in the first Godzilla movie with the school children singing and the woman on the street huddling with her children saying they will be joining their father soon.
Yep I love how they were just like;
"Yo what if we redid that Godzillasaurus attack scene but play it dead fucking serious?"
The Search Light enraging him is a callback to the original 54. It was mentioned that Gojira was angered by search lights. As for a DARK moment, Gojira 54's scene of him destroying Tokyo, where a mother is holding her kids before dying, saying that they will be seeing their dad soon. That was DARK.
Also this godzillasaurus already had regeneration. It's how he survived the atomic bomb. It's in the novelization.
It was captured so perfectly yall...element of horror and at the same time the characters gave that feeling that they cant comprehend whats happening...its almost like a Lovecraft feeling
What did it for me was when he made eye contact with the pilot. He knew if he pulled the trigger, he would’ve tore him and that plane to shreds.
Shame Godzillasaurus didn’t eat any of the workers
"Eat"
@@GhidorahStan64-sm1ci
“Ate-ed”

I'm glad he didn't. I cringe at the idea of Godzilla eating people. That's part of what makes him unique
@@CardinalSin_96 really?
I love the idea of Godzilla eating other kaiju and even humans it just a shame we will never see this concept explore cause toho rule is never let Godzilla eat or at least eat humans
I remember watching this scene and thinking Godzilla will rise from the ocean in an ominously epic way. This entrance caught me completely off guard.
Not unsettling , amazing . Absolutely amazing scene
MO when Godzilla was chasing the men in the boat, that’s the scariest he ever looked. The determination in his eyes were that of a predator after prey, the same look a lion has on its hunt.
For those who dont know why the fish die when godzilla is around.
Deep pressure, when godzilla swims he comes up superfast he changes pressure all around due to him being super big. Which causes underwater fish to bloat. It's like when u catch deep fish or fish and u real it super fast up to the surface, pressure change and they'll bloat and sometimes explode there organs out
When i saw that scene, it was the first time Godzilla had actually like. "Damn this guy's scary." Usually it's just collateral when big G kills people but to see actual straight up morder was intese.
There are a Lot of moments int he movie where the direction and acting bring out the tension way more than most recent Godzilla movies. During the attack on Ginza, Godzilla isn't even aiming to attack individuals. Like back in the Ocean, and on Odo Island, he was only triggered into actual violence when he was attacked. The Mechanics shot at him, he butchered them. The US Destroyer that the Mine Sweepers see, attacked to stop him, got demolished, and the Minesweepers got caught up in it. He bites a train in his way. He walks through the town, most of the time not even meaning to cause destruction. But the second those Tanks start firing on him, he retaliates by Heat Ray, his own personal nuke to show just how out classed they are.
And boy does it work. The Bells start tolling as he readies his attack. A nice little touch that's shown later on at Noriko's funeral to make it clear why those bells were tolling in the Ginza Scene. The bells are tolling for those unfortunate people in his way to mark their passing. The Bells come up again later during the final operation to stop Godzilla, the bells start tolling as Godzilla gets sunk. Hey, his bells this time right? No, dropping him down didn't kill him, raising him up he stopped himself and saved his own life. And in spite of even regular citizens standing up and joining hands to do it, He kills all heroic music and charges up his ray. Each person on the boats all have a different expression. Fear, Sorrow, Despair, all set to silence. They might not be as personal as being bitten in half. But it's clear this Godzilla isn't just a mutated animal. He's a vengeful, Almost invincible monster that remembers to put the GOD in Godzilla.
The movie went from Jurassic Park to Jaws and I will forever hold this movie as my personal #1 for that
The Moment godzilla apeared in the light, perfection!
I always liked the Godzillasaurus scene from the King Ghidorah Heisei movie for how unique it was so was glad to see a modern take on it. Was drastically different in tone but very epic
Because of Shin Godzilla at some point I underestimate every Japanese modern iteration of Godzilla. But boy was I wrong. This was the best Godzilla movie ever. Even GvK or GxK pale in comparison.
Gozira, minus one! Love it.
We need a Godzilla themed disco club
I'm surprised Japan hasn't done that yet.
I saw this movie just a few days ago when it came out and I was beyond impressed. I come from a pretty small place so we only got one showing of this and the time sucked. Seeing it though made me wish I'd tried harder at the time. This first scene was an amazing introduction to Godzilla but I felt that the night assault was never to hide imperfections but to create claustrophobia or intimacy, neither world is 100% accurate but I think people will know what I mean. Also, I feel that minimised the visual imprint of Godzilla(saurus) before it became the Godzilla we know.
The sound in that scene was amazing, my favourite moments was actually in the quieter moments. When Shikishima crept to the plane, or hearing Tachibana whisper. Godzilla crept around the camp, walking softly and growling while the score was subtle. For a few moments, he was not thrashing and roaring.
My childhood fear of the woods at night developed when my brother-in-law, who had taken me to his hunting cabin, shined a strong spotlight into the nearby woods and a mange afflicted deer stared back. Just a weak, sick herbivore, but my grade school imagination it was a zombie deer. Every animal in the woods that night wanted to eat man-flesh in my nightmares.
The producers of G-1 wanted even his mutated form to be smaller than the recent Monsterverse Godzilla, because they wanted that more personal interaction between him and us. He appears to be deliberately targeting humans, rather than us being collateral damage from his rampages. There's speculation that he blames humans for the agonizing atomic blast that turned him into a nuclear giant, and left him in constant pain from his charred skin.
I was sadly spoiled before watching, but the moment the watch tower shunned the light on G to see a realistic CGI monster roaring and charging it really freaked me the F out!
The size of Godzillasaurus is actually what’s scary because he is small enough to seek out individuals. Sure, any other Godzilla could trample thousands of people with a single footstep, but the thought of this 50 foot monster chasing after you specifically is terrifying
I don't know.... I think the scene where he is chasing the guys in the boat would be more horrifying. I mean, he's right there, chasing... you can see the anger and rage in his eyes... and he just wants to destroy you! That just seems more personal to me.
Not gonna lie, in this beginning scene to Godzilla Minus One, Godzilla felt like a legit movie slasher like Jason Voorhees from Friday The 13th. 🪓🦖
Ooooo yes, I saw this movie for the first time just today, after seeing some people talk about the movie on UA-cam (it sounded really cool and interesting and I could tell I would love it!). None of those youtubers showed this scene that you are talking about and it really shocked me, haha! It was awesome. I'm so glad to have watched this movie. Now it's in my top favorite movies, up there with the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Back to the Future.
There's no battleships near Oda island in Godzilla -1 because they were mostly destroyed, the only battleship they had left was the Nagato.
Man, the way you describe it sends a chill in my gut. I personally would've hid as best as I could in the trench, but that's just me. I won't lie. My heart would be racing, and would be in my throat. Just staying perfectly quiet without breathing hard would be impossible.
imagine godzilla turning you into mustard.
2:53 “and under the cover of darkness” Halo Reference?
There's a scene in Minus one toward the end when Godzilla is trouncing through the countryside and you can hear a dog barking, Godzilla steps on the house and you can hear the dog give out a Whelp. I remember thinking to myself, Dam ! Godzilla is Frickin mean ! Hahahha !!!
This movie is what happens when a group of dedicated, passionate filmmakers come together to create art, not a product for sale. I’m a firm believer that shoestring budgets make better films, while big budgets make blockbuster movies. Star Wars(you’d call it Episode IV: A New Hope nowadays but it’s always going to be Star Wars to me) is an example of the first that morphed into the second.
I really really wish they would have had Godzilla side eye glance at the reporters right before he knocked the building down. Would have been horrifying!
When they turned on the searchlight I was expecting it to light up a huge foot or some body part, totally not a charging demon from the abyss!
I can't wait for this movie to come out on DVD
I remember that there were some scenes in Godzilla 1984 that freaked me out. It just seemed dark when I was a kid. Though, I think this minus one scene is up there
When I was a child, my father called me out onto the porch late at night while he had his friends over. He was sitting back in his chair, his friends silent, called me over and handed me a flashlight. I stared off the deck, and he told me "Do you see it son?" I was only 5-6 at the time and responded "See what?" he just nudged me a little further near the railing of the deck. "Right there, you see?" I put my face near the opening between the bars of the wooden railing, turned on the flashlight, and to my horror, a massive Tree Spider was dead center between the rails, inches away from my face. It must have gotten startled from the flashlight or my sudden scream because it dropped right off the web and started running towards my feet. I cried like a little baby for weeks because of the nightmares. Oddly enough, I love spiders now :)
The thing its he was calm until the soldiers flash his eyes with the big light and start screaming and shooting
First of all when Godzilla was first shown in this movie he was mutated he just like bigger then dinosaurs at this point then later on in the movie Godzilla gets mutated more and then gets the heat ray/atomic breath I know this because he is a giant lizard that got mutated after being exposed to the radiation

If only movie directors these days could learn from the past. They could make better movies like this one. All you need is imagination and Something that inspires you
This dude made this movies on pretty much peanut size budget too. And wound up having some of the best CGI I have seen in a film. I'm curious on what he do with a Avengers size budget.
Between Minus One and GxK, it's a really great time to be a Godzilla fan.
An oustanding intro to the beast.
The dead fish was like the ch, ch, ah ah, from Friday the thirteen 😅
I got an playmates godzilla x kong toy ad before watching it
We need a rated R Godzilla movie all the gore and horror
I been saying this for a while, like when he shoots his atomic breath show people skin melt and all. Like when his skin is pealing off from mutation have it land on people and burn them alive. Even if we get one R rated Godzilla film, its all I ask I wish TOHO can experiment with the Idea. Just do the story right, make it grounded, and really good.
Toho would never allow rated R
I agree this is the most brutal scene, but the most terrifying scene was when Godzilla went after the mine collector vessel. The look on his face sent shivers down my spine. To me, this was the most terrifying scene.
...and I LOVED IT.
Can you make a video about if Jonah will be in the next monster verse movie please
I wouldn’t mind a Godzillasaurus movie if it was like this scene
Now this is the king of monsters. Scary 😎
Minus One is the only godzilla that completely terrified me. He's truly scary. Even more so than shin
I thought the camera and shot cuts could have been better. This scene would have been a great opportunity for an extended shot showcasing the animation effects and building even more suspense before the chaos breaks loose
The Godzillasaurus in GMO was more of a demon rather than a dinosaur.
Your narration is awesome. The transcript. A friendly critique, try to make your voice more ominous. You can add a little bit of dark resonance to it to really make your voice disturbing while you narrate.
