- Richard Holden the Tory Party Chair appeared on Newsnight and it didn't go well. He was asked about why anyone should trust his party after pledge after pledge to bring down immigration has been broken. He tried to blame the EU, but there was a problem with that.

Tory MP, Labour MP, LibDem MP and....... Tim Montgomerie of Conservative Home website, Tory Adviser and now on the payroll of another mysteriously funded rightwing think tank (who was also on the panel of BBC's Any Questions the week before).
Plus obviously the Tory shill presenter.
Where is the balance when we are now in a run-up to a General Election ?

Victoria is head and shoulders above all other interviewers across the whole of the UK media. When she temporarily replaced Kuennsberg on the Sunday show it was completely transformed for the better.

Very telling that on QT last night when Fiona Bruce asked the audience what their concerns were for the election, not one person mentioned immigration. Its not a major issue by the public on average. The fact that the government has promised so many times and failed to deliver on something the public isnt interested in is the issue. So busy failing on this they cant address the issues the public are interested in.

Plus, when you think about it, immigration isn’t an issue IF your government invests in public services and infrastructure. If that is done, the entire argument (which is a childish and asinine one anyway) about “pressure on housing and services” goes away entirely because it’s being grown, which also has the side effect of boosting the economy due to job creation and greater connectivity.
Stopping immigration is a solution to a manufactured problem, and it’s not even a solution to that because the problem will still be there after you become a hermit kingdom.
Conservative politics is illiterate on all levels.

If they want to bring down the number of student visas perhaps they should fund universities so that they aren't relying on foreign students for money.
Foreign students are a cash cow and they know it. They also know that reducing foreign student numbers is a stupid way to fulfill a manifesto pledge. So now they are stuck in the hard place of making a dogmatic pointless gesture or continuing with the jackpot payout of foreign students.
And that should serve which purpose? Get the international rating of the universities down?
😂 I just found the research briefing paper on higher education on the British govt website published Nov 2023.
Their own strategy:
"increase the total number of international students choosing to study in the UK higher education system (in universities, further education colleges and alternative providers) each year to 600,000 by 2030
The latter ambition was met for the first time in 2020/21, with 605,130 international higher education students studying in the UK."
What they say to the public and what they plan appear to be completely contradictory..as if anyone is going to be massively surprised by this. Just another example of how they have no clue what the hell they're doing.

It must be incredibly frustrating at the moment to be a U.K. citizen when you look at the the sheer incompetence and corruption that is the Conservative Party, that has been in government for the last 14 years. Then you look across the House of Commons and you see the main political opposition, The Labour Party, which is equally incompetent.
So who do the U.K. population vote for? They can’t vote for either of these main groups. That just leaves their Liberal Democratic Party and lots of independent candidates. Maybe that’s the best way they can vote in July.

When will she be sacked or pushed out in order to maintain BBC's standard of impartiality as defined by Kuenssberg? The immigration thing is very interesting. People who are passionate about it tend to be ideological purists who do not care about implementation and practicality, as evidenced by Brexit. It is futile to argue with them from an apparent point of view of reality, i.e. voting Reform is voting for Labour resulting in an open border (which is not the whole reality anyway). The Tories are completely lost on this subject which they brought on in the first place in order to commit suicide, the success of which seem now inevitable.
I would pay good money to watch Victoria conduct a live interview with Sunak.
