Big deal! Maybe some teams were in a slump when they played the Yanks. Also there's countless examples of teams losing the season series, then winning the series in the playoffs. Have you not watched the playoffs the past few years? The results of the regular season series between teams means less than nothing when it comes to the playoffs.

I’m sure one of you fine folks can help me. I don’t understand how a playoff berth is clinched for the Dodgers.
Magic numbers must add up to 163. So Milwaukee has 88 wins. Cubs have 75 losses. 88 + 75 = 163. Boom!
Playoff berth means (in my mind) the fourth place wild card team (in other words - the one who is out) must be at 163.
Dodgers have 91 wins. That means the opponent must have 72 losses to add up to 163. Right now Braves are that team that is on the outside looking in. They have 70 losses.
91+ 70 = 161.
Dodgers have 9 games left. Braves have 9 games left. If the Dodgers loss 9 and the Braves won 9, their final records would be Braves 92-70 and Dodgers 91-71.
I know that won’t happen. But still doesn’t seem like a playoff berth.
And the Phillies have 91 wins. So shouldn’t they have a playoff berth?
What am I misunderstanding? Help me please.

Do they really? Austin Wells has a .822 OPS in the 2nd half. Gleyber Torres is hitting .286 with a .770 OPS in the 2nd half. Jazz is hitting .281 with a .835 OPS since coming to the Yankees. Stanton historically has mashed in October. It’s not really a 2 man lineup anymore with how the other guys have been hitting of late.
