- In this video I take you through the starting point of my dream garage build here in the UK.
Its roughly 45 square meters, and still has a way to go, but I aim to make it the best I can within a reasonable budget.

Thoughtful build and thanks for explaining the process. Excited for future garage updates
Thanks for watching and commenting Rod. More updates to come in due course.
Worth considering putting a double socket in the middle of the ceiling. It can be useful occasionally for power without running a tripwire extension lead across the floor
Good tip! I was actually planning one of the wall / ceiling mounted retractable extension leads, to avoid going across the floor just like you suggest.
Very interesting Dale, you know how to make someone very jealous!!! I am not really a DIY man myself. I would definitely have the plumbing for hot water and a small sink maybe. With the cost of PV panels plummeting I would be tempted to have some on the back roof, not in roof. Apparently in the UK North can produce as much as 60% of a south facing array. I am still planning a NW array. In winter it helps with base load. Really looking forward to seeing what you plan for your cave. Will be following the build with great interest. Nigel
Thanks for watching and commenting Nigel.
I did look at putting panels on the North side of the roof, but the cost trade off didn't make sense, so decided to get an extra battery instead.
I do plan to do a East / West install on another part of the house myself at some point in the future when I have some more free time.
Thought you would have considered North but having the option of East / West is great and also extra storage is a good plan
It's been really interesting following along on this build. Once completed it should be great, nice work taking into account power and data requirements. Having retrofitted my own garage, it would have been so much easier to have done it during the initial retrofit.
Yeah, I have probably missed some things, but think I have most bases covered.
Looks good, looking forward to the rest of the series…
I recently converted garage to gym etc.
Thanks for watching and your continued support Mark.
Part of the old car port that I am converting into rooms I plan to make into a gym area. Any tips from your recent conversion?
@@SpectrumGeeks The portion we converted into a gym was for my wife's cardio / bike / yoga...
Hanging full wall mirrors was a bit of a challenge, making sure the mirror backing was suitable for the glue!!!
One of the most important things we found was ensuring we kept a the plan for the stud wall to know where the studs were for hanging TVs etc. in the future...
@@mark_just_mark Great tip on the stud plan. I assume you battened and plasterboarded then, vs dot and dab?
@@SpectrumGeeks Correct, we actually took out the up and over electric doors and installed new 'open out' doors. We then left an 1-2ft gap gap behind the doors for shelving, accessible via the new doors, then created a stud wall behind to create separation between the new room and outside.
We also used this new "gap" to locate our solar inverter...
@@mark_just_mark Nice. Also planning to batten vs dot and dab. Its more work I think, but gives better options both now and in the future cable runs, attacking stuff to the wall etc.
