Great videos, thanks, just passed my CBT today at 40 years old and bike ordered today 12 month old suzuki gsx-s125 with 2500 miles on it, can't wait to build my experience and go for my full test in 12 months or so. Just hope the bikes not been abused, it all looked good with service history 🤞🤞

After I did my CBT I was amazed at just how awesome it is riding, the I was the only one doing the geared bike and at the first start I thought I wasn't gonna be able to do it because I wobbled too much but I soon caught on and my instructor said when I was failing he would of had me on a moped by now so that really boosted my confidence massively. We went onto the road and I struggled but I managed and I am extremely looking forward to buying a bike, I have the CBT but no funds haha...... :( I hugely promote the CBT to everyone I know who can benefit from it because riding is soo good

Same here. I'm in my 30's and couldn't afford the full licence and the bike. So i went for my cbt and a 125 for a bit. Thank god I did because there's a lot more involved in riding for a noob like me than you'd expect from car driving all these years. I'll get my full licence when it's dry next year and upgrade. Good luck I hope you pick up a bike soon.
I'm amazed how fun my little venom is around the city. I've done over 150 miles on it in the last week just fun riding in the sun.

I just started riding a motorcycle, without any kind of training our help, just basic knowledge of the works...bought a Benelli 125cc Leoncino 2 weeks ago, got the handle of it in 30min, ofc I stalled a lot of times at the first couple of rides but nothing that worrying...Just have to pay attention to your surroundings and maintaining balance and clutch stability.
Can't compare the feeling of driving a car to the one of riding a motorcycle, just amazing.

About 6 months ago I tore my achilles tendon in my left foot and was unable to ride my bike, or drive my car. I bought a Vespa 200cc scooter to get me around as they're twist and go and you don't need to use either foot to do anything. It served its purpose and I enjoyed riding it .Sold it now but still miss it. Very practical things - scooters - mine could hold at least 3 bags of shopping ( 4 if you strapped one to the back seat )

I agree. I loved my 2 scooters (one of them being a 650 burgman} they make more sense than than motorbikes in many ways. I'd like to doore scooter stuff. I guess for me the overrun on the CVT system gets a little annoying but I can live with it. I'll have a scooter again one day. The 300 forza looks good.

Once you are above 19 you can go on training, pass your A2 ("A" test if over 24 ), get your licence and never have had been on a 125 apart from the CBT.
I learnt a lot during the 1600 miles I did on my Honda CB125R. If I hadn't owned a 125 before taking my test, I would never have ridden that much with a riding school and I don't think I would have been ready for A2's 47 BHP or my "A" class bike's 96 BHP.
I think all learners need a good 6 months and 1000 or so miles on a learner bike before taking their test.
30 to 40MPH urban roads are fine on 125s, it's the 60 and 70MPH roads on which they are crap, and as you say going up hills. I found my CB125R couldn't do 70MPH (it did an "optimistic" 68MPH on the speedo), but then it only had 13 BHP (not the max of 14.7 BHP). I'm a 95Kg middle aged old fart who didn't want to lean down on to the tank, and the CB125R is a "naked" bike. Maybe a fairing and a lighter rider who leant down would have made it a bit faster.
My CB125R did something 110 to 120 MPG. It was something like 300 miles between fill ups. Now I'm down to 120-ish miles between fill ups on my big bike. This is tedious.
The road tax (VED) gets me on 125s. 125s can have less emissions than cars that qualify for free road tax. This is "bikist"! If it's free for the cars, it should be free for low emission 125s.
I do think semi sensible middle aged old farts like me should be allowed a bit more power when learning. A 20 BHP 250cc bike would have been ideal, and should have been usable on dual carriage ways.
Although if you're a rich learner you can always get the electric Zero S "A1" bike that due to the way the law is written on measuring power output over 30 mins is learner legal :
    www.motorcyclenews.com/news/first-rides-tests/zero-s-electric-motorbike-review/
I've read varying reports that it can have a peak of 30 or even 59 BHP, but averages out to 14.7 BHP over a 30 minute period. This is insane for a "learner" bike. It apparently has a top speed of 90 MPH.
I shouldn't have sold my CB125R. It would have been ideal for leaving down the station. It was also a lot easier to push it around. I miss it :(

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  4 роки тому +1

Yeap alot to be said for smaller bikes around the city and leaving at the station.
I agree also that old farts like you and me should be able to train on bigger bikes etc. But it kinda works as it is I think. ER

What bugs me with 125ccs geared bikes is ill be going on 3rd gear approaching a corner and It's hard to switch up n down in such a short time so I end up just redlining alot in 3rd because I cba to switch to 4th just for that extra 5-10mph. I do know how to revmatch but I find the gear shifter is akward on my wr125x so it's not very versatile. 125cc scooters are much better in that respects I struggle to keep up with them in urban areas

If in doubt then perhaps a maxi scooter like the forza 300 (check out my review on that) or if you like the motorbike look then the cb500f or 500CBR is a very good choice.
