Great points Chris. It's too easy to get caught up in what you don't have, and not take a moment to enjoy your own collection. It'll never be "done" so enjoy the process and what you do have 👍
A focus is a must. I got so stressed buying everything in sight that I thought looked cool. Sticking to collecting what I love and it has really helped.
"Be proud of the collection you have" You said it man! I only got a few licensed figures, lots of bootlegs and small merchandising stuff, but I totally love each and every item in my collection :D
Just wanted to say thank you for providing the advice and insight in your videos. I am literally watching this video and had just started an excel spreadsheet earlier today to start tracking my purchases because I use it so much for work to track data and you suggested it, confirmed I needed it. I'm learning a lot so far from your channel, really appreciate the information and getting the chance to check out your amazing collection.
Thanks for making this video. I've been collecting superhero-themed collectibles for years now and have recently decided to focus solely on Batman and Superman as they have always been my 2 favorite characters. I started out collecting 6" action figures, then added in statues, and Hot Toys. With all of the superhero and Star Wars movies over the years, my Hot Toys collection has grown fairly large. I'm now in the process of selling all of the figures unrelated to Batman and Superman. I'm also now focusing on adding more Sideshow and Prime 1 pieces to my collection.
Patience and discipline. Especially with delays you have to be okay with those gaps on a shelf waiting the piece to arrive. I have a focus, but then I admit do have a few off to the side that I love but don't really fit. If it fits in the budget and space, biggest thing is loving what you own without stress.
This would be my second year of collecting and I must admit I was caught up in all the hype last year and after watching all the tips and advice I can comfortably say I have a vision and plan on what I want my collection to look.
I use to collect small and large Batman statues . I stop doing that now I just collect Batman statues only prime 1 and sideshow and it has to be something I must have. Quality over quantity. Thank you Chris for this. statue collecting is a stressful hobby but your channel makes it a lot easier and fun 👍
Your right Chris cause I was all over the place. I like Spiderman, but I’m not a crazy fan of Spiderman. I always was a Star Wars, X-men, Batman fan. Then I have a few out of the ordinary. You have to keep it a little simple to keep your collection right.
Chris, what a great video for the channel! You made some great points, but I couldn't help but notice you left out a segment covering the storage of boxes/packaging. I feel like an equal amount of thought must go into that as well. Keep up the great work!
Hey Chris, excellent video! I think many folks will find it very useful. I have been a collector for many years now. Started with Funko POPs and 1/10 Kotobukiya (Jim Lee’s Trinity ftw!). My first “big statue” was Batgirl PF from Sideshow. Bought some 1/4 statues from Gaming Heads, some 1/6 and 1/10 from DC Collectibles, etc. The thing is I have never displayed most due to fact I was still living with my parents. I have my own place now and I am currently planning my “display strategy” and let me tell you, I do not have enough space. I was angry, I was frustrated, I had a moment when I wanted to sell everything. But that would be a huge mistake of course. I plan to get custom cabinets and after maaany iterations, I think I finally got it. Won’t fit everything in there but thanks to you and your videos I have learnt to let go. I thought I would never sell some pieces. But now I get it, this hobby is never constant. Also you grow as a person, companies changes (Gaming Heads is not good enough for me anymore, rise of new studios). Yes, it will be sad to see some of the statues go. But they will be replaced by even better ones (Batman Hush Batcave, WW vs. Hydra, both Heath and Joquin Jokers from Queen Studios). So my collection will be a wild mixture, from small pieces to 1/3 scale masterpieces (in separate sections of course!). And that’s ok because it will be my collection and I couldn’t be more proud of it. Phew, longer post than planned but I thought I would share my “story”. Thanks for your work and happy collecting!
Excellent video, thanks so much for these seemingly simple and straightforward points but so difficult to put into practice! Really helps to hear them out loud.
I had to implement a one character rule and that has helped me focus my collection so much. One character per series I love, before that I had entire lines taking up half my place.
Yea ur right about above a person means. But like u said build up slowly like I did 33 years. Your right i do love to collect and its always been a investment for retirement especially for a public future museum.
This is amazing advice my friend. I love this stuff because it shows you truly care about others livelihood and let’s face it, when people watch you reviewers, they want to build quickly to get to that level, naturally and the hobby could become toxic or unhealthy. I actually did that and I wish I had this advice when I started. I do love payment plans but you still have to budget for those payments. Best thing to do is only buy statues you love if you’re limited in space and money. I agree with putting time into customizing your displays so you can even use that extra money for another statue. GREAT VIDEO Chris.
I think as a new collector it is best to buy already in stock statues until you have six statues...After that you can think about the PO of statues a year out...I have six big statues now and that was the number I became more calm and more selective on what I want for the future...Plus six big statues all in a row looks really great too
This video has been really helpful. I’m a new collector in terms of statues, only had my first premium format for a few months and looking to get a second and have been collecting hot toys for about a year. I only have 8 hot toys but I have released that I can sell 2 or 3 and be able to get the freeze premium format that I’ve always wanted since getting into sideshow pieces. I really want to just focus on DC sideshow premium format pieces but i would find it so hard to just get rid of the Star Wars stuff because I love them equally and Premium formats are 100% a step up from hot toys. It’s really tough when you like multiple stuff
You are amazing chris. I'm actually already maxed out already My limit is 3,000 a year but everything i got was must buy for me . But i really enjoy the content but I can tell how good of person you are and really appreciate the help 😊
From someone who is in a different phase a week, I’ve finally decided where my heart lies. And that’s movies. So movie pieces it is, but it is really difficult in statue collecting because most pieces are are so damn cool. Good thing the ridiculous prices and cost of shipping has been keeping me away. Thanks for the content!
I’m very much one of those collectors that if I buy one item in a line, I want all of them, and I’m not satisfied until that line is complete. With that in mind, if I’m late in the day in starting a line of statues, and it turns out there’s maybe 10-12 items in it, I put a LOT of thought in to whether I can realistically complete it. If I can’t, I’ll just not start it. I’ve missed out on a number or pieces because of this. It’s not the end of the world though, cause with statue collecting, there’s ALWAYS a newer, bigger, and better piece just about to come out. And then it’s easier to justify because I didn’t buy that other line!
The statue loses a lot of presence and value if not correctly displayed. I have all my statues in their boxes and NEVER had it displayed waiting for the day that I be able to create something unconventional as I don’t swallow the thought of having a 2k statue displayed on a 10$ shelf or table. The majority of collectors spend 95% on statue collecting with only 5% on display. What you said Chris is absolutely correct and I tend to agree with almost everything you said. I hope one day I send you a video of my collection once I manage to finish building my display 🙂
Awesome video, man! This is one thing a lot of youtube collectors do not do. In fact all these years I was starting to think I’m the only one that doesn’t have endless disposable income to buy these things. My collecting strategy has always been quite simple. Start from a foundation and expand out. Meaning start with the “meat and potatoes” such as Batman and Joker. Once I have a piece of them, I’ll go maybe Catwoman or Robin. Now I say “Ok! I have the main guys here, now I can start expanding the rogue’s gallery.” So I’ll start payment plans on characters such as scarecrow and mr. freeze. It really is SO much more fun and enjoyable to be organized and systematic with how you collect. I also have always had a love for collecting rare and expensive action figures which I’m sure you know can be just as much as a statue at times. I’m not a HUGE marvel fan but god dam does Marvel have the better action figures. And instead of having to buy every single marvel legend that ever existed, I limit myself to buying one maybe two rare figures a year.
Thanks Chris, this was really helpful for me as I’m new to collecting. I personally love your idea of Batman surrounded about his villains, I love him and his villains so your collection/setup is really cool!
I focused on 1/3rd DC pieces as the main part of my collection and I'm building what I call my 1/4th bombshell collection. My bombshell collection is any 1/4th statue of a female character from any universe that I like. I do have one piece which I still haven't received that doesn't fit into the collection and that is SS Ironman Mark VII marquette. I bought because it is just so damn good. My first slip up for my collection but won't be my last I'm sure. I was lucky when I first started this hobby. I accidentally without realizing it bought a bunch of DC characters so I went with the theme. Now that's my focus.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video Chris! Really cleared out a lot of worries and concerns that I had. As fun as a hobby this is it can be very overwhelming when you think about money, focus, space etc. and I think it's heathy and good to talk when things get tough
Thank you so much for this video. I was definitely the type of guy you mentioned in section 1 and was collecting everything!! I loved all your comments about focus.
Focus is what I've needed man. That's been the biggest help I've gotten from your channel, I feel like I can breathe again and I'm not stressed out anymore. I'm just sticking to Horror and Batman believe it or not Batman and his rogues looks Sick next to Hellraiser's Pinhead or Leatherface, you get the idea. Thanks Chris have a kick-ass week 🤘🦇🤘
Best advice I have gotten from a collector is not to get too attached to anything specific. If the value of a piece jumps up 2x the original retail price, this is the perfect opportunity to sell it off and buy 2 new pieces to expand your collection. Good advice, just hard to follow. I’m too attached to my collection.
I love variety so I ended up splitting my collection in sections and space I only can fit seven garage shelves in my space so I dedicate 4 shelves for marvel and 3 for DC keeps me focused on where I want my collection to be
Nice vid. It took me a couple of months to get to those same conclusions. I have the luck that I have the support of my amazing wife that also tells me should I go too enthusiastic with my passion. Your vids are always fun and educational. The problem that I have now is the lighting in my cabinet. Could you make a vid with a couple of tips? It would help me a lot.
Thank you for a video like this. Being new to this it is kind of hobby is scary. I dont want to be 10k deep and look at what I have gotten and be like WTF.
Great topic today Chris! 👍🏽 My collection started with a JL vs Avengers 1/10 line from Kotobukiya. Then I sold those and got into 1/6 scale Kotobukiya and Bowen Avengers vs X-Men theme, (which I still have). But now I’m into 1/4 scale XM and Sideshow pieces. I’m having my XM Thanos as the centerpiece. With a comic version theme of the Infinity Gauntlet storyline. So I have statues of Spidey, Wolverine, Cap, IM, Thor, and Hulk. Waiting for a cool Silver Surfer. Hoping XM comes out with one to “complete” my collection. 🤞🏽
Hey big guy this is sledgemaster watching ur show. I've been collection 33 years and I've collect several different subjects. I just buy a piece at a time and never get old and always fun and keeps me young over the years and just my weightlifting and powerlifting. But I believe I know what ur saying. I've collecting everything I can because I am planning on having a public collectors museum from old tin toys to stautes to different kinds of figures and transformers. But I know what u mean. Yea I understand financial.
Great tips, I think having a focus is a big 1. I live in a small apartment. So I can only get a few more statue’s till I run out of space. Trying to only preorder what I love. It’s hard tho, because there’s so many awesome statues out there. Gotta just appreciate the collection you have, and not compare yours to others.
sometimes i come back and watch this to get advice for focusing my collection so i can stop stressing and buying and selling stuff so i can afford new pieces. i really know i should focus on just superman but its hard since i like batman and daredevil so much lol.
Where was this list in august when I got started and went crazy like a dragon with hemorrhoids?!? 😂🤣😂 thanks again for always sharing your experiences!
Thanks for the info. I’m just starting with these. I decided 1/3 Batman and his villains 🦹♀️ collection. But I decided not to just go with one comic or the game. But to pic the best one that I like for each character and just put them all together. Except for Harley Quinn I might have like 3 or 4 of her when I’m done. 😂. Good video
Great advice man. My focus is alien/ xenomorphs mostly prime 1 and coolprops aliens. I really am a joker fan but I promised myself no movie pieces. Although I am dying to get the new queen studios Heath ledger joker.
Great video as always chris. Quick question will you be doing a review on the batman arkham city 1/5 from prime 1 studio. I've got it on pre order here in the UK but haven't seen any videos for it yet 👍.
Some great tips. I have the perfect plan but I am waiting on 3 pieces that aren't even coming until 2022. I am eyeing a 1/3 scale Hush piece to fill the space.
Awesome video Chris, you hit alot of points.... but seems like lately people try and use there collections as more or less of a pissing contest.. or bragging rights.. or at least thats the feel I get..
I feel like my focus has become creating a quarter scale collection of Batman Rogues and to make it kind of like a quarter scale “Sanity” setup. The 1:3 scale Batman Arkham Knight version acts as the centerpiece of it. I think if we finally get Two-Face, Penguin and Riddler, I’ll move my Robin over to where I have my quarter scale DC Trinity area. I spent a ton of time laying out the collection and how to display it. My display cost me as much as a single PF, but it was totally worth it. It went through several iterations. But in the end, I love how I have set it up.
Yeah, I do a spreadsheet aswell. Have you done a video on what its like to sell a statue? I have a 1/3 scale I thinking about selling and not sure how to go about it. Over in the UK, I dont think the statue market is as big as the States.
You probably have a easier time than the average collector swapping items out because of your resources .Do you have a rule of thumb how much you should budget for a loss percentage ?they should budget in when they do swap out another words are you going to lose money on an item and if so how much I’m sure not all statues go up in value the loan making up tax postage etc.
Don't get overwhelmed, it is not a fun feeling. For me it was to look inwards, which characters or items are the most compelling and enriching to collect. Having realism is key. See what you have as an accomplishment: it is a marathon not a sprint.
In seriousness this is a very relatable video. I've gone thru the same mental process in my collecting. And I also had to reach the place where I can appreciate other collectors videos and such because there has to be limits on my collection.
For me, the most important aspect of collecting is how one is going to display ones purchases. So many collectors spend a fortune on high end collectibles and shove It in a cabinet from Ikea, which is criminal. I would always go down the bespoke/custom display road, employ a shop fitting company or master carpenter, the display system must be as good as It can possibly be, more expensive but worth every penny in the long run. I used a shop fitting company to bring my design to life. I have been collecting for nearly 20 years and have never sold a piece nor will I, I do not collect 1/4, 1/3 or larger, my 'room' is a fair size so space is not an issue. Plus, the character roster is greater in smaller scale pieces. The only other thing I'd say to beginners is buy whatever you like as long as you can afford It, have the space to display It and enjoy It. Remember, ones own opinion is the only one that matters and don't fall into the 'fear of missing out' trap, give ones self time to make an informed decision, don't worry about the PO bandwagon, pieces crop up all of the time, keep things in perspective and you'll be a happy collector 8-)
Yep, i go the bespoke route also. Currently i have a woodworker working on display for a 38 inch custom Galactus and his heralds. It costs an arm and a leg though!!
@@namor6393 Holy hell that sounds like a mightily impressive piece! A bespoke display system certainly isn't the cheapest route but definitely the most effective. I'm the creative director for a high end interior design company and my wife is the architectural director so luckily I was able to use a trusted contractor. The design was based around 'Dieselpunk meets Art Deco museum' and was mostly constructed from glass and steel. The room is approximately 30 feet by 20 feet and has a sunken seating area in the middle. It's probably a tad extravagent considering I don't collect any of the large scale statues but It does look impressive and I got a fantastic deal!
Ahh I remember when my collection started in the closet, it should've stayed there jk lol I love it, I collect everything! Marvel, Star Wars, Video game and now DC whooops
Me and my wife are planning to buy our first house. Very excited, but kinda nervous if we can get a extra spare room or a solid basement. I do have a vision. Im going female heroes. Just finished paying my Alita Queen studios Bust and soon done with Wonder woman queen studios Bust. Also just Pre-ordered my fist Prime 1 studio wonder woman Jason fabok Hydra. All these pieces are big. They will take spaces 😅. My wife is all for it, but I think space is what im worried. Looking for different displays. Should i be worried? 😅😊
Yooooooooooooo the best plan is not having a plan!!! See what u like and get it !!! Money if u can’t afford it donthe payment plan or jus pass on it very simple !!!
This was a great video with awesome tips! I'm new to the statue collecting, just ordered my first one! Got the Joker from Prime 1 Studios :) Because I'm new I see older statue that look amazing but obviously not in stock anymore. How would I go about looking for these older statues and how would I know if it's being sold at a good price? I don't want to pay more than I should.
I just get characters that I love from marvel/DC etc and don’t feel like I have to get a whole line because theirs some characters in that line that I don’t care for and don’t want to get them just because their part of the set it probably doesn’t work for some but I like having a character I enjoy highlighted in my collection via a statue
I only collect Alien and Predator stuff. However, I appreciate other people’s different interests. And I like this channel, Batman is cool. You are as well. Hey, have you ever watched Sandy Collora’s short fan film; Batman Dead End? Batman fights both Aliens and Predators. Sandy Collora himself is making a limited 1/3 Batman mixed media figure: facebook.com/photo?fbid=2141449075985897&set=pob.100003624769284 Batman Dead End: ua-cam.com/video/3j7d3lIAkes/v-deo.html
Step 1 : sell car so I can afford new primeone statue . Step 2 : convert nursery into man cave. Step 3 : recover from the ass whipping my wife put on me after she found out I sold the car to buy prime one statue an converted the baby nursery into man cave.
dude I like your channel and your content but you are one of the last YTers I'd take any advice from :D your collecting philosophy and mine couldn't be further away! I believe you don't need to focus just don't buy whole lines buy the 1or 2 best statues from any lines you like! Don't buy too many from the same company! They are using the same factories, everything will have the same feel and vibe on your shelf that is boring for me! And yea plan ahead but the best plan is if you know that by the time your highly anticipated shit comes out, in 1-2 years your collection will look completely different so all your plans are fucked :D Be responsible, buy the stuff you like and don't be afraid to sell! But always be careful who you are selling to and where! Plus this is a hobby, like sports or video games or reading or anything! Not a lifestyle, no need to over think it like some do it here :D Oh yea and the most important! Everyone is talking about how expensive this hobby is! Bullshit! I have many hobbies and this is by far the best in terms of getting your money back! NONE of my other hobbies can I get 75-200% of the invested money back after I "used" the item for years. Yea the statues are expensive but who cares if you get your money back whenever you want it?!
Great points Chris. It's too easy to get caught up in what you don't have, and not take a moment to enjoy your own collection. It'll never be "done" so enjoy the process and what you do have 👍

My pleasure
COOL VIDEO CHRIS.👊🏽🤘🏽
🤘🤘🔥
Thanks Chris, this was really helpful for me as I’m new to collecting. I personally love your idea of Batman surrounded about his villains, I love him and his villains so your collection/setup is really cool!
Glad i could help
Thx for all the great advice
I focused on 1/3rd DC pieces as the main part of my collection and I'm building what I call my 1/4th bombshell collection. My bombshell collection is any 1/4th statue of a female character from any universe that I like. I do have one piece which I still haven't received that doesn't fit into the collection and that is SS Ironman Mark VII marquette. I bought because it is just so damn good. My first slip up for my collection but won't be my last I'm sure. I was lucky when I first started this hobby. I accidentally without realizing it bought a bunch of DC characters so I went with the theme. Now that's my focus.
Great advice Chris!!
Thanks
Thanks for taking the time to make this video Chris! Really cleared out a lot of worries and concerns that I had. As fun as a hobby this is it can be very overwhelming when you think about money, focus, space etc. and I think it's heathy and good to talk when things get tough
Absolutely!!
I like the beautiful poison ivy that in the background behind u. Ur video was great and professional. Good night to u and ur family god bless always
Thank you so much for this video. I was definitely the type of guy you mentioned in section 1 and was collecting everything!! I loved all your comments about focus.
Absolutely!
Same to you Billy!!
Great advice
I love variety so I ended up splitting my collection in sections and space I only can fit seven garage shelves in my space so I dedicate 4 shelves for marvel and 3 for DC keeps me focused on where I want my collection to be
Chris you're on fire to start 2021!!! ;)
Thanks man!!
Thank you really helped me out !!!
Glad to help!!
Great video Chris. Nice from you to show people that are new to collecting everything they have to know. You rock man!!🤟🔥🦇
Thanks so much Jon!!🤘🤘🔥
Wise words.
Thanks
I will work on one!
Thank you for a video like this.
Being new to this it is kind of hobby is scary. I dont want to be 10k deep and look at what I have gotten and be like WTF.
My pleasure
Great informative video thanks
Absolutely!
Great video thanks for sharing
Absolutely 💯
Thanks for this, Chris 😊 I exclusively collect Star Wars but subscribe to you to enjoy looking at your Batman collection
Wow that's awesome I really appreciate your support!!
Where was this list in august when I got started and went crazy like a dragon with hemorrhoids?!? 😂🤣😂 thanks again for always sharing your experiences!
Great video. Had to hit the ALL bell!!
Great video as always
Thanks Chris, sound advice, I have focused as well which has helped tremendously. 👍
My pleasure Ross
Great video.
Thanks Jason!
My pleasure
Great video as always chris. Quick question will you be doing a review on the batman arkham city 1/5 from prime 1 studio. I've got it on pre order here in the UK but haven't seen any videos for it yet 👍.
Some great tips. I have the perfect plan but I am waiting on 3 pieces that aren't even coming until 2022. I am eyeing a 1/3 scale Hush piece to fill the space.
Thanks for watching!
This is a great informative video.
Awesome video Chris, you hit alot of points.... but seems like lately people try and use there collections as more or less of a pissing contest.. or bragging rights.. or at least thats the feel I get..
There will always be some that do that, but remember the only collection that matters is yours and how it makes you feel!
Glad to hear you have a focus!!
The furniture to put the heavy figures where u buy them at thanks
Don't get overwhelmed, it is not a fun feeling. For me it was to look inwards, which characters or items are the most compelling and enriching to collect. Having realism is key. See what you have as an accomplishment: it is a marathon not a sprint.
It's not about the size... it's how you display it.
Mr. X would have a field day
In seriousness this is a very relatable video. I've gone thru the same mental process in my collecting. And I also had to reach the place where I can appreciate other collectors videos and such because there has to be limits on my collection.
Glad i could help!!
I wish I knew how to get one of ur t-shirts
Very well stated!
@@BatmanStatueCollector Thanks Chris, likewise with the advice in your video, excellent points, well made.
Space is always an issue and its a very addicting hobby but knowing that your wife is along for the ride makes it that much better!!
@@BatmanStatueCollector thank you for your support 🙏😊.
Knowing that Rosa Salazar and Gal gadot is coming soon at our home will be intresting😂😂😂
I try to stick with a few things but it ain't workin I collect a lot of things but I have to keep small because of my space!
Its hard to keep a focus
👍🏻👍🏻
Yooooooooooooo the best plan is not having a plan!!! See what u like and get it !!! Money if u can’t afford it donthe payment plan or jus pass on it very simple !!!
This was a great video with awesome tips! I'm new to the statue collecting, just ordered my first one! Got the Joker from Prime 1 Studios :) Because I'm new I see older statue that look amazing but obviously not in stock anymore. How would I go about looking for these older statues and how would I know if it's being sold at a good price? I don't want to pay more than I should.
I would check out the buy sell trade statue groups on Facebook!
I just mail my entire paycheck to Prime 1 Studios!!🤣🤣😣😣😣
Ha pretty much!!
I just get characters that I love from marvel/DC etc and don’t feel like I have to get a whole line because theirs some characters in that line that I don’t care for and don’t want to get them just because their part of the set it probably doesn’t work for some but I like having a character I enjoy highlighted in my collection via a statue
Appreciate you sharing your thoughts
I only collect Alien and Predator stuff. However, I appreciate other people’s different interests. And I like this channel, Batman is cool. You are as well. Hey, have you ever watched Sandy Collora’s short fan film; Batman Dead End? Batman fights both Aliens and Predators. Sandy Collora himself is making a limited 1/3 Batman mixed media figure:

I literally want every Marvel piece XM comes out with, gonna go bankrupt soon... #needtreatment
Step 1 : sell car so I can afford new primeone statue .
Step 2 : convert nursery into man cave.
Step 3 : recover from the ass whipping my wife put on me after she found out I sold the car to buy prime one statue an converted the baby nursery into man cave.
I like the way you think!!
Someone send Chris a iron man statue already 🥲
Yes please!!!🤣🤣🤣
Plan to move to a bigger house 😆
No kidd
I got a second job to buy statues 😂😂
dude I like your channel and your content but you are one of the last YTers I'd take any advice from :D your collecting philosophy and mine couldn't be further away!
Appreciate your thoughts
Very happy 😍💋 💝💖♥️❤️
Me toooo
