So back in 85 they didnt have the fancy area to fish. The port was a port for the AMC Plant. It was all industrial on the south side. The banks were all rocks except for the pier behind the Holiday Inn. I see thats some other hotel now. You parked behind the hotel and walked over to the inlet. The south west corner had the action if you wanted to climb down a lot of cement rocks. The inlet was fun on the pier boys would chum the water with corn to get the females to sell the eggs to the bait shop up the street. They have us 3 big fish one day. Huge like you caught. Smoked back in Rockford IL at Pinnions meat market. Dad has passed , but him driving semi car hauler found the spot. I drove inthe middle of the night to meet up with him 80 miles. No cellphones, little heat in the old van. Loved fishing there only charters had a small marine behind the hotel. Fished with 8lb , openface , small ugly stick . Fish on was the yell and 45 min struggle. Good days.

You are actually the one who inspired me to go out salmon fishing alone with my friend connor, before i just fished for musky pike and bass, but salmon fishing is a whole different style and level💪👑 i cant wait to go for steelhead this winter, maybe even run into u in sauk creek🤷♂️
Ahaha I feel you I think im obsessed with trout and salmon. Such cool fish, such a different style. Love seeing topwaters get crushed but seeing a bobber go down on big trout is just dope asf. Everyone can catch bass w senkos but not everyone can brave the cold to catch a massive steelie

What line are you using? Went the other day and had tons of “luck” I guess you could say using little cleos but I just can’t keep em on before they break me off
I've seen guys land em on lighter line (in and around 10 lb test) but they play em with the drag. I personally haven't been out much for salmon this year but I've landed big trout-eater pike on 10 lb fluoro by just taking my time with loose drag
I use 12 lb test and as long as u play them the right way you should be fine. I’ve seen people go all the way up to 20lb fluoro and get em.
